Vince Vaughn: "Banning guns is like....."
Yes.
You won't be able to subdue someone with a sword that knows how to use it. Even with several people. The only common counter would be someone with a firearm.
You can only escape if you know what's happening, and you have the means to. Block a door, and no one can escape. Kill people quietly, and no one hears it.
You don't think you couldn't cut down classrooms of kiddies or massacre more than a dozen unarmed and unaware people in a mall with a sword?
I've had several years of formal Iaido/Kenjutsu experience and over a decade of gunz interest. I could probably kill more with a sword than a firearm (as long as someone doesn't shoot me).
Sly,there is no hate between us
I understand that you are very passionate about this subject. The thing is that I have my ideas and since I’m not an American, I have a different perspective.
I think that stricter rules are necessary for many things, like before giving people a license make sure that they are not a**holes. If a driver shows recklessness to others in traffic, take away his license. I’m sorry that you have almost had accidents, people can be such a**holes.
everyone is always in a rush to get places. often equates to getting to a stop light few seconds before me when driving but almost hitting people to do so.
actually there's 12 with more people killed by guns. all have super restrictive gun control.
then compare murder rates and you'll find there's 110 nations with higher murder rates then the US.
its not guns its the society. the us is made up of a bunch of different cultures. we have a lot of gang and criminals from all kinds of backgrounds.
10,000 deaths by guns while there's something like 300 million+ guns is .003333% even worse with the fact that a a bunch of those deaths are by single gun each. so the amount of guns used compared to guns owned is quite super low. you don't take away freedom for such a low problem. life is important yes. but the many outway the few. or we'd ban whole bunch of things and restrict everyone to never leaving their homes and living in separate rooms from anyone else. you simple can't make the world safe as long as humans exist they will kill each other.
often said by those that don't own guns, just as amish see no point to the use of cars, planes, and trains. guns are used for many other purposes, most guns aren't even used to kill people at least in the us. the guns that do are in the hands of dictators militaries and you're never get them to disarm. knifes were made to kill. people use them too cook. guns were made to kill, people target shoot with them, skeet shoot, olympic shoot, but yes they also still help to protect people from animals and yes when needed other people. things hardly ever stay how they were made. nuclear tech was designed as a weapon, yet now it brings power to the world, drives boats, and maybe one day cars. most hunting/sport rifles started as military weapons. the military has and does drive a lot of technology advancement. without the drive to kill one another we humans lack the drive to advance, its sad but true. most things were developed to kill.
And again no hate, just different ideas, I hope I don’t upset you either I know I will not change anyone’s mind on the issue, just expressing my own views on the matter. And I understand that most people that have guns are not out to hurt people. But it happens and when it happens it is horrible and cannot be undone. All that can be done is preventively.
indeed. it is up to your pro gun people to deal with your nation. reality is each nation and culture has to do things their way. we rose up against the brits in part of our gun rights, we fought them, guns are a big part in the american culture. we are a people born from pioneers, explorers, homesteaders, outdoors men. guns made all that possible. europe had swords but was ruled by kings who disarmed the population. europe has been disarmed for hundreds if not thousands of years. the idea of owning weapons is so odd to most of europeans because they were never allowed to for so long. they are use to being a submissive populace. the us isn't not. people try to tell us what to do we fight back. when they tried to ban so called assault weapons what happen americans who never owned guns went out and bought them by the thousands. they didn't like being told they couldn't own something, couldn't do something.
there are already so many laws/checks on gun owners, I doubt even congreess or the courts know them all theres like thousands of laws. broken laws. laws written by people won't understand guns. its like a bunch of men getting together to write laws about women's sex rights. they don't know jack about women's bodies like women do, so why should they get to determine what women can and can't do?
problem is you don't know. obama could snap tomorrow and kill his family. you can't predict people snapping. they can go all their life just fine and something happens to cause them to snap. evil people aren't born with 666 on their head. they look just like the rest of us. many have learned to act and pretend to be normal. lots of them become doctors, politicians or CEOS. what can be done is person to person, if you notice stuff talk to them and if that doesn't work go to the police. but blanket listing people is a step in the horrible direction. labeling and listing people is wrong, we shouldn't go down that road again.
look how different we aspies can be, yet nts would label and lump us all as the same, they think we are prone to violence at any notice. that we should be locked up to protect the public. you as I do know this just isn't true, so like the nt population some aspies are prone to violence. most are not. but if the antis had their way they'd label us all as a danger to society as mentally ill. the current system isn't 100%, but its the best. its case by case. people are innocent until otherwise.
saying all people born different are strange and there for shouldn't own weapons is wrong. saying this person is showing homicidal tendencies , or this person threaten to hurt people , this person etc. is the way. its not based off a label but what that person has done.
find it odd to be told I shouldn't own a gun ,while I accidently killed a worm today and got sad, by people who think they would kill someone over a incident while driving.
not you , but others here in the us.
there's people who place their desire to hurt others on everyone else.
then there's people who realise said desires and don't own guns.
then there's everyone else who doesn't have those desires and owns gun.
then there's people who just really don't care.
its usually the first group that wants to ban guns, they mislead others by appealing to their emotions.
I've met people who don't own guns because they don't think they should, but they still support others owning them. I say good going to them. they'll being responsible.
hugs I don't have any hard feelings to you. now if you came here and tried to push gun control, some things might get said. I don't mind people who have different opinions. I dislike those who try to push their opinions on everyone else.
gun owners don't push people to own guns, but antis try to push everyone else to not own guns. this is a flaw in humans, we will push our beliefs on others by force if needed. the source for so many wars, so many deaths. the idea that others can't think and do differently then use that it some how means our way is will be hurt. reality is 99.997777% of us people won't' ever get shot. if we passed laws tomorrow that made people feel better but changed nothing or caused gun deaths to go up would people be happy, likely not they'll go after something else. people kill. its quite sad. I don't understand it myself. I can take life. I hope I never have to defend myself be it from an person or animal. to me all life is special. I will defend myself and others if needed though. I'll deal with the sorrow afterwards but at least me and others will be safe.
hugs I too hope I don't upset you and that I worded things right .
Yes.

