Former cop kills man in a Florida cinema over texting
I doubt anyone wants murderers carrying weapons.
The NRA has called for armed guards in every school in the United States. Who better to do the jobs then retired cops? They have firearms training. They have law enforcement experience. They are the perfect person for the job. Until some little kid challenges the old kooks authority and throws an eraser at him. Then the old kook snaps and responds by shooting the kid.
I must have missed that NRA meeting (insert sarcasm).
I hope you are being sarcastic, because it was widely reported everywhere.
The "(insert sarcasm)" thingy should have been a giveaway. Actually, I don't follow everything the NRA does. I am a member, though.
We carry where we go and see no particular need to take our guns back to our cars just because we're going into a theater.
Yeah, whatever, and if the guy in the next row happens to pull out is cell phone and begins texting during the movie, you will have your gun ready to shoot him, if you so choose.
Let's see, we have one (1) report of that happening one time in one theater and we don't even have all the details. Somehow, though, you probably think this is going to be an epidemic. Never mind all the theaters in all the cities and states and all the people that carry a piece on them.

There was a case here a while ago of a person who was arrested for brandishing a firearm because he got into a verbal argument with a security guard for a state-run ferry service who wouldn't allow him to board with his firearm and pointed a finger at the guy. It was a total BS charge and eventually got thrown out, but something the judge said stuck with me. Paraphrasing, he basically said that carrying a firearm doesn't suddenly mean you're not allowed to get in an argument.
There's not enough detail in the story to make any kind of real determination about whether this was a good shoot or not - chiefly we don't know what the other man did or said prior to the man drawing his weapon and firing. But getting into an argument with someone who is using their phone during a movie isn't necessarily a bad thing to do - and if the other person flipped out and started acting violent then…well, yeah.
Point is we don't know, so I'm gonna reserve judgement.
