Usually when you hear a right-winger use that word it's a warning sign that they're about to say something incredibly racist or homophobic. It's always something about drag queens, or Muslims, or this-or-that ethnic minority (notice that it's never straight white evangelical types who get called "groomers" even though p***philia is completely normalized within their communities)

Ugh, "groomer." Honestly I would love it if the whole entire internet could stop using this word. Or maybe have it auto-correct to "gay filipino muslims" since that's usually how that word is meant to be read, lol

True. They dont talk about the English Jamestown colonist John Rolfe as being a "groomer" for persuading the teenage Pocahontas to marry him.

I remember how awkward grade 7 history class got when the girls realized Champlain's wife was our age.

Quote:
One route Champlain may have chosen to improve his access to the court of the regent was his decision to enter into marriage with the twelve-year-old Hélène Boullé.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.

Groomer in right-wing circles seems to include people who help affirm queer kids identities while not including adult men who pursue sexual gratification from minor girls.

That teacher who helped a queer kid to feel less insecure about who they were = groomer.

MAP Walsh, Matt Gaetz, Ted Nugent, etc = not groomers.

Unfortunately right-wingers do that a lot, they hijack vernacular with the intention that much of their audience won't know the right-wing definition and will instead understand what they're saying as though they were using those words like regular people.

The right just wants to destroy the meaning of the word so they can continue grooming and not gey called out for it.

The Right also engages in a lot of "Projection" or "Ad Hominem Tu Quoque" -- blaming others for the very crimes the Right-wing nutters themselves commit.

Kinda funny when you take into account how many right wingers are actual groomers, they talk s**t if trans people and drag queens grooming children when they themselves are trying to date 17 year olds 'once they turn 18' of course. So idk on that note who really are the groomers? hint... i don't think it's the drag queens.

It's a right-wing diversionary tactic, claiming that they are not the groomers, but that the people accusing them of grooming are the "real" groomers.

Sorta like when I accused some bullies of stealing my bike, and they told the cops that *I* was the real thief, and that they were just taking back what was "rightfully theirs".

(I had the receipt with the serial number, and the store clerk remembered selling the bike to me.  The bullies got probation, they beat me up for being a snitch, and their probation was extended.)

OMG, the brazenness of some people, shame you got a kicking for proving ownership.

They beat me up for: (1) standing up for myself, (2) telling the truth, (3) calling out their lies, (4) being right, (5) proving their criminality, (6) getting my bike back, and (7) being "weird".

The way they reacted is sorta like how the Right reacts to similar actions from the Left.

"Groomer" seems to be replacing "Socialist" as the Right's favorite dog-whistle hate-word.

"Socialist" seems to have replaced "L*bt**d", which replaced "N****r", which replaced "Queer" (and similar epithets), which replaced "Commie".

I may have the replacement sequence wrong, but the point remains the same: The Right seems to be obsessed over finding new collective labels for all the people they fear/hate.

Replace? The far-right uses both. Right out the McCarthy playbook...and I'm not talking about Kevin.

CSA is rampant in my former, very conservative, religious community. With the boys club they've got going on and the extreme ignorance and insufficient policies displayed by the people in charge, many kids experience grooming and abuse. I've known some who've been through it. It's so sad. The people in the church don't even think they have a problem. They think "worldly people" are even worse. smh

Yeah, it's pretty disturbing. I can relate to some of it, especially episode 2.

I'd be lying if I said you didn't spring to mind when watching this. :(

Watching it was triggering but healing as well. I made some connections that I hadn't made in the past. It's always been hard to articulate my experience.
