I agree with a lot of the other things you wrote, but this last bit is really simplistic and broad-brushed. An insecure man, one who's easily made jealous, one who doesn't trust his wife to be faithful (and views her clothing choices as a signal to others), and/or one who's worried that other men will treat her inappropriately/better/worse because of the way she's dressed, or worried about what people might think of her/him/both of them based on what she wears, will probably want her to dress modestly, and might even be quite controlling about it. On the other hand, a guy might like the attention he/she/they get based on what she wears, etc., etc.

What some people think is attractive and appropriate can vary greatly despite the ideals that are often inserted into the general population's mindset. Besides that, the occasion, location, and time can change how an outfit is judged, and some people can be utterly oblivious to how they're usually perceived, or of course, they may not care. Some people may care more about how much a given garment costs, how it feels, how practical it is for them, and so on.

Today, my co-workers and I saw a man picking up his child while wearing a red bandanna in the fashion of a 1980s gang member, with a bright red, white, and black leather jacket, with his pants cuffs rolled up to reveal socks with a really bold marijuana-leaf pattern on it. We laughed, shook our heads, and talked about why anyone would think that was appropriate garb for a trip to your kid's elementary school.....or really, anywhere! We all agreed that fashion standards can be oppressive, but at the same time, he looked absolutely absurd to us. Sometimes there really is no accounting for taste.

I agree. There's just no accounting for the taste of people who focus more on what a person chooses to wear, than they do on the fact that a father is present in his child's life in a caring and responsible way.

I think that fashion standards are absurd.

Is that you modeling a burka in your avatar?

I laughed so hard out loud I almost lost my laptop and coffee down the stairs...

Have seen old fashioned women's swim suits? you could drown in them due weight of the material.

Then you had bathing machines:

http://www.messynessychic.com/2014/04/1 ... -machines/

Howe if you like you can wear a Burqini, with modern materials

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burqini

I see no problem with one piece. Just it seem that bikinis are popular. People like to tan.

Even of women wear short over their swim suit or a t-shirt too. People should wear what they ant.

What I don't agree with is somehow all or most of women's fashion is down to men. It is as ridiculous as saying the opposite.

Even if men create women's garment, there is no reason to assume it will sell.

Are you accusing us of not caring about a child's relationship with their father??

the thing that pisses me off the most about women's jeans is that the pockets are so tiny I can't even fit a phone in them. women need bigger pockets!! ! I have concluded that they want us to buy more purses and cover up their sinister intent with the excuse that the curvature of a woman's body in tight clothing would be disrupted by bulky pockets.

Oh! Are men's pockets bigger? I never knew that. So that's why they can tolerate carrying a wallet around in their pocket rather than in a bag. Suddenly it makes sense.

Women's fashion is a bit nuts. I don't understand the shoes. Why do women put up with such uncomfortable shoes? I spend hours finding comfortable shoes. What they look like is number 2 on my list. If they look amazing, but hurt there is no way I'm going to buy them. Also, men slag us off for wearing stupid shoes, but would they ask out a woman wearing unattractive shoes. I don't think so.

Maybe, I can fit a phone and a wallet in one front pocket. I think skinny jeans are a different matter, but I don't wear them. I never really understood the inner pocket inside the pocket/

Back pockets should never be used IMO. They are for show only.

I don't understand it either. Flats look fine to me. Height is the reason cited.

What I do know is heals were worm by men originally. There was a kind of gender reversal in fashion.

Of course not. I found the focus on his choice of attire odd, that is all.

Why do women wear revealing clothing?

Why not?

Jeans (& pants in general) pockets are so bad I may have actually worn something similar to this once or twice:
Image
(mine was much sleeker and didn't look as clunky. I was borrowing it from another techie and it was amazingly practical. Just don't call it a "geek fanny pack".)
But yeah, I think in general it's to force women to have to carry purses, in the same vein that heels hobble.

Remember all those articles from late 2014 about how women's fashion brands were going to increase pocket size to cash in on the then upcoming iPhone 6? Yeah, I didn't notice much change either...

yeah, they are much bigger and because their pants are generally baggier you can't tell as easily. I want to get some cargo pants designed for female bodies with different sized pockets everywhere, oooh and also a stylish fanny pack (if either of these exist). personally I hate purses and use a mini-backpack.

also, I have heard that pink also used to be a "male" color.

Ok; I'm glad it was just a misunderstanding on my part. :sunny:

My question is similar.

How come men's clothing is designed with either comfort or functionality/practicality as the primary consideration?

While women's clothing is designed with how sexy she'll look in it to a straight man as the primary consideration?

Men and women are not equal. This is not because of anything women have done. It's because when you average everything else out, men are stronger: physically, socially and economically (this is from a historical perspective across millenia, not just the way it is now, and anecdotal examples of strong/rich/powerful women or weak/poor/subservient men in the current picture do not wipe out the rest of history) men have more say over what women do than women do over what men do.

But one thing should really try to understand about why women wear what they wear:

Just because you find what a particular woman is wearing to be sexy, revealing, attractive, irresistible, inappropriate, embarrassing or whatever...the chance that she picked those clothing to communicate something to you, personally as an individual male, is slim to nil unless you are her significant other. So don't presume anything based on a woman's clothes. She chose them either based on how she feels about herself and her clothing, or based on the person who gave her those clothing, or based on the person she went out to meet.

Unless she's in a known hookup zone, don't base your interactions with her on what she's wearing. She didn't put it on to turn you on.