there was a guy who stabbed a bunch of people just stood outside a store and stabbed them one by one as they left.
yes it i said but logical. a bunch of 3 year olds aren't' going to subdue an attacker. heck most people won't. most people are selfish. so they wont' risk them dying to try to save another. so if a guy walked in and started stabbing people you could rush him, but then you're not increased your odds of being stabbed by 4 times or more. or you can hide and hope they don't' find you. or wait for someone else to try to stop the person. now imagine there's only one way in and out and the guy is blocking it. escape is impossible. I personally don't want to be stabbed. hard to say what'd I'd do. if I have a gun which I mostly do. I'd be able to shoot him safely from a distance.
same situation with a gun. if you rush the person you're going to probably get shot. vs if you don't its likely you may get shot. most people are going to run the numbers in their head. is it worthy getting shot/stabbed to try to save a stranger.
the few will but the most won't. kinda like how people will dig their own graves or cooperate with murders. it makes no sense the person is going to kill you why would you do what they want. because you try to avoid increasing the risks.
this is why people in other nations can kill a bunch of kids or people with a axe. my work's plane to a an attack is to jam hundreds of people into a room with only one way in and out and no weapons to defend ourselves. yay. sounds promising.
Sly no hard feelings, I found your reply interesting to read
I still feel that if people all of a sudden said that let’s make it legal for everyone in Sweden to own a gun I would be against it. I think that since the US and Europe has developed differently, there are big differences culturally and in ideology. But when you travel trough Europe you will se huge differences in culture, and I imagine it must be the same in the US.
I don’t see it as that Europeans are weaker because we have less weapons, maybe that fact brought out other developments. When I compare the US and Europe, what strikes me is that the individualism is so much stronger and important in the US than in Europe. I think people work better together here in the sense that people’s health and welfare is more considered a collective responsibility. With that in mind, I’m not surprised that guns are more important in the US, it seems people are more prepared for defending themselves, and also that they don’t expect anyone else to do so.
That is what some criminologists suggest. Because of the crack-cocaine epidemic of the 1980s induced by the Reagan administration's Iran-Contra Affair's drug-dealing by the CIA and DEA, relatively benign street gangs were turbo-charged with violence.

