Homosexuality

Who the hell would choose to force themselves to 'try' being gay?
I was trying to empathize with gays, so that I'd learn something of the experience to desire my own gender. It was for you, Soph!

But you'll try and stop them getting married in the first place?
My country asks me to vote. And they ask me to vote by my beliefs. Are either of those things wrong? I'm not going to interfere with a gay pride demonstration -- everyone's got the right to free speech. Similarly, don't try to shut me up; I have a right to speak my opinion just as you do, as long as we do it calmly and rationally.

Not for me.

right on Soph...

well, it looked like you were stating that gays forced themselves to have that attraction, people who are different from us, would not take that statement in a good way, or at least they would have that interpretation, that if you really meant something else.

i think the concept of resist sex outside of marriage is completely diff than denying/accepting who you're sexually attracted to...
the first is just a matter of principle and will power
to reverse the second would take considerable willpower to abide by.... but that's all youd be doing... abiding... you'd never reap the benefits of enjoying sex with a partner of the opposite sex... just as a hetero wouldn't really ever enjoy sex with someone of the same sex....
it would always be forced

I'm not certain that I agree. Indeed, for me it
seems as much a matter of aesthetics as anything
else. I feel almost no attraction towards males, but
likewise, I feel nothing towards women who don't fit
my tastes. And, I do know that I've been able to link
sexual desire to things which even repulsed me (blood),
in order to please someone. So, while maybe it's true
for some people that there is no choice involved, I at
least, believe that I could learn to enjoy going the other
way.
yes im talking about the extreme end of the spectrum...
but for salvation's sake... so to speak... you're expected to deny any sort of gay feeling that you have... though most certainly, the mid-road bi people have an easier time getting into heaven
my point with that post was supposed to be that the restriction of absitnance is different that the restriction of your sexual attractions
cause ragtime was using his point that he abstains from sex as being on par with gay people (extreme cases or other) limiting their attraction to the opposite sex
they are not allignable, really

I don't think that, given the level of
freedom here, anything which would
qualify as hate speech was in his post.
And that seems to be the agreed upon
bar, which is set.
i didnt think what he said was bad.... just his attitude..
to come out demanding respect for your views when you dont give it in return..

But that's my point: after God changes your heart to prioritize Him, it's not acting. It's real. I'm free to sin, and I'll be forgiven. But, deep down, I don't want to sin. Even though I'd be fully forgiven if I did.
Sedaka wrote:
what if you did everything full heartedly but were still plagued with these gay feelings.... i have a suspicion they'd always be there
I'm plagued with sinful feelings continually, but I pray, and He makes them bearable.
A person with gay inclinations could pray for God to lessen them, and He would. I personally know formerly gay people who have prayed to God for Him to lessen and quiet their gay feelings, and they say He has done so. If I got married, I wouldn't successful never lust after another woman till the day I die! But that doesn't mean I'm not on the right track in trying to be good! The Bible assures us we won't be perfect as Christians -- that's WHY Jesus HAD to die -- because we couldn't handle the burden of perfectly earning our way into eternal life.
God's rules are: If you're struggling with a sin, you're the victor, because he counts the will foremost. The Bible says all Christians struggle with sin. And further, it says that if you're not struggling with sin, you'd better stop right there and examine your life, because something isn't right. In that case, you're drifting placidly on a subtly accelerating stream which is headed for rapids ("trouble") and then the waterfall ("Hell").
Sedaka wrote:
and honestly, i dont really think you can fathom homosexual attraction until youve had sex with a man....
No, Sopho's right. Being gay, as defined as "always having felt attraction to only the same sex" has nothing to do with hands-on experience. Sopho's quite gay indeed, without doing the rode-test.
Sedaka wrote:
and even then, i doubt you can really fathom what it would be like to be in a relationship with a man and have that the rest of your life.
Nor can I a lifetime relationship with a woman. That's why I could never make an informed decision to marry.
Sedaka wrote:
would you have homosexual sex the rest of your life if it would get you into heaven?
If it was right, yes. But as Paul said, I'd sacrifice my own place in Heaven if I could put someone else there instead. So when it comes to doing what's right, I'm beyond pathologically dedicated -- I'm dedicated through the almighty power of the spirit of God.

the true measure of empathy would be for him to engage in homosexual relations in order to appease god.
that is what i sincerely doubt he could fathom.
i cannot nor could i pretend to do so... in actuality or "fathoming"
it is the same reason that many gay people have issues with religion... because THEY cannot fathom having to have straight sex or deny part of their sexuality...
just to get into heaven.

Well, the following recommendation won't get her into Heaven, but: Joining a nunnery WILL get her the sex!

yes, you know you're missing the point....

Which is why I called him on making such a BS
statement, to begin with. The forum rules are
the forum rules. And we're not going to treat
someone any better (indeed, I really want to
treat whiners worse), for demanding that we
follow his rules.

In that case I will have to decline.
Again, you know you're missing the point....
