Partisans use what they're given, and Obama's background gave them the opportunity to gin up the birther thing to try and discredit him, no racism required. They haven't accused him of murder and drug running yet, or colluding in a massive terrorist attack, smears that being white didn't protect Bill Clinton or George W Bush from (or John Adams from being called a hermaphrodite, if you really want to go back), it's just politics.

Trump is the Monkey Wrench that I will throw into the gears and works of the U.S. government. I have come to loath the U.S. government which is corrupt and rotten to the core. Hillary is just another political operative. If Hillary wins (and she probably will) it will be four more years of the same old sh*t plus it will be Billy Boy's third term in office.

Even if that's true, racists around the country jumped on the bandwagon.

And how's that Trump's fault? It seems to me that the racists would want the strong-arm of the government to put in Jim Crow policies. It's hard for me to believe that someone who is for reduced government could support such a plan.

I remember reading Their Eyes were Watching God as a required reading in high school and it was very frustrating how they'd imitate black dialect. To me that makes you a premeditated racist as you are doing that intentionally. I think that expecting people to speak English and speak a proper dialect is not racist; you are legitimately concerned about that person's well-being. To allow someone to do as they please is not to do them any favors because it stymies their ability to thrive in the culture.

Though I could think of someone who says: "I don't feel no ways tired. I've come too far from where I started from. No one told me the road would be easy." This was originally said by James Cleveland. Hillary plagiarized (copied) his black dialect; this is something that I consider as highly pandering and pretends to care about a group of people but it's a fraud. Using a different cadence is racist - something that even Malcolm X had done but with white audiences. He reformed his life though.

Because Bill Clinton says that Make America Great Again is a racist statement and he used it dozens of times, it makes me think that deep-inside, he has been a closet bigot all these years. In my opinion, though in a different and condescending way, the Democrat Party continues to be the party of racism. It's not the same as Jim Crow but it's based on economic disparity and where people live rather than an outright ban on people. Still the soft bigotry of low expectations might be worse since the needs are not properly addressed to truly judge people equally and fairly especially in the courts and legal system.

Racists believe limited federal government will allow for the reestablishment of voter suppression, gerrymandering to leave blacks a powerless minority in voting districts, Pro-Confederacy historical revisionism in schools, etc. And unfortunately, they're right, as has been demonstrated at the state level with the gutting of the civil rights act. Throw in Trump's nativist rhetoric with talk about his wall to keep out "illegals" (code for Latinos in general), and barring immigration from Muslim countries, even if they're desperate refugees fleeing for their lives, all to be done at the federal level, then you've got a perfect Alt Right cocktail for the racist right.

His background, in this case, is that his father was a black African. Questions about Cruz and McCain dissipated much more quickly, despite having more substance to them.

But you're right, partisans will latch onto anything they can, which is evident from any time spent in a thread about the presidency...

That should depend on who's coming. Most of the migrants are age 20-35 and this is also the group where terrorist could infiltrate the refugee population. I feel that children, their parents, and people over age 35 should be brought in first. Those age 18-35 should be forced to serve in their nation's military.

Any person who wants to come here who serves in our military should be allowed in provided that the reason for joining is because they love our country. For me, it's love of country that I want not a particular ethnic or religious group. I think alt-right is more about nationalism and less about racism. And I don't think Trump should have sparred with that Muslim family who's son died in fighting for our nation. He should have had grace and gave them latitude; they suffered enough.

I don't believe he is eligible, it wouldn't make any sense if he were. The whole point of the birther stuff with the implication that it would make Obama ineligible, the conspiracy was that he was born in a foreign country and we know Ted Cruz was.

Do you mean those under 35 should serve in the military of their host country, or in the hopelessly corrupt and brutal army of the failed Syrian state?
And yes, it's possible that terrorists could infiltrate the ranks of refugees. But it's also true that the United States does more to vet immigrants than any other country, which is why we've far less terrorist incidents than other counties. And there's another matter that a terrorist should consider: if those refugees were to discover an ISIS agent in the midst - someone of the very terrorist state that had killed their loved ones and driven them away from home - then I'd expect that ISIS agent would be facing a very gruesome death.
As for the Alt Right favoring nationalism over racism - the thing is, nationalism, especially when whipped up to the point of frenzy, ends up becoming indistinguishable from racism, as nationalism by it's very nature excludes what is perceived as the "other."

It's not the black part that was being made an issue of, it was the foreign national part, and that attack could have just as easily been leveled at a candidate with an Eastern European background, a Slavic sounding name, and a childhood spent bouncing around the former com-bloc states. Unless you've got a way of proving a negative, I don't think you can make a blanket declaration of racism here.

There were more than enough racists who made it clear birtherism was all about Obama's skin color. When Obama was elected, the dunce who runs Stormfront declared: "I am become a man without a country," then helped lead the birther charge. He was hardly the only one.

I'm basically going to sh*t-vote for Trump. I don't even agree with his policies.

I think building a wall is stupid. His protectionist rhetoric is absurd and laughable. But I'm sick of the lying, crooked media trying to paint everyone who isn't a Regressive a a racist, white nationalist, or whatever BS they come up with next.

The media going far enough to demonise a cartoon frog and talk about David Duke and other nutters. David Duke wasn't relevant until the media made him relevant.

Basically, I just want to give the finger to the media.

Just be sure you're not in any of the minority groups that would get shafted by a Trump presidency, and you're golden! White male able-bodied wealthy people should feel free to vote for Trump as they aren't likely to be effected negatively by any of his policies.

I thought you'd be more worried about abortion laws being scaled back wilburforce. Trump is not exactly pro-choice.

I'm not worried about anything personally in regards to the election, not being an American. My right to legal abortion isn't under threat (Canada is nice and progressive and is likely to stay that way.)
