No it is not rational, otherwise they would not keep disabled people alive, who will probably never work anyway. It has not really to do with money, more with religion. And christian "morality".

Disabled people still pay taxes don't they? And they pay for other things that contribute to the economy.

Actually I just looked it up and they don't pay for taxes on their benefits. So I was wrong.

I'm sure they still get exploited in other ways though. And society generally views the disabled with such contempt.

It’s obvious nobody posting in this thread is serious about supporting the legalization of suicide. Posting their arguments on a social website dedicated to people with ASD’s is not going to have as much effect on the law. Their best bet is to contact their congressional representatives and say that they want to commit suicide, and that Congress should pass laws making it legal to do so.

Simple.

Can't believe that after four pages, only one person has posted the correct answer!

It's not illegal in the US either, although case law might make it difficult for families to receive damages if a person of sound mind commits suicide (I'm fuzzy on the details).

This is why we have such a problem with fake news - someone made a far-fetched claim and almost everyone just accepted it on face value, and one person even suggested starting a letter-writing campaign!

I think the OP meant it was illegal in the sense that, although criminal prosecutions are no longer initiated as a result of a suicide attempt (at least not against the survivor himself), he is in a certain sense treated like a criminal for it; he can look forward to a lengthy stay in a locked mental hospital, for instance.

As far as life insurance, I believe insurers will pay out to the beneficiaries if the policy was purchased at least two years before the suicide occurred.

Aiding suicide is.
