In my experience it's not "demanded that no teacher allow room for a scientific possibility other than Darwinian evolution." It's demanded that science teachers teach the best science available, and as it happens that doesn't include ID, creationism, or any alternative possibility to evolution yet put forward.

Well, it is BECAUSE Darwinian evolution is the best science available. We are saying the same thing, just putting emphasis on different factors. I say we teach Darwinian evolution because that is the best science, you say we teach the best science and that happens to be Darwinian evolution. Also, before anyone questions the term "Darwinian", I am only doing this to distinguish from Lamarckian evolution or something of that nature.

Oh, I meant to emphasize that teaching the best science is not the same as excluding any possibility of anything else being true.

Yeah, I might not have even batted an eye had it not been for recent videos with Ben Stein saying things like "Darwinism doesn't explain gravity" (around 4:29 in the video). Uhhhh, okaaaay.

was actually just talking about this sort of stuff with a physics prof... they are currently finding that the universe is expanding at an increasing rate... and one thing they theorize is that there didn't used to be all these forces (such as gravity, magentism, ect...) in the universe, that there used to be fewer (that they were combined somehow)... i'm a lil fuzzy on how he explained their theories for the separation of these forces with time... but somehow, they can tell that there are specific events where something changed and they think it's when these forces are separating out. i mean, he said, if there was a point in the time of this universe that existed without gravity, it was all of about a sec or so... as that was the 2nd one that separated out (time was first)... what's interesting, is that he said they're predicting that another force or something is going to settle out "soon" (who the hell knows how long that is.... i think those were his words, lol)

it's really crazy stuff... i don't really know how to assimilate it.... it's really hard thinking beyond our 2-3 dimensions (ie-time & space (2D & 3D)

Wow.... that thing he said was stupid. Evolution does not explain gravity OR thermodynamics! WOW!!

yet both those things are congruent with evolution... and support it :P

C'mon, that's clearly propaganda by him!

Evolution is a conspiracy that scientists are either willing to or intimidated into professing belief in, and praising it into things much greater than its actual scope. Just like global warming.

You know, conspiracy theories do not really help your case too much.

And Darwin never mentioned astronomy! Wow, really?! A biologist doesn't attempt to explain why the planets stay in orbit... well, Newton had already done that back in the 1600s, so it really wasn't necessary anyways. Ben Stein is an idiot.

i didn't even have to watch the whole video, i saw pat robertson and knew that whatever was going to be said is propagandist spin or just out and out lies.

but since propagating lies is fine: pat robertson is a child molester who puts coke on his penis before shoving it into little boys' butts.

I keep hearing that evolution is opposed to God, but haven't yet seen any evidence for it. Can you provide that evidence?

How about most of the threads on PPR and most of the posts made by anti-theists? If you can't see the link, it is not my fault.

Many biologists share the same sentiment. You really should study the topics you speak about, at least superficially, so you can understand what you are attacking. There was a great article in Scientific America making the case for global warming about a year or two ago.

Ever heard of Venus? Co2 galore. We release Co2 when we burn fossil fuels. We are becoming Venus.

Hello there, just in case you wanted some evidence that evolution is NOT opposed to God.

well get right on winning your nobel prize with coming up with an alternative SCIENTIFIC THEORY that explains how everything came to be.

Even if it's non-naturalistic? Or is that a prerequisite?
