Marching in formation and goose stepping appears intimidating, I don't believe it has any applicable use. They're not going to march across an ocean. Manpower is no longer particularly relevant in modern war. The PLA's main strategy were essentially human wave attacks, do you think will still work in modern warfare?

While the US struggles with asymmetric warfare, it is light years ahead of the rest of the world as far as conventional power. Iraq had a battle tested million man army and was completely obliterated by US-led coalition forces in less than 3 weeks with minimal casualties.

Nobody comes close.

The point is China isn't Iraq, and they are nowhere near as far behind as you proclaim. They have a decent navy and increasingly are capable of holding ground in aerial combat. Also added to that they have a large nuclear arsenal to rival the USA and Russia.

For those still afraid of China, they lost a conventional war with Vietnam in 1979, they were so incompetent that they actually resorted to the same human wave attacks that they employed during the Korean War almost 30 years prior. To give that perspective, the US won literally every battle against the Vietcong and VPA in that 16 year war. While China may have modernized their military since that time but lets not make a mountain out of a mole hill.

I think it would be sort of neat if China started building clean-energy vehicles with all those skematics they stole from our energy czars computers.
They could turn over a new leaf for the world and tell the greed-mongers off at the same time.

Um, there is a Chinese saying that can be loosely translated as "A newly appointed official lights bonfires everywhere." It implies that people are eager to perform all sorts of stunts to show off how powerful they are as soon as they acquire power. I assume that since Xi Jinping is currently China's new head honcho, he might get too carried away depicting China as an up-and-coming superpower hell-bent on ruling the whole wide world. However, the truth is that Chinese politicians such as Xi Jinping already have a hard time trying to solve China's own problems. I assume that they have neither the time nor the resources to truly threaten any other country.

Really, I don't see the paranoia in thinking that China is planning an attack of any kind. But if that is what helps keep you up at night, go ahead and think the USA's best business partner has valid motive to launch a suicidal attack.

At worst, I think they're just rattling their sabers.

I'd be more worried about them competing a la Walmart, crushing us with cheap superior products in markets we haven't absolutely lost to everyone else.

I would agree with 0ET. ontop of all this we should be worried about Chinas obvious raping of other countries recources. namely Africas
Poor Africa just cant catch a break, I tell you.

Also. I'm shure a numerous amount of hackers are born there. A country like The USA and England who play by the "Rules" cannot compete with a country like China who does not.