That is interesting, thanks for explaining

BLAST indeed. If you're not used to it, a .357 magnum is stunningly LOUD compared to other handguns (9mm, .45, 40, ect...).
Hehe. They are indeed! My SIG Sauer P229 is chambered in FBI .357-sig which, of course, combines a 9mm bullet with the brass and powder of a .40-cal round. The result is ALWAYS the same percussion of a .357 magnum. I end up apologizing frequently at the range. "Sorry!"
I've often thought about getting a P-229 in .357 . I've had my 9mm P-228 for a long time and love the feel and ergonomics of it. Reportedly the .357 SIG round can be a hassle to reload because of the bottlenecked case and that's one thing that's kept me from buying anything in that caliber.

I don't reload (though I would love to learn), but the neck is so slight that I doubt it would upset the round condition or its reloading. After all, reloading 5.56 x 45 involves a more significant neck, and people reload them all the time.

With handgun rounds it's typically a straight walled case that you use a carbide resizing die on and skip the case lubing step necessary with the typical rifle case which is bottlenecked. Skipping that critical step (or not using enough lube) results in a case being stuck in the resizing die, often resulting in tearing off the case rim trying to get it un-stuck. Using too much lube can cause issues, too.
Having to lube all those cases then clean the lube off at the end of the reloading sequence (I use a progressive press) is a step I'd just as soon not bother with for handgun calibers.
Yes, I reload 5.56 and some other rifle calibers but I'm willing (albeit grudgingly) to go that extra hassle for rifle/carbine ammo. With rifle calibers I usually use my single stage press since a case measuring and trimming step is often necessary with rifle rounds after the depriming/resizing stage which would interrupt the reloading sequence on the progressive press.
I prefer my handgun caliber reloading to be as hassle free as possible; five uninterrupted stages on the progressive press then DONE.

Makes sense, and thanks for explaining the details to me. Yeah, I probably would do the same.

I really hate guns, they scare me. People scare me too. The thing is that guns can kill a lot more people in a small amount of time, than let’s say a knife or so.
I really don’t understand people’s obsessions with guns, maybe it’s a cultural thing, but I’m really happy that guns are illegal here. I get that maybe most people will never use a gun against another person, but there will always be cases where it will happen.
People are crazy, and if you make it easy for people to kill other people more people will die, simple as that.
Gun sales and ownership in the US have gone up considerably since 2009 with little to no effect on crime and we have no shortage of crazy people here. It kind of shoots the whole "more guns - more crime" belief in the ass.
As far as obsessions with guns, I can't speak for others but in my case it's my Aspie obsession and always has been since I can remember. I'm nearly encyclopedic on the subject.

Sweden has a very high rate of gun ownership. It's actually ranked #9 out of the approximately 200 countries in the world and apparently actually allows anyone 18 or older to obtain a license to buy a gun (obviously you have to be approved but you can't even buy a handgun in the US if you're under 21. you can in sweden if you jump through a lot of hurdles, however). And Sweden doesn't totally ban fully automatic weapons like machine guns like we do here in the US. So you should probably research this topic more because I think you're misinformed based on a lot of the things you've said you believe regarding guns which are completely untrue.

For a hunting weapon you need to have a hunters license in Sweden. And for target shooting you need to be a member and show results from trainings and so on. You are not allowed to walk on the street with a weapon. And you need a license for every gun. And to have old weapons you need to be able to prove that you have a real interest, like an collection. If an owner of such a weapon wants to shoot with it than he has to apply for a license for every time. It is also regulated so that you can not hunt with gun that is for target shooting.
The fully automatic weapons are extremely regulated and is only allowed for a few that do it for a sport.
It is extremely regulated, I can not go and say hey I want a gun so I feel safe or whatever, you need to be able to say what for (few reasons like hunting and target shooting as a sport) are allowed.
Where did you get your information from?
Well, that is the difference between Sweden and the United States. Our nation was created for several specific reasons, not the least of which was a constitutional protection of the natural right of self defense in all instances. I would believe that a nation which has a long history of neutrality in armed conflicts would, like Switzerland, be one of the most lawfully armed (and safest) nations in the world. Your description suggests otherwise. So, I need to ask, what happened to your nation's firearm policies?
