. Well, I remember playing a game where you had civilizations. You could either use your culture, or your military, to conquer the other players. The United States has a very powerful amount of both. What I was trying to explain, is all the United States needs to do is keep pumping their culture down there, and you won't have to ever do anything in regards to the military.Is the U.S. really "pumping it's culture down" into Mexico?
Isn't Mexico just pulling it in of their own volition?
That could hardly be our doing.
Nearly every country in the world imports American music, films, clothing styles, etc. in droves. We're hardly to blame if they want to be like us.Mexicans are too proud to be forced into anything.
As long as you don't attempt to remove any of the following from Mexico you'll be fine: Liquor, tortillas, and the Virgin Mary.

No way!
The US government tried to annex Canada in 1847,
but President James K. Polk settled for a halfway point
between the current US border and Canada.
The Geneva Conventions of 1948 go as follows:
Protected persons who are in occupied territory shall not be deprived, in any case or in any manner whatsoever, of the benefits of the present Convention by any change introduced, as the result of the occupation of a territory, into the institutions or government of the said territory, nor by any agreement concluded between the authorities of the occupied territories and the Occupying Power, nor by any annexation by the latter of the whole or part of the occupied territory. Individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the Occupying Power or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive. ... The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.

So what to do with the flag then?
We could just have a 9x9 grid of stars. Hmmm, wouldn't have the right proportions since the part with the stars isn't a perfect square, though we could change that since it originally was one.
If we also happened to make Puerto Rico a state, and split up TX into three states and CA into two, then we'd have 85.
With 85 we could do an interlaced 5x9 and 5x8 similar to the interlaced 5x6 and 4x5 designs we have now and just make the rectangle a bit more elongated.
Or if we had 84 we could do two interlaced 6x7 grids.
Most prime numbers would be trouble unless they could be split into two reasonable composites.
Then we might have to go back to some kind of non-grid-based pattern. I'm not sure how we're going to work in the eagle holding a maple leaf on there then too.
