Wikipedia provided the following:

Aria is the name of a region in the eastern part of the Achaemenid Empire, several times confused with Arianē in the classical sources.

Aria was an Old Persian satrapy, which enclosed chiefly the valley of the Hari River ... The region of Aria was separated by mountain ranges from the Paropamisadae in the east, Parthia in the west and Margiana and Hyrcania in the north, while a desert separated it from Carmania and Drangiana in the south. It is described in a very detailed manner by Ptolemy and Strabo and corresponds, according to that, almost to the Herat Province of today's Afghanistan.

Herat is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the western part of the country ... Its primary city and administrative capital is also named Herat. The province of Herat is divided into about 17 districts and contains over 1,000 villages. It has a population of about 1,762,157 which is multi-ethnic and largely a rural society ... Herat province shares borders with Iran and Turkmenistan, making it one of the important provinces of Afghanistan.

High School teacher tells Freshman that he can't wear a Santa costume: "Don’t you know Santa Clause is white? Why are you wearing that?”

where in any of my did i use the term aryan, nowhere.i said the myth of santa claus was inspired by true events in Finland.
like you i said the proto indo euro's came from in and aroud the caucasus montains of central asia, south eastern europe and that Iranians are likely the original europeans.i spoke nothing of aryans.

as far as i know the aryan notion is myth.when the goth's in the middle ages wanted to try out mono theism they had a problem.they hated romans, byzintines and catholic and eastern orthodoxed churches.

so to piss off rome and greeces the germanic goth's followed rogue libyian theologian Areies who was considered a heretic by constantine.so gothic barbaians became arian christians.
then the pope started caling anyone with blue eyes and blond hair an arian because many germanic peoples followed libyan theologian Aries.

that is where the term came from as best i know.there is no aryan race accept a very thin bloodline in lybya.read my post before you respond to them

I dont know about this Finnish folklore character. He might have fleshed out the santa clause myth after St. Nick's time. But the original "Saint Nicholas" was an Ionian Greek from the coast of anatolia in the Fifth Centurey AD. He even attended the conference in which they hammered out the Nicene Creed no less. He was known for giving anonymous gifts- like coins in shoes left out for him (though I dont know if that was at xmas time or not) hense the association with gift giving.

The Barbarians were out for plunder. They were not anti-roman ideologues. But the heretical non-trinitarian form of Christianity named after the North African Bishop Orian did indeed catch on with the Northern Barbarians for some reason. It was called "Arian Christianity"- which is indeed confusing to us modern readers of ancient history . But the term had no connection with the "Aryan Race" thing.

THAT word "Aryan" came from the name Iranians called their ancient ancestors (even the words Aryan, and Iranian, have a family resemblence). In the nineteenth centurey European scholars noticed the curious resemblence between Iranian, and North Indian languages on one hand- and most European languages(on the other), and an ancestrial "Aryan Race" was postulated that spoke the proto Indo european language and spread it around by conquest and migrations to both east and west. This race was envisioned as being fair colored warriors. And this notion then got woven into the Nazi ideologies of race. So "Aryan" meaning "ancient Iranian" came to be equated with "Nordic" in the 20 centurey.

Thank you for sparing me having to go into further explanation. 8)

Mamselle was correct that race is a social construct. On the genetic level, the case is a little more complex, but the facts still don't hold any utility for people who want to promote racist stereotypes based on genetics. Genetic screening finds more differences within cultures than between them.

Socially, people attach a great deal of importance to basic, obvious factors like skin color, hair color and texture, and common features like the shape of eyes and noses. People notice patterns of that kind very quickly. There's a clear evolutionary advantage in doing so, and genes do determine those physical features.

The error comes from claiming that genetics determine people's abilities, tendencies, or even capacity for good or evil, which people do, or have a tendency to do, when they start talking about race. The science simply does not support any of that. Again, genetic screening finds more differences within cultures than between them. Every culture produces individuals with every level of ability, intellect, and of every emotional type. Upbringing and environment determine which personalities and skills become more prevalent in the group.

I agree with everything you say. I just thought the claim that skin colour does not have a genetic basis was completely absurd.

saint nicholos lived in anatolia in the byzintine empire of the fourth century.he gave gifts and money to poor children mainly women so they would not need to become prostitutes.his life definatley inspired later portrayls of santa claus.dutch folklore had an infuence on the evolution of st.nick and so did henry the 8ths father christmas.

the sled drawn by rein deer did not come untill the joulutuki myth came in finish lapland in the 19th century.santa claus has an official mail box in a small finish town north of the arctic O.

Im sure i will get a very condecending response from someone but such is with this stupid website

Skin color is definately decided by genes. But what race a person is seems to morph quite a lot over time and culture since it is such a malleable construct. I love Tiger Wood's self-made category Cablinasian. That really showed what a malleable construct it is. And within this thread we can't all agree what "white" means.

The evolution didnt end there.

I guess Lapland makes sense in Europe. But Americans have to place him at the North Pole.

The Finns gave St. Nick the sled, and the reindeer, but it was the anonymously penned 1823 poem "the Night Before Christmas" that standardized the American vision of st. nick as (1) arriving on Xmas eve, rather than Xmas day, and (2) landing on the roof.

Before that americans had widely varied ideas about how st. nick did things depending upon their immigrant background etc.

But the interesting thing is that Santa's sled was pulled by TINY reindeer.

Santa Clause was an ELF- which are tiny creatures that hide in folliage. Though his dimensions arent specified in the poem- but he seems to have been a little eight inch tall dude who could easily fit down any house chimney even with his paunch- and the reindeer were probably squirrel sized. Wished I had known that when I was little-it wouldve saved me alot mental anquish when I stared up the fireplace flu this time of year wondering about the logistics.

Though how the canonized Aegean man morphed into an elf I couldnt tell you. But moving on: his elf status was quickly forgetten- when Thomas Nast drew him as a jolly fat man- and then Coke put him in garish red around 1900, and the Turkish saint morphed from elf back to full sized human again- which either makes more sense- or less sense ( more because he started out human, but less because now he needs a magic chimney stretcher to enter houses).

True. Everyone forgets how recently Irish and Italian people became "white."

In part. But even before Nordics arrived off the eastern steppe, there had been physically large, brachycephalic Cro Magnon descended hunter gatherers who had been in Ice Age Europe long enough to probably lose melanin and turn what we'd today call "white."
