So, why aren't you scrutinizing McCain for repeatedly failing to recognize the differences between Sunni and Shia? I think this issue just might be of consequence. As opposed to technical distances between Kentucky and other states. If you stop obsessing over maps for a millisecond, you might just realize that Illinois, particularly Chicago, is not at all close to Kentucky in terms of demographics, culture, economy, etc. I guess there's no cure for delibrate obtuseness, though.

I don't really like it but I see a bit of hypocrisy here. I would bet that a lot of the people defending Obama here made fun of Bush's constant slip-ups. Most of these quotes are indefensible, and are wide open to parody. I still think that the candidates should be examined mostly on their policies (where Obama easily beats Bush) but, come on, he said there's 57 states, not counting Alaska and Hawaii. It's funny.

Edit: I've just realised that this post could get me a lot of enemies, so I'd like to say that I know very little about American politics and should probably be ignored.

I admit that I occassionally enjoy a good "is our children learning" quip, but that's as far as it goes for me. Bush and Cheney say plenty of other idiotic things delibrately, so I find no need to dwell on gaffes.

Shi'ite.

Shi'a is the correct Arabic term for the sect, it literally translates to "followers of Ali". Shi'ite is an English language term refering to a member of the Shi'a sect.

Ok, thanks for the correction.

I think the ultimate choice will be between Obama and McCain. I am not going to make my decision over the occasional gaff, which both have made. I prefer to look at policies - for instance, the war in Iraq, energy policy, the economy, etc.

The real reason it's "harder for us to use them" in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi or other non-Arabic languages.

While the locals in Afghanistan speak Pashto and Farsi, the Al Qaedas there are mostly foreigners from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Tunisia and Egypt. These all speak Arabic, not Pashto or Farsi. There is competition between Afghanistan and Iraq for US translators of the Arabic language. Criticizing Obama on this displays ignorance and desperation.

Obama said that he had been to all 50 states, then he said no, I haven't been to 2 or 3, then he tripped on his thought trying to do math while speeaking - he said that he had been campaigning in 57 (instead of 47). This proof that Obama can get tongue-twisted is being elevated to 'an issue' by the people that brought us 'mission accomplished' in Iraq. Except it is total BS.

Taliban website in both Pashto AND Arabic:

Quote:
Tarzi speculates that the website's use of the mujahid label, as well as the fact that the website is maintained in Arabic as well as Pashto, suggests a link between the website creators and those associated with global jihadist groups of Arab origin.

Although he is a petty player, Ragtime is a mouthpiece for the neo-cons. He keeps catapulting their propaganda.

dumb or not I am totally sure that Ragtime and parakeet would still hate Obama(even if he was genius) to death only because of his islamic roots.

I am saying that based on my observation on this forum and I am 100% sure about it.

1. I don't hate him.
2. He is not a Muslim, but he is a liberal Christian.
