Yes alot people (mostly with average IQ's).
So I take it your all in support of privatizing the Social Securty system with no limits on how people can invest that money?

If someone as stupid as you signed a contract ... yes
oooo personal attacks. really proved your point there. i'm convinced...prostitution must be kept illegal.
Earlier I said I had no view on whether prostitution should be legal. Can you read ?
Like I said, if you signed a contract .... yes

average IQ is not legally ret*d. when i say that term, i don't mean the people who have poor decision making skills, i mean those who are actually mentally handicapped. the people with average IQ's are just lazy and they hurt themselves by not taking better care in their dealings.
and yes, i do support private social security. give me a refund on all the money i've dumped into that money pit and i'll manage my money for myself. i could put that money towards buying a house a decade or so down the line and then save up from there.
i don't get what the issue is with limitations on how people can invest...why would limitations need to be put into place? what are some proposed limits?
but anyways, back to the point. the argument used here just doesn't work. saying people had trauma in their lives and so it should be illegal for them to make a decision just doesn't work...i mean look at our president...his sister died when he was young and his parents' approach to the whole matter scarred him for life and he's turned out fine....i mean look at his decision making abilities...sharp as a tack, that one!
.....i'm not sure what that sarcasm is directed towards anymore....i think the point i'm trying to make within it is that it's absurd to say that people shouldn't be allowed to make choices because they've had a bad life and there are much more legitimate people who have made far worse decisions due to their trauma that are considered legit (until bush is in jail or actually impeached, he's legit).
plus that, the same arguments have been made about the porno industry. and yes, there are some who had bad lives or do drugs...so what? there's people in all walks of life who have made bad choices. the 40 year old working at best buy most likely does drugs and made bad choices.
i think it comes back to the bottom line of people being afraid of sex.....well...liberated sex. free to do what one wants. and yes, available for guys who are ugly or socially inept to be able to get it through monetary means and for guys who need company (these people do exist). available for women too (can't leave out the male prostitutes and their gay and women clients).

Average people are not exactly ret*ds. I really see no reason to act as if I am their father. They are adults, I don't want to give them the paternalism of big daddy government because it stands against liberty which is higher and more important given the injustice that paternalism can easily represent.Quote:

I know it is a risky trade. Technically all human beings have options other than selling themselves for sex, the real question is what makes selling themselves the best option. I am not so sure that it is because of a lack of options so much as the fact that the typical prostitute earns more than the typical architect(fun fact found in Freakonomics pg 106 if one wants to verify). I think that most women will pursue that path because of very expensive habits though given the popularity of the term "crackwhore", and not be quite as driven by necessity but I could be wrong given my lack of knowledge on the particulars of the sex market, I might need to purchase more sexual services to know these people better. I know you ensure standards but I do not see this as necessary.
It's neccessary, so that the girls can't be abused, and everything happens safe in a brothel. If there's a sex market, it needs to be regulated just like everything else. Prostitutes at the moment also become involved in crime due to their low incomes, and have to keep working every night. If it's taken to the brothels, and a minimum wage is set, then they won't have to resort to crime, and they'll be able to support themselves.

prostitutes get paid way better than minimum wage at the legal places.

It isn't that necessary as they are choosing a risk of that and legalization will likely reduce the average risk of abuse. That assumes that everything else must be regulated, an assumption that I don't think I accept. Prostitutes don't make low incomes though, they make higher than the average architect, something I pulled from Freakonomics which was written by 2 well noted PhDs. The very nature of prostitution is going to keep wages higher than the minimum wage as these girls are going to get paid a premium for risk and social undesirability simply due to how prostitution will likely work due to labor market conditions.

Much better than being left on the street and having a low irregular income. £50 or so a night if they're lucky in the illegal trade.

Your tone, as well as views, deserve little respect.
a rose by any other name is still a rose. mentally handicapped or ret*d...they still have a mental problem and it's different than just someone who makes poor life decisions. and i don't mean it in a disrespectful manner but rather as it's a lot shorter than writing out mentally handicapped. it's not like i'm saying kill the ret*ds or quit acting like a ret*d. and i do mean it in the legal sense of ret*d.
and from what i've seen in this thread, you deserve no respect.
