Jesus was a Jew in the same way Benjamin Franklin was British.

So everybody who ever claimed to see giant squids out in the ocean were laughed at by the scientific community... until actual dead giant squids started washing up on shore.

So if you dare to believe in things that are not yet proven to exist by the all-knowing scientists then you are just a silly twit.

That doesn't mean it was rational to believe in giant squids before there was evidence of their existence. They could just as well have been shown not to exist.

So ... people were flung into space before Newton defined the principles of gravity ... ?

I laugh at anyone who believes that unicorns are real. But show me a live one that is not a surgically-altered animal that already exists, and I will stop laughing. Science progresses every time a new discovery is made. Some discoveries made by scientists have changed our understanding of the universe, and even diminished the influence of religious authorities.

If he existed at all, he didn't think of himself as different than any other Jew.

He thought of himself as somebody who was disgusted by the corruption of the rabbinical establishment in the Nazareth area.

So you're saying if sailors actually saw real giant squids before scientists discovered and documented them then they were still irrational?

That's some sound logic right there.

BTW every myth is based on fact in one way or another.

I still disagree with you there. Some things should be OK to believe in without science proving it.

Like aliens for example. Why do skeptics believe that we are the only planet that supports life in an endless universe of planets and stars? Just because we have yet to actually discover true life on other planets that doesn't mean they aren't out there.

It's more likely that a large marine animal exists that landlubbers just haven't seen than that aliens have visited our planet. But why would you believe something without evidence? I suppose you may have some trust in a particular sailor not to lie about seeing what is a natural thing. But that doesn't translate to the supernatural.

While I'm almost certain that life exists outside of our solar system, it's a huge galaxy, and there are trillions of galaxies, the vast unimaginable distances involved make it extremely unlikely that they have ever visited here in the short window in which humans have existed and they have had the technology and will to make that practical.

I'm not closed minded, I just think there are more plausible explanations for UFOs.

Oh and BTW, I never said I believe in UFOs. Just that I believe in life on other planets.

Well no one every said there couldn't be life on other planets. It's reasonable that if life arose on Earth, it could arise under similar conditions in other places.

Alternative explanations for UFOs are numerous. Unknown atmospheric effects, pilot error or optical illusions, mental illness, drug induced hallucinations, ball lightning, lack of oxygen to the brain, brain tumors, reflections, swamp gas, weather balloons, drones, eye diseases, dreaming... I could go on and on. Any of these are more plausible than long distance space travel. The speed of light is a limit on travel, and that is relatively slow.
