And women still have equal rights under the law, so I still fail to see a problem.

That's what equality is about.

That's utterly ridiculous. If the law was the only thing there is, then you'd be right, but it isn't. There are thousands of structures other than legal ones.

Every time you say that ridiculous thing, someone corrects you and you admit that you are wrong, but then you say it again next time. Next time you wade into a discussion about discrimination, think "it is possible for groups or individuals other than the legal system to be discriminatory, and it is perfectly legitimate for people to try and change that".

I've never admitted that it's wrong. You must be confusing me for someone else.

Yes, there's thousands of public and private structures -- they're private (public, government run ones are run by the law). No Homers Clubs. I can be banned from this place for breaking the rules -- that's perfectly fair. I can make my own club with my own rules. As can you.

So, what's ridiculous about that?

So if, for example, Microsoft paid women less than men, that would be OK? In fact, it would be equality?

As long as the man or woman does the same work, with factors regarding their physical differences, education, age, and other stuff I'm forgetting taken into account (other than the man = gets more because he's got a family to feed -- that era is long gone now), then they should be paid equally for the exact same job.

This goes for pink, black and yellow skin pigmentation, and sexual preferences, too.

Now, hiring equality.... I don't know about that, as I think everyone should be able to say who they let into their club.

(Incidentally, where I live, the wage for the same job is pretty close to the same from all I've read; there's usually reasons for if it's not the same.)

Right. And if there is this "non-legal inequality", people are justified in saying "hold on, this is unfair, we're going to boycott you until you offer fair pay and fair hiring"?

Of course.

Though I'd put wage inequality in with all the other laws regarding commerce (government and economy are intertwined), which would mean also yeah, you could have a good reason for hiring equality, but as with everything, there's that balance of too much and too little and the happy medium for most.

In other areas, women seem to be treated equally too. Though they should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military--that's one I forgot, and they aren't allowed here.

I'm certain women can own and do everything men can in the private areas of life (unless Muslim, but you can say that's a choice), and they also have equal say and entitlements if there's a divorce.

The combat soldier one is a biggie, yeah.

Wait, I don't think they're allowed abortions here. Prostitution is legal though. The former appears to be a contentious issue as there's the potential male side, in addition to murky moral arguments. The latter makes sense.
