I agree with that; however, personally speaking I couldn't associate such positive thoughts with a god, because such a god would be a figment of my own imagination. I might just as well pray to pink unicorns.

You sound very egocentric. Do you have Aspergers?

God is a figment of imagination that exists to guide humanity.
What does unicorns do, eat grass?

It is a critical point in Islam that God is unique and that noone is like him and that he is perfect in no need and everyone needs him.

Neither gods nor unicorns exist. I see no point in praying to imaginary beings whether you call them gods or unicorns.

Some people love unicorns and the unicorns might help them be stronger. You cannot discount one person's unicorn.

When I used to go to the retreat center one of the meditations is to visualize yourself as one of the deities(the deities are not "real"but symbolic),so asked a monk if the deity is me,isn't that like praying to yourself? He said yes.
So when I pray,I just ask that others have a nice bed, like me,that they have food and clothes, etc.I don't ask for anything for myself, except that I be a better person.

I'm not saying this to insult Christians - believe me, I was one of you for a loooooong time. But do you never think it might be possible that if there is a god, he's really cool and not like your typical insecure bullying boss, which is what the Judeo/Christian God is like? Maybe the god doesn't need everyone to be on their knees and pandering to him all the time and thanking him for stuff he may or may not have had anything to do with. Maybe this god, if it exists appreciates people who look at the world around them and see what IS without being mired in a book that was written so long ago. Don't get me wrong, I love the Bible as literature and as a history of humanity and even as inspiration, but still there's a whole big beautiful world out there. Maybe if this God exists it actually appreciates people who look around at what it created and see how things work and have enough spunk to wonder if it does exist - it's not hiding itself for nothing, if it does exist. Just saying.

I liked what dr. eben alexander said about god in his book, "proof of heaven."

that you are loved and cherished. that you have nothing to fear. there is nothing you can do wrong. no matter what you do, as long as you honor the golden rule, you are doing what you are supposed to be doing.

That's pretty inclusive. But doesn't everyone always think they're following the golden rule?

some who say they follow the golden rule are really following the iron rule- "I don't do onto you what I don't want you to do onto me, in general*."

*unless I think it is a safe bet that I can get away with it.

I would call that the rusted iron rule.

God isn't so much about people and how they interact with each other. God is about your psyche and how you deal with your life, your inner self. It's got nothing to do with others. It's very personal, between you and God. No one else. No one has any business sticking their nose in between you and your God. It's that one sacred relationship humans can never spoil that's what's so extraordinary otherwise go be with people. God relationships are pure and untainted and can take you to that sacred place, In fact, they are sacred.

People will react to how you treat them, you can learn from that, You do not need God to tell you what you can experience and observe.

I speak from my heart..that is all..

Some people understand it completely and some don't ...but of course my posts are not difficult for me to read at all..The metaphors make complete sense to me...

But I do not expect anyone else to understand them..as that is dependent on an individual's experience of life and perception..which can vary..very much between any two human beings...

I think if God exists, I can imagine it saying,

'STFU human. Get through that job application/asking someone out/exam/surgical operation yourself. I've got important deity s**t to do. Besides, I already gave you the tools to do this stuff yourself, loser. We normally hate each other anyway, what makes you come to me just because you need something?'

Me: 'Okay, fuckface - you Supreme Fascist. I'll do this s**t myself and feel proud even if I fail. w*ker. Go and not prevent another supervirus. You're more incompetent than a blind film-maker, or even more useless than the Department of Social Security.'

I heard about that book before it was published (and before the title was announced) and was rather looking forward to reading it... until I looked at his website and followed some of the links. It linked to a website showing evidence for the existence of fairies. No, it wasn't April 1st. No, seriously - FAIRIES!! ! 8O I rest my case.

I can't find that link any more - perhaps he's removed it (wisely) - but there's no need to. The title of the book alone is quite enough to prove that he is not a scientist.

Yup, when I'm losing perspective, or hesitating to do something that needs to be done, it always helps for me to have a quick "conversation" with God.

It's basically just a conversation with myself, but with the added bonus that it feels like I am receiving "orders from above". This is useful, because it makes the situation seem much simpler to deal with. I just have to follow God's instructions, there's no need to overthink it and get stuck!

That's the kind of stuff humans say to other humans tbh that's' why I prefer talking to my personal God. He always listens, never judges, and I can gain valuable insight and flashes of intuition.
