Please, think before insulting. I can see where my particular framing was tedious and possibly...whatever...but really...considering the topic and the names mentioned...you're calling me a dick for asking if the OP was familiar with drug use in relationship to the topic?

I'm sorry, that was rude of me. People usually mean ill when they ask me those sorts of questions.

Thanks, apology accepted.

I meant no ill. I think at this point that's understood.

That said, I owe you an apology as well.

I apologize for ranting and getting worked up.

I'm sorry for all that.

Peaceful resolution of conflict in PPR?

Don't think that's ever happened before.

Woo hoo!!

OP. I have a question.

It's a straight forward question and I expect a "yes" or "no" answer. I do not require elaboration.

Here is the question:

ARE YOU PRESENTLY, OR HAVE YOU BEEN RECENTLY, DOING "DRUGS"/PSYCHEDELICS/"ENTHEOGENS"?

Please answer honestly.

This is something I always wonder about whenever someone says they "saw something" or can perform some sort of magic or psychic whatsit or other thing. People often forget what "mind altering drugs" actually MEANS. Specifically, the mind-altering part.

This is why I've always figured, that if anyone was ever going to try to show me proof of something like this, it would HAVE to involve zero things of that nature. Not even alcohol. I dont drink or do any sorts of drugs myself; I dont see the point and I prefer to keep my mind clear, as I'm often confused enough as it is.

Of course, actually ASKING someone that question does often produce a negative answer, as people have stated in this thread.

Now as for the rest of the thread, well, I'm already lost, yep. What else is new?

The wake doesn't drive the ship.
A comforting thought.

And PEACE would be apropos to the topic as well. Right?

Peace of mind a prerequisite for enlightenment, perhaps?

Peace appears to be integral to much discussion, motivation and process that focuses on "higher consciousness".

However it comes about, I too welcome it. Peace that is.

The only "higher consciousness" that I'm truly sure of are birds.

My greatest passions other than gardening are philosophy, spirituality, mysticism, and ethnobotany... the combination of studying those topics in terms of the potential use of an aspie mind is just exhilarating me t the point of wanting to write a thesis immediately! Anyone else have ideas on this?

I miss Alan Watts.
To my personal taste he had a beautiful mind.
It is nice to see him quoted.

Peace to you.

:nerdy:

Dr. McKenna was obviously controversial, but what a life he lead :!: :!: :!: ..... 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O
Very very few humans had as full and complex an inner life as him.
Of course he broke the law, like...every single day...  but if you can look past that he said and wrote a lot of fascinating things.

If I may, some of you may find Dr Stephen Wolinsky's(Psychologist and Advaita Vedanta teacher) material of interest.
He is exceedingly clear.
He trained under the late Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, who was phenomenal.

A small taste of Wolinsky

....and of Nisargadatta Maharaj

I hope you find it as illuminating as I have. :D

Thank you for the pointer... I will definitely have to look into them!! I am certain they are more kindred spirits.

From what I heard of Alan Watts I did like a lot of his observations, although my preference tends to be more toward Manly P Hall's stuff from that period - a bit less his far out topics than his sociology and introspection lectures. Both men were excellent writers and speakers though.

Something else I wanted to offer, I don't know if you were up for people sharing meditative exercises in this thread or if we're better off starting a new one.

I felt the urge a moment ago because I notice there's a lot of people here who work with Zao Shen and Vedanta techniques. If anyone's open-minded this is one of the more well-known in Western Hermeticism and goes by the name The Middle Pillar. Usually it opens with a Qabalistic Cross, which is in a lot of ways a glorified Catholic sign of the cross. In this video audio tape Israel Regardie didn't do that but he does have a good centering prayer at the beginning and exit which serves the same purpose pretty well:

I had never heard of Manly P Hall... he seems to be another very interesting person worth studying! Ty.
