"Pox wench" sounds pretty bad, but Shakespeare said "flax wench".

No idea what that means.

Either a wench with flaxen hair.

Or a wench employed in the textile trade (weaving linens?).

It's probably some kind of raunchy Elizebethan slang for a "working girl", or something like that.

Was gonna say that "that could be".

But I finally looked it up on the web. Turns out that both of my theories were right.

A "flax wench" can mean either thing: "a woman who spins flax", or archaic slang for "a prostitute".
