Outside of self consistent abstract systems like mathematics it's impossible to prove something does not exist.

I've woken up the same on a day-by-day basis as I have for the past twenty-eight years and to my recollection it's always been the same to me; no falling sky, no parallel universes, and never have I won the lottery. Could the fabric of time and space really be throwing a deceiving pitch if one of the three did occur? Perhaps a miracle, and/or maybe calamatious happenstance, but sooner or later people just go on living and forget the greater questions of existing; why?

The question "why" has all sorts of implications. It implies that the universe is some sort of functioning machine and like a cog or screw or some other part, each of us must function in a particular way to permit the machine to perform its designed function. But if the many dynamic parts of the universe interact with no designed function other than to conform to the restricting physical laws which determine all the interactions of the universe then there is no "why" to answer to as no individual part of the universe can do anything but what it does under universal laws. The Earth is such an insignificant part of the universe that no general patterns can be totally discerned from such a minor area. Why worry about it?

I think it helps people not feel so small, and that's better for those 'day-to-day' concerns and goal-oriented thinking-- the reason civilizations come to be; hope and prosperity.

Perhaps people should realize how small they really are, how vulnerable they are to the minor idiosyncrasies that with a twitch of the tail of the forces that drive the universe not only the Earth but the entire local galaxy could disappear in a cloud of heated gas or a surge of gamma rays from some other sector and the universe would continue on its development path with no notice whatsoever. At the moment the entire population of humans are hell bent on destroying the delicate balance of heat and light and organic relationships that permits them to exist. A sense of smallness and fragility would be a very healthy thing.

Srsly, people trying to deny reality are the ones making farfetched claims. The proof is everywhere. Unless you're seriously deluded, insane, and/or a doped moron, what is the sense in denying the existence of reality as we perceive it? Okay, if you want to disprove this reality, and show that it is an illusion, why don't you just hack into the Matrix/virtual reality and disconnect everyone? lololol Where is your proof that reality does not exist?

Sure, I agree. Imagine if you will that you are now a lower-conscience class mammal and you have two main motives, passion and fear. What are you going to do after you dine on that pigmy rat and the lion wants to dine on you next? --you aren't going to complain about how you are on WP and still a virgin and there was so much more of the world that you wanted to see, especially France, and as the lion's incisor pierces your left buttocks and the pressure is insurmountably discomforting and you ooze your last doo in his mouth while the world dims omniously dark and you think to yourself, "God, I hate my incontenence and my depends..."

Back thousands of years ago the pagans had numerous gods/goddesses that they would elect a percentage of their offspring to sacrifice and please them -imagine being one of the golden children? What if we only took a few moments to realize what our consequences of our actions would be rather than have a life of instant gratification.

But anyway, the best way to address these issues is logic. Prove to the people that what they propose or what they must accept are things that contradict their position.

It was directed at the thread starter, but also people who make similar obscure, bizarre threads all the time on here. Perhaps it's due to many aspies' despair at reality. Oh well, sucks to be that particular brand of aspie.
