Los Angeles must be Grimora then. :P

Maybe Atlanta was Egypt? :farao:

And Twilightprincess I once saw two mennonite women shopping in Walmart. Their handmade dresses and bonnets were pretty and had flowers embroided in the cloth.

I actually think the handcrafted stuff Amish and Mennonite people make is pretty cool. I heard they make some pretty good food from scratch too. Like pies. :)

I’m not a big fan of those religions because they are so strict, discourage education, and have very rigid notions of gender and sexuality. There are some liberal branches of the Mennonite faith, though, that aren’t as bad as some.

Most Amish people quit school in 9th grade, so if they decide to leave their faith, their prospects are rather limited.

That's true, they have very strict gender roles in their religion. But I admire the beautiful things they know how to craft, and I admire them for being able to live without modern conviences we take for granted like electricity and plumbing.

I don't think I could live like that, but the fact that they survive without it is impressive to me. They work very hard to put food on the table all without modern conviences.

And Kraftie I don't drink alcohol. :P I'd love a nice coca cola or sprite with my granola bar though. :D

I buy Amish furniture when I can afford it.

I bought my oak bed 20 years ago, and it still looks new.

There is such a thing as non-alcoholic Pina Colada....just like there is such a thing as alcoholic apple cider.

I would love to try one of their pies. I heard they make great pies from scratch. :chef:

Hmm.. I wonder if I would like pina colada without alcohol? I like pina colada lifesafers. :chin:

Speaking of religion and food, I know Judiasm and Islam are both against eating pork. Are there Christians who are against it too? I know they are against eating meat on Fridays (if they are old school Catholics).

And apparently it's a mortal sin to eat shellfish or wear dyed fabric. Whooops!! ! :o

If you can read Ancient Greek, Ancient Hebrew, and Ancient Aramaic, you can read the Bible in the original.

If we are supposed to ignore the old testament and only accept the new testament, then why the hell do we still have the old testament?

I just don't get it.

You cannot "ignore" the Old Testament. How can anybody ignore the Old Testament?

I've heard people claim that the old testament is supposedly "wrong" about some things and once Jesus comes along in the new testament he basically claims "This is what God REALLY is all about!" And anything in the old testament that contradicts what he supposedly claimed should be ignored.

The Old Testament often talks about things like killing God's enemies without showing any mercy to the point of genocide and then Jesus comes along talking about loving your enemies. :|

Oh wait I'm wrong, the genocide of Jericho came when Jesus was around.

I guess Jesus supported genocide too. Go figure.

There’s some good stuff in the Old Testament, too. For instance, a lot of people find various Psalms comforting and think that it supports and enhances their Christian values. Most people follow the stuff they like and ignore the stuff they don’t.

There’s also the creation story, heterosexual romance in the Song of Solomon, the Ten Commandments, and lots of interesting stories about people enduring hardships (like Job and Jonah).

I’m not a Christian and don’t follow any of the Bible as far as religion goes, but I generally like and follow values such as the Golden Rule and find the rest interesting from a historical perspective.

You just need to find out what’s right for you.

I like dabbling in the occult. I have no real need for religion. Though wicca seems a lot more genuinely loving and compassionate to me than the Abrahamic religions.
