The worst thing about religion
ok, so the world has been here millions of years. Humans have only been here thousands of years. But adam and eve were put here soon after the world was created apparently. That is impossible. I don't have to try and think of something to ask you, they are the facts. Which I don't think the author of the bible realised at the time ![]()
I do not understand the need for a concept when there is no proof. Religion should not be exempt from rational argument and neither should any other form of human thought.
I don't believe the logical discussion of a religion is a form of zealotry. Why is it a form of zealotry? Why is religion an untouchable idea?
If I told you it was my religion that the earth was 3,000 years old and created by a race of sentient lizards, you would ask me why I believe this. I would say that it is because of my faith and is not open to argument. I would be holding irrational opinions identical to those held by the religious.
How is it possible for some humans to understand "faith" and other snot to? Why do I not understand it? Am I being willfully ignorant of what is so apparent and obvious to the enlightened?
Maybe you are being wilfullly ignorant. But that's of lesser importance than the good things which we the faithful do in His name.
I don't know what you're arguing. If you're a young-Earth creationist, you believe that the Earth was created in six days and humans soon after. But the current scientific community holds that homo sapiens is thousands of years old but the Earth a matter of billions.

I've never said that religion is necessarily a force for evil or good. Do people do good things because of God? Does he provide a good example to them? Are people afraid not to do good?
People also do bad things in the name of god (Crusades, suicide bombings, Spanish Inquisition etc.).
Is not altruism a reward in itself regardless of whether religion or compassion motivates this altruism?

No I would say that you are being wilfully ignorant, you of faith need to realise that it is just that and nothing else. To tryand argue your faith in a rational manner does make you seem a bit silly. I dont want to ridicule faith, but you do leave yourself open to it when you try and use rational arguements that fly in the face of science, as we know it. And as for the good things you the faithfull do in his name, maybe you and a few others do good deeds, but I wouldnt lump yourself in with all the other selfserving bastards that share your faith. Personally if I were religious I would just say 'it does seem irrational but I have faith in my belief' no one can argue with you then.

No no no. You don't even sound as though you could pass a middle-school science class. The world is estimated to be billions of years old, not millions, and humans are estimated to have been around for 130,000-200,000 years. If you're going to try to play that card, at least get your numbers right.

millions is billions dumbfuck. You fail, you still haven't given an explination. That is in the beggining of the bible isn't it, on day 1 god said let there be light, and all that BS. Go on believing your fake religion. Haha, I pitty you.
Suicide-bombings, so-called "martyrdom", is a cowardly act done by weak-minded fools spurred by the carnal promise of 72 virgins. Rewarding murder & mayhem with the promise of afterlife nookie is the lowest things I've ever heard of, and you are a weak-minded fool if you believe this is representative of religion in general.

Crusades?
Spanish Inquisition?
What is representative of religion?
I'll also ask you to refrain from ad hominem attacks. The least we can do is maintain civility. Agreed?
Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, suicide bombings ... are these things more representative of human evil and human folly than of the religion(s) they profess? Jesus Christ certainly never preached anything like this. In fact, the teachings of Jesus Christ are in direct opposition to most of the activities of mankind. Think about it.
I agree. I think Jesus had some great ideas, I just think he was wrong about himself being the son of God. If people actually read the Bible and lived their lives along the lines suggested by Jesus, then Christianity would not have such a bad reputation for slaughter and bloodshed.
Does their religion seem to control this "human evil"? Not in the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition. So I ask if religion does not have the ability to control or influence its adherents, the why does the religion exist?
I have have no problem with "real" Christians. However most people are hypocrites and do not follow their religion as set out by Jesus in the Four Gospels or the Bible.
Thou shalt not kill.
And yet I see Christians in Iraq killing Muslims on their land. Is this Christian? What happened to being meek and turning the other cheek?

You're assuming all Christians are young-Earth creationists that treat Genesis as a history text. This is untrue.
