Why is the US against Assad?

People can make these declarative statements about how Assad is a monster and that he has to go but unless you can come up with a workable solution to achieve that then you are just needlessly flapping your gums. Do you want to invade and occupy Syria? Would you prefer ISIS/other Islamic militants control of all of Syria rather than Assad? My ONLY interest is to eradicate the terrorists that pose a threat to the US, I have no interest in policing the world and intervening in every civil war.
Of course the Syrian opposition have killed loads of civilians. But we've made it a priority to get rid of them. So far, Assad has convinced everyone that he's indispensable, when in fact he should be put on that priority list, as well. Sure, we probably won't see democracy in Syria anytime soon. But who knows, maybe Assad has an officer under him who we could work with.
Bombing violent religious fanatics is one thing, killing families who just want to survive in peace is quite another.
Are you questioning if those civilians - including children - are really innocent civilians?
"Of course the Syrian opposition have killed loads of civilians. But we've made it a priority to get rid of them."
No you have not!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! You've made it a priority to support them!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! There's zero evidence that Assad carried out the chemical attack. It seems most likely that the chemicals were in the possession of the organ eaters and were bombed by the Syrian army.
(Sigh) In a recent interview, Assad questioned if the children in the video were even dead. A guy that heartlessly cold is more than capable of gassing civilians.
And how do you know Assad didn't do it? Because he's such a great humanitarian?
And while I freely admit in my heart, I really wish Assad was gone, but in my head, I know what would follow would be an even worse catastrophe than what happened in Iraq. I admit, I have no idea what to do, save to lean on Putin in order to make Assad lay off of civilians.

Read what I've written above. I guess he heard the mainstream media's claims that sarin had been used and then wondered why the terrorist medical workers were handling the children with only a disposable mask. I wouldn't put anything past the US and their allies.
You keep talking about 'gassing civilians'. For one, you have no evidence Assad did it. And secondly he had no motive at all, he was winning the war and knew the only thing that could get the US to turn on him would be a chemical attack. Demand that your government pulls out of the Middle East and all the other places around the world and focuses on its own problems.

Assad is going out of his way not to destroy ISIS, as he needs them to pose as the greater evil compared to him. The people he's been killing are civilians who are tired of his tyranny and flirtation with terrorists. And if the individuals who provided aid for the hurt and dying were members of terrorist organizations, then God bless them for at least that one act of kindness.

Why are you just repeating a theory made up by another user? Did Assad give them US weapons and Toyota trucks?

Luckily, not all journalists are money making slime balls. I've heard radio presenters crowing that Trump has now "become human" for bombing Syria. A psychotic TV presenter saying that the bombing footage was beautiful. The same 'liberal' media who were calling Trump "Hitler" now praise him because he's started killing more people. The mainstream/corporate media is a parasitic mess, anyone who has bothered to do some independent research rather than just swallow whatever they're told, can see this is complete nonsense. No one knows what happened last week and I haven't boldly tried to claim I know. The media are just doing what they always do, repeating bulls**t from politicians and the 'intelligence' community. The media is meant to be independent and ask important questions. Some BBC presenters like Nicky Campbell would make Goebbels proud.

It's quite a bit more than a theory.
And how do you know you understand the situation in Syria?

You don't know that. Because I've listened endlessly to people who've actually been there, brave journalists and US peace groups who've gone into the areas where Western journalists refuse to go. The mainstream media is using sources such as the 'white helmets' who are tied to Al Qaeda and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is one guy in his basement in Coventry, ENGLAND!

I'd have to hear your sources before I'd consider believing them.

Haha. I love it how you're suddenly so skeptical when it comes to information that would mean you'd have to alter your opinion. But anything you see on TV or from someone you agree with you just swallow it without question.

If it was the rebels' doing then it means they must have aircraft, which is not probable.

Yes, it was rational, as rational as the US nuking Japan, the Japan already lost and the nukes were probably unnecessary - but it was the safest choice in their POV to end the war with the least US casualties.
And he was confident no one would retaliate; Trump was so strongly believed to be Russia's best friend and his speeches leaning way more to Assad in the syrian conflict - The whole Pro-Assad/Russia camp got totally overjoyed upon Trump's victory in presidency.
The Trump strike was a total unexpected surprise move, it was in no one's calculations including in Assad's calculations.
Any analyst claiming today to have foreseen the Trump attack is a big liar. No one ever imagined that it could happen.

Really. You make me read through 'proof' where the 'experts' are using words like "maybe", "probably", and "we're confident". And they're saying that the 2013 attack was Assad, when there's no evidence and the UN said it more likely that it was the 'rebels'. These mainstream media papers should be shut down for war propaganda.
No one knows what happened, especially the 'experts'. Learn from all the lies before previous wars.

"Probably unnecessary". That's sick. They just nuked Japan to test them. It's OK when the US nukes people though eh? What if someone said Assad gassed those people to limit army casualties? Be consistent.
You're just repeating random conspiracy theories made up by the media and Co. He had no reason to launch the attack and was winning the war.

The nuking was sick, I was not saying it's ethically justified in any form, but I am talking from purely US military POV - the pro-nuke americans often repeat in their arguments that it was necessary to win the war with the least casualties, it is their most common argument. The Assad may have thought the same for his sarin attack
But this exactly why Assad may have gassed this area. I am being very consistent in this point, you get it now?
You're still denying the fact that....no one expected Trump would do a such thing.
Hell, Hezbollah people in the area close to mine were almost celebrating for Trump's win in the elections.
EVERY ONE of them thought that Trump means a guarantee for the US to switch sides or at the very least to step aside in this conflict, no one ever imagined that he would bomb the Assad side one day.
This guy is totally unpredictable, he may ally with Assad one day, who knows.
Yes, the US did, indeed, nuke Japan. There are arguments which state that thus "nuking" prevented millions of further deaths on both the US and Japan sides. That doesn't make it good for the residents of Nagasaki or Hiroshima, though.
But that was in 1945. This is 2017. We have restrained ourselves from nuclear attacks since then....and so has everybody else, for obvious reasons.
No matter who conducts a chemical attack, we must stop them, and prevent them from happening in the future. Chemical attacks are second only to nuclear attacks in the tragedy which can be induced.
What is it about Putin and Russia which causes the "Alt-right" to esteem them so?
Maybe the alt-right doesn't want to get stuck into another decades long cold war with an 'enemy' that isn't really an enemy? Obsessing about Russian interference has been a long tried and true deflection technique. If you can justify a relationship with Saudi Arabia and China then why not Russia? Russia and the US have many shared interests and together would make the world a much safer place, I have no interest in another 'great game' to be played like some do.
People brought up during that time seem to carry a lot of xenophobic prejudice against Russia, it's manipulation
