They are calling certain ideologies racist. Skin color does not exempt you from that label when you have that ideology too.
It's the same as saying "I can't be ableist because I am disabled myself" or "I can't be a misogynist because I am also a woman."

So Larry Elder is a black white supremacist? This is LUNACY!

What on earth makes you think that? Remember which one of the two of us actually LIVES in this state, has travelled regularly and extensively throughout, and has done so for most of 60 years. Every state has its issues, and I won’t lie about some of ours, but it takes more than a few issues to make a third world country. Think carefully before you jump into another conservative talking point.

The photos and videos out of some of your major cities do look pretty bad, and if they're anything like what I've seen in person in Seattle, I think the label could be fair for some places.

It wouldn't be reasonable for me to walk into a home, take a photo of the messiest part of its sewage system, and then claim that represented the condition of the home. You can find a way to snap a photo to justify any claim about anything. It is not a basis upon which to promote an opinion about a large state.
For the record, all the people I've known who have moved out of state still miss it here for a variety of reasons. That includes the ones who used to trash it consistent with conservative talking points. The cost of living is what tops the list of what they will never miss, and while they don't regret their choice to move, but they do usually discover they've traded issue A for issue B. Living a real life comparison ultimately tells more than any set of photos.

True, but as I said, I've experienced similar things here in Seattle, right down to the progressive prosecutor who won't charge property crimes and treats the homeless as a protected class, so while calling the whole state third world might not be fair, I don't think the sentiment is completely off base. Washington is a completely different state outside of the cities, even where I am just a bit south of Tacoma is very different than Seattle, like you'd hardly know you were in the same state at all, but I know what people mean when they talk about Washington going to hell.

At least he's not Gavin Newsom.
What's wrong with Newsom?
Look at California the answer is self evident.
Powerhouse economy on a global scale, environmentally conscious, great social safety net. So, what's the problem?
Political rhetoric and reality are not the same thing. It has been turned into a third world country by the Democrats who have been in power for the last 30+ years.
Says who? Red staters?

People who not live in the state.
Current residents definitely have their complaints, varying quite a bit by political affiliation, but believing the state is like a third world country is not one of them. Even many of the state's strongest resident critics usually stay put because their best economic opportunities are here. That, in a nutshell, to me, contradicts any "third world" characterization.
This state can be incredibly nutty, and it seems impossible to solve the large numbers of homeless (I've even seen some red state residents brag about sending their indigent west), but it's more like a brilliant but off-kilter CEO with a few really frustrating habits, than a third world country.
I've lived all but 3 years of my life here. I rather like the nuttiness, current recall election excepted. Must be so boring elsewhere.

I'm from California, (rural Kern County) my family left in the late 70s. I still have lots of family there.
But look at the decay, lawlessness and rampant violence in the major cities. Where else is theft legalized, or public dedication legalized? The state's leaders are living in a fantasy world. Sure if you stay in the rural or affluent areas you might not see this. But the rest of the state has gone to crap and that is why so many are leaving.

Anyone who sees what a disaster that state has become. Why are so many people fleeing?

When was the last time they actually went into the urban areas? Some people hate cities, lack understanding of what makes them tick, and exaggerate the issues. Compare the crime statistics of our large cities to those nationwide, including “red” ones. You won’t see the story you’ve been led to believe you will.
Decay? San Francisco has rebuilt nearly every once poorer section compared to 4 decades ago. It has, in fact, been so extensive there isn’t really anywhere left for those who aren’t wealthy to live, which is its own problem but pretty darn opposite of what sits in your head.

I’ve already contradicted your assumptions on why: cost of living. It’s a necessary adjustment to bring housing supply and population back into a more reasonable ratio. There are always people moving in and out of any state, but the reason it’s become a net outflow is purely demographic, no matter what words different people utter as the leave.
Shoot, my own son is one of those who has moved out of state, as has a large circle of those he went to high school with. The group is now all in the same equally liberal city, just cheaper.

Well if you are enjoying the state thats fantastic.
I know of quite a few people who think differently. My personal idea of a good place to live is probably a bit different than yours. My wife and I are soon moving to a suburban area outside of Tulsa because what was once a beautiful, safe and friendly city has now becoming a dirty, crime ridden cesspool. Much of America is going through such a transformation.

Live where it makes you happy, but stop publicly bashing places you don’t seem to be able to understand. It is an ignorant and inaccurate, cheap shot political debate tactic.

Cheaper for now, give them a few years and they'll take care of that, and then wonder what happened after yet another previously livable city is rendered unaffordable and plagued with crime and homelessness. Ask me how I know.

I have reason to believe that your idea of unlivable and my son’s idea are not the same, but change is inevitable and I know what you mean. It is always unfortunate, however, when the way a place changes ruins the place for anyone. Change is disruptive.
