School Confiscates Cupcakes Decorated with Toy Soldiers

I already wanted to ask on my own, if this is some kind of habbit or custom, because I dont understand too, why you put a piece of plastic on a cake. Dont you have sugar pieces in different colours or something eatable to decorate your food? Dont know, never heard of that custom, so for foreigners it really seems weird to put something not eatable as decoration on a cake. So normally you put fruits on it, or a sugar or chocolatecream or whatever that makes sense on a cake.

So I dont want to question it, if its some sort of habbit, but for foreigners putting a plastic stuff on a cake seems as weird as if you would decorate a cake with iron marbles.

^^^^^On wedding cakes the bride and groom figure is not eatable as far as I know.
I got lots of birthday cakes as a kid that had small toys on them.Plastic horses,fences,little trees.And candles of course.
I have put flowers on cakes as decoration.Not to be eaten.
There is also a Mardi Gras King Cake that has a baby figurine in it
But most cakes are decorated with edible stuff.Frosting roses,sprinkles,chocolate shavings,fruit,candy,etc.......

Yes, it is kind of unusual to put things like that on cupcakes. I've seen birthday cakes decorated in a similar fashion but not cupcakes. Still, though, if anything it's imaginative (I guess) and certainly nothing for any school administrators to get their panties in a knot over or even notice.

So it is not custom to eat them, but normally they are made of marzipan, so you could eat them as well as the other stuff on the wedding cake. :)

I don't know.
The plastic "army men" are not edible but look more aggressive which is desirable.
The marzipan ones look too much like Elmer Fudd.

And typically, when you can't come up with a cogent argument, you rely on reductio.

It's not my place to decide what the grounds are for cupcake confiscation. I'm not the teacher in the classroom, I'm not the principal in the school.

Anyway, I think that a more appropriate and wholesome birthday treat would be for each child to receive a bowl of steamed broccolli. We need to promote good health and eating, and not obesity.

And, instead of toys that glorify gun violence, maybe they could pass out some of these

Well, it depends on the school, doesn't it?

If we are dealing with a public school, then I would not question the teacher's decision, rather I would question the school board's policy around what it does and does not condone, and I would take the matter up at that level. And if, in fact, no such policy existed, then the principal or superintendant concerned is perfectly capable of enforcing policy on wayward teachers.

On the other hand, if we are dealing with a confessional school, there where is it my place to question what the church running the school does and does not condone? I'm not a parent; if I were a parent I wouldn't put my child in such a school.

It would look like over-reaction to anyone with two brain cells to rub together.
The only rational grounds for confiscation of cupcakes would be suspicion of then being poisoned or something else worthy of actual concern.
