as much as I respect your opinions,I think this whole "white privilege" incantation going around society is just an attempt by white people to get in touch with some higher plain of consciousness and feel superior to other people.Which would include blacks and other minorities
This.
If a billionaire can do it as effectively as anyone else and pass the buck onto some rural unemployed person it really looks like a wealthy and upper-middleclass grift where they can 'celebrate' other people's differences while simultaneously keeping them in poverty. Not much has really changed in the last ten years, it's just gotten tackier.

What could have been a great catalyst for discussion that might help ease tensions and create a better environment for us all, was tossed away in favor of condemning him for it, and tossing him away. I actually think it was highly courageous of him to share that story.
And this where I fit on the Left as someone who calls for acceptance that people can change, that they could at one time have held very toxic beliefs, but since have recognized that and made the change.
At the same time it is also up to that person to make sure their message strongly condemned their previous character so people don't feel like you are making an excuse that people who still hold toxic beliefs could hold as justifying the toxicity.
You also can't force people to feel a certain way, like telling someone who never knew their dad because he was killed by someone who acted Neeson did. People had good reason to get upset at Ellen for seeming to try and forgive George Bush for a lot of awful things that he did.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. Are you saying that it is like a cult or trying people trying to act like they are holier than thou?
Would you say the same about male privilege, that it does not exist and never has, when you have things like there never have been a female president in the USA?
The problem I generally have with people who are conservative is that throughout history they are always the kind that believed at that particular time or in the past things were perfect and the way it should be, so no "progressive" change should come. But then things do change and the new conservative think that then is the way things were always meant to be or have some made up idea of the past where you had the friendly black milk delivery guy and everyone was happy.
The fighter of rights of yesterday can find themselves part of the oppressors of the next freedom fighters, where the older person thinks that the new people are too radical. You would be surprised to look back at the freedom fighters of the pastthat are now considered heroes and see how they were treated just like the progressive movements today that are treated as going too far or acting too mighty.

By 'it' I meant take a knee, not 8-minute abs, dance the fox trot, or switch to Geico.

So now someone put a clock on how long Floyd was under the knee, and they're taking a knee for that exact length of time. That certainly kicks the macabre level up a few notches...

White privilege is not like you get a card that gives you a free sandwich because of the colour of your skin, it is that you don't get the type of harassment and disadvantage you would have gotten if you were not white. It is ridiculous that people keep interpreting it like calling that there is a thing like white privilege means that all white people must now pay a tax to non-white people.
White privilege would be like getting elected president and not getting some conspiracy from a nut job claiming that you were born in Kenya. White privilege is something you would not even notice you had until a black lady tells you she was once confronted by a police officer as a threat for skipping down the street until they saw you had a white person with you.
Sure, white privilege is not the only type of privilege that exists. You can able bodied privilege, rich privilege, male privilege, NT privilege, straight privilege and intelligence privilege. But it is white privilege that have made people blind to the deep problems in police brutality.
What is widely incorrectly called white privilege is not an unfair privilege but unfair disadvantages to blacks due to discrimination and being a minority. The current expanded definition of white privilege by definition includes all whites as having unfair advantages over all nonwhites when IRL being white gives one a much better chance of being treated fairly or getting unfair advantage than being black does. That does not equate to automatic benefits or consequences based on your race. Like with the term racist discussed above the term “white privilege” has been weaponized to delegitimize opposition to an agenda.

Not all change is good so while old people resistance often delays necessary change it also delays or mitigates bad change. This thread deals with this general theme in a boomer vs zoomer context,

How do we know they are disadvantaged unfairly though?

As a minority of any sort people are more likely to assume things about you. For example in an autistic context NT’s might assume autistics use body language the way they do or need socialization in the way they do. The minority is more likely to have to do many more steps to accomplish the same thing a member of the majority does.

So when whites become a minority in the U.S. white privilege will no longer be a problem? It's not too far off actually, maybe we could just wait this problem out.

But is that delay always equal or just? Is there a reason black people could not get the right to vote when they no longer allowed to be slaves? Is there a reason why gay people could not get married when being gay was no longer a jailable offense? Saying that you are mitigating bad change is just a pretty little lie to tell themselves to ignore how long it can take to eventually do the right thing they should have known 40 years ago was fine.
It is that weird thing where you get so many conservatives preparing to be the underdogs fighting a revolution for rights, when they turn into a fascist dictatorship trying to control people through fear of violence, or deathly quiet when the actual revolution comes from across the aisle. Where are all the people that were ready to fight against a tyrannical government, when it is revealed when there had been one for people of colour all along? When they see taking a knee as a step too far.
What positive cause has conservatives rolled back on bad progressive change, that was not far outshone by the positive progressive changea?

This makes sense to me and thank you for acknowledging that there are other types of privileges of which those who don't have them are disadvantaged by not having them. White privilege has been discussed as an issue long before the police brutality focus currently and has been discussed as disadvantaging minority races in many many ways in addition to police brutality.
Does "white privilege" top the other "privileges" you mention?
In the examples of disadvantaged people I gave it seems that some of you are saying even though those examples illustrate very stark situations that certain people experience which can include tremendous amounts of lifelong suffering, since they're white they still benefit from "white privilege" and as such their situations as I described aren't on the same level as anyone disadvantaged by "white privilege"? Or am I misunderstanding?
Shouldn't white people show solidarity and empathy for non-white disadvantaged by white privilege?
Shouldn't the rich show solidarity and empathy for poor people disadvantaged by rich privilege?
Shouldn't men show solidarity and empathy for women disadvantaged by male privilege?
Shouldn't able bodied people show solidarity and empathy for the disabled?
Shouldn't NTs show solidarity and empathy for NDs?
Shouldn't straight people show solidarity and empathy for gay people?
Shouldn't people with an average or above average IQ show solidarity and empathy for people with lower IQ?
Or if someone is white and in any of the affected groups that you mentioned above, are their issues of lesser concern or importance because they apparently have white privilege?

And yet Derek Chauvin is mostly a symptom of the real problem, he is not just some abolition of unique racism, if many of the testimonies of people like him are to be believed. More often than not the majoroty of the police stick up for each other instead of speak out against the bad. Just in the ladt few days a 75 year old man was unnecessarily assaulted by an officer, beimg pushed to the ground and ended up in critical condition, and after the offending officer was disciplined the whole unit quit in protest of that decision.
If what you are hearing about white privilege is phony and without any constructive efforts of civil rights advancement, then where are you hearing this from, what do you think does nothing, and what do you think could maybe be done instead?
