Yoga was brought to the West by Hindus, e.g. Swami Vivekananda and Paramahansa Yogananda. It was not "appropriated."

Tell the woke that, not me.

Frankly, I feel like diversions from the topic at hand often enhance the topic at hand.

Yes, I've seen that... :x Britain is in a complete mess, the part time, temporary Prime Ministers are making it worse.

Did you see that the Deputy PM had to order an investigation into himself about bullying because the PM wouldn't? WTF

People, naturally, "appropriate" aspects of other cultures which they find appealing, and which are an improvement over their own culture.

The very people who are bemoaning "cultural appropriation"-----probably "appropriated" something from other cultures at least ten times in their lifetimes without even knowing it.

Even the Yanomami in the Brazilian Amazon-----have appropriated certain aspects of other cultures (e.g., metal tools).

I feel something like Morey Amsterdam claiming ownership over calypso/Caribbean folk music lyrics, and making money off of them, is problematic, though.

I didnt know about that. But yeah, both of our countries are in such a screwy mess right now. :(

But humor like this helps to soften the blow at least. Right? :D

Edit: Btw when she says "With a government like ours who needs terrorists?" I thought to myself "Wait a minute, I thought that was America's motto?"

I agree kraftie. And honestly some truly beautiful things were born out of cultures borrowing ideas from each other over thousands of years.

To not allow this is merely just a form of segregation imo.

The UK government is basically just privatising everything, doing deals with rich oligarchs, raking off the money for themselves and will leave the UK bankrupt in time for the next government to struggle with.

Probably the same as the US?

Not sure but one thing I know for sure is that the US is being hijacked by fascist nutjobs trying to provoke us into another civil war. I don't even think this is about about Trump anymore. :|

I'm starting to think Trump was merely a puppet exploited by America's right wing extremists so that they could shake the whole system up and gain authoritarian power.

Maybe the only reason he's losing relevance lately is because the GOP feels they no longer need him? They're moving on to even more dangerous whackjobs like DeSantis.

The term "cultural appropriation" does not refer to just any borrowing from another culture. Here's an article that explains the difference:

- What Is Cultural Appropriation? by the Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica. The main point: "Cultural appropriation takes place when members of a majority group adopt cultural elements of a minority group in an exploitative, disrespectful, or stereotypical way." The article goes on to give various examples.

And unfortunately the 'woke' are the ones misusing this term to attack any white person who takes an interest in another culture. For example: you like watching anime, reading manga, or playing Japanese video games? QUIT STEALING JAPAN'S CULTURE WHITE BOY!! !"

I understand what you are saying, Mona.

Frequently, though, there are folks who broaden this definition.

I can understand the need to not disrespect another person's culture by stereotyping it like black face for example or having white people dabble around with religions like voodoo because of the dark and flashy way its always portrayed in Hollywood so that they can feel 'edgy'. It's a mockery of the African culture by their former oppressors.

BUT people are taking the term cultural appropriation to an annoyng and cringy extreme to the point that it's become a new form of segregation. I make no apologies for calling the woke SJWs out on their horses**t.
