Those are much smaller countries with much more homogenous populations who are not world powers, and we don't really know if they'd prefer US style personal responsibility as they've never tried it.

Personal responsibility? Like you I live among Americans everyday, and I don't see much in the way of responsibility - and I admit that might as well include me.

sonofghandi you're right; the NRA is a terrorist organisation! They not only give weekly hands-on classes at their Fairfax HQ but also sponsored them them at local shooting ranges across the USA. Also web based learning and lectures via webinar almost daily.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Improvised explosives and IED's. What you need to know
- Tips on going postal while ensuring maximum body count
- So you want to be a unabomber? Lessons learned from Ted Kaczynski
- How ZOG is a threat to the American way of life and what YOU can do
- Attacks against soft targets and how to identify them
- Black helicopters; a prelude to The New Order
- How to mock and and belittle anti-gun gun owners
And may many more. :D

Yes, the NRA will end civilisation as we know it. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies, rivers and seas boiling, forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! 8O
Of course, nothing can be done about it because of all the money donated by huge, exploitive, and greedy corporations in addition the protection of corrupt republican politicians.

So I post links and quotes from the links and all of a sudden I'm accusing you of terrorism. All I was doing was providing a few links to demonstrate that there is a movement of gun owners out there that thinks the NRA goes too far, which you had expressed skepticism about.

Hey, if you can't bring anything of value to a debate then switch to personal attacks and/or accusations.

I have never accused you of racism in a gun thread. I have accused you of thinly veiled hate speech more than once, but it is usually in response to your comments on anyone who is less conservative than you. Our last lengthy exchange ended with a post of mine about how sick I am of your assumptions that anyone who owns a gun but supports any type of firearm regulation past or present is a gun grabbing liberal who is 100% absolutely against everything you stand for. My previous post with links to anti-NRA gun owners should help demostrate that this is blatantly untrue.

But you go ahead and keep imagining me into some kind of crazy liberal gun seizing monster in that paranoid delusional brain of yours if you makes you happy.

Here's what I find funny.

Conservatism ISN'T the "minority." It's the MAJORITY.

The problem is that they are not a very vocal majority. Go to any city, and liberals hold sway...but that's the norm. Nationwide, most people don't subscribe to what they are selling, but they have more important things on their plate than political activism...so you don't hear from them as much.

The reason Conservatives are losing the fight is because most of them are selling out to liberal values thinking it will win votes from the other side. That never works because liberals will stick with liberals most every time.

It's like a Christian church adopting more secular standards thinking it will win more souls. It might bring more people in, but it attracts people who want "salvation" without "sacrifice." It turns away those who are hungry for something real and different. Churches that hold to a standard and don't waver may lose people who don't want to live to that standard, but they always attract those who are looking for something that holds to a standard of accountability, and they experience more spiritual growth for doing this.

I think you ought to know that, Dox.

Oh, see the way you said it before, it sounded like you were talking about some sort of streamlining, but now you're actually talking about raising taxes.

What it is is that you want the government to do stuff for you and not enough other people share your desires. It's not that I just don't want higher taxes but also that I don't want government doing everything for me.
My advice to you: Emigrate.

Yeah, sure; why not just cut to the chase and go straight to where you're going, sans pages and pages of going in circles.

I thnk I said thinly veiled hate speech and/or racism but I'm not gonna go back and look. Also an accusation of trolling somewhere back there but again, I don't feel like finding it so sue me.

Ah, having a difference of opinion is hate speech. I'll have to remember that.

But you came back for more. Do you like being sick? You must since you know I haven't changed and you'll just get more of whatever made you sick the last time.

And you've never been able to qualify the value of regulation. "I want" aint much of a justification for making laws that effect tens of millions.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's a duck.

Here's a barf bucket if you're starting to feel a little queasy. Try not to get any on ya.

That's a brilliant euphemism.

Can't pay for healthcare? Personal responsibility!
Can't afford university? Personal responsibility!
Can't afford a good lawyer? Personal responsibility!

In short, "personal responsibility" is a way of blaming the downtrodden for their problems, and ensuring that there will always be an underclass of the downtrodden to blame. I'm not saying that's what you want, I'm saying that's what the policies you endorse produce.

We tried it, we rejected it. Then we rejected socialism and muddled along somewhere between the US and Denmark for a few decades. I don't know much about the political history of other European countries, but I think they had similar experiences either side of WWII.

Well, while you go off to the salt mines, my excuse is drinking too much to give my old friend - the Valiant - a send off. And yes, I am feeling very sad.

Someone bought it?
Honestly, I understand your pain. I hate seeing anything of significance that I've had for a long time leave me......

Thank you very much. After I sold her to Carmax, they asked if I wanted the license plate, and of course I said yes. Before we left, I found myself hugging the plate to my chest and felt close to tears. My wife saw my distress and hugged me, telling me it was going to be all right. Well, at least they told me either a collector or maybe one of their employees looking to restore something that old would buy the Valiant, as word had already gotten out about a '63 Valiant with push button automatic transmission would be arriving. So at least I probably don't have to worry about her being scrapped.
In regard to immigrating - nah, I like it here, and am proud to be an American, so I think I'll stay. Besides, if I left, who'd keep you conservatives from losing your minds from getting your way all the time?

I've still got my last one but since it still runs like a raped ape I've kept it as a spare. Being a pickup it does come in handy.
