I Just don't trust the government to decide which trials can and cannot be reported on, its a power that is clearly open to abuse. These gangs have been covered up for decades I do not for one minute buy that it was because they were afraid of being called racist. There had to be powerful people also linked to it in order to cover up such widespread abuse for so long.

That is not what the government do. It is UK law that detail of ongoing court cases cannot be reported on by the media until that detail is revealed in court

It was already revealed in local papers though.

Revealed can be quite different to dishing out info that makes them in contempt of court

I do wonder now if what I was considering earlier might come to fruition - ie. that if he's blown his credibility with this someone else or several someone elses might stand in.

It could be that Douglas Murray and Maajid Nawaz w Quilliam might fill the gaps going forward albeit I think they'd continue to do it in their own way which is sticking to public debate forum, editorials, etc.

I hope so the growing Muslim population really worries me. 47% of Brits support a ban on Muslim immigration I think if people knew more about Islam it would be much higher. I doubt that even 47% of people know that Muhammad married and raped a child.

This is the kind of thing I was getting at with alt/youtube media:

Some additional info:

He got whisked off to court within four hours, the police told his lawyer that he'd been released and accordingly he was stuck with a public defender. Not sure what that was all about.

That's just more fake news pushed by his supporters unfortunately. We don't even have 'public defenders' in England & Wales. He was represented by a criminal barrister.

The judge who sentenced him was also seen laughing watching it which I think means he should not have been the judge on that conviction.

The judge didn't convict him of anything on Friday, he re-sentenced him to a custodial sentence from a non custodial sentence based on a conviction Robinson already received from a different judge in 2017

I'm not sure that came out the way you wanted it to.

The term public defender in the US, possibly some other countries as well, is a free attorney provided by the state to a defendant who doesn't have his or her own attorney or doesn't have the funds to get one. If it's just a mix up of names or terminology (ie. barrister vs. public defender) for roles that have identical agency and limitations that probably doesn't mean much, OTOH if they serve very different functions or if barristers have a great deal of power that defense attorneys in the US don't have that's probably worth saying a bit more about.
