I concur. I'm all for responsible gun ownership, the key word being "responsible". In Canada you have to take a class in order to get a firearms license, and you can only legally own firearms with that license. I think this is generally a good thing.
That said, I think we need to reform our gun laws. I believe a person should be able to use lethal force to defend themselves, their loved ones, and their property. Right now, it's basically illegal to do that here. I would also take the AR-15 and its variants off the Restricted list, since you can easily obtain and use other semi-automatic rifles with a normal license, including guns that look like and function just like an AR-15 with only minor differences. The only reason the AR-15 is on the Restricted list is because it looks like a scary military gun.
BTW, just so everyone knows, guns on the Restricted list in Canada are only allowed to be used at a licensed shooting range. Using them outside a range, like for hunting, is prohibited. I actually don't mind the idea of a Restricted list per se, since getting one involves taking an extra class and such, which I think would be appropriate for semi-auto rifles and handguns, but I think guns on the restricted list should be usable for the same tasks as you'd use a non-restricted gun for.
