I don't see it as bad since it is the truth.

But, I also don't see it as strategic or wise to say on a campaign trail since that's giving the other side ammunition.

No, it's not "strategic" at all. We could debate whether it's the truth. I agree with you that an uncomfortable percentage of Trump supporters are racists, but I know from personal experience that many are not. Honesty, sometimes, is more important that content. People were fed up with the status quo and lying politicians. Trump could have dropped kicked a puppy down a flight of stairs, and still risen in the polls.

I wanted to start a thread asking would it be best if America split into 2 nations, but thought I would just post it here anyway.

I sometimes think they would be happier if they split into 2 nations using the Mason-Dixon line as a rough guide as to where the split should be.

Lincoln ended the Civil War the wrong way. He represented us Union boys great, but he also was the first of us to "compromise."

When the Nazis lost the war, the Germans didn't let them keep their flag and get to teach their version of why the war happened.

We never should have allowed the Confederates any freedoms at all after the war - it should have been outlawed to even show any sign of favoritism for them and their ways. Instead, we're back right where we started - Union and Confederate states.

For those who think this is harsh - this is what the Germans did to the Nazis and look how well they are today by comparison.

Confederates are America's Nazis.

To add: this isn’t a question of Democrat or Republican, there are Republicans who are similarly utterly disgusted with Confederates led by Trump and prior to him the Southern Strategy which hijacked the party.

Um... I really don't like the fact that you are calling Southerners Nazis because I DO live in the South and what we were doing during the American Civil War was nowhere as evil as what the Nazis were doing.

Yeah we had slaves, but it's not like the North treated black people any better than we did even after they were freed. Black people still had no rights up North and they were not legally given equal rights until almost 100 years later during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's (which started in the South btw).

Not to mention the fact that the reason the South still holds a grudge against the North is because they were the ones burning our towns and destroying our crops and leaving our people to starve to death in the elements and then you had carpetbaggers from up North who came down and took advantage of the devastation done to us by cheating people out of their property so that they could make a fortune.

The North treated us like dirt but because they were the ones who actually won the war they wrote themselves in History into being these wonderful saviours of the slaves and they even go as far as to say that they helped rebuilt the South out of pity and mercy which I think is a load of crap.

All the South wanted was to become their own country just like the U.S. itself did during the Revolutionary War when they were fighting the British over control of the original colonies.

So please do not EVER compare us to the Nazis!

No. I called CONFEDERATES - Nazis and I stand by what I said.

All Southerners were not Confederates and there were real heroes such as Newton Knight - a SOUTHERNER who saw the evils the Confederates were doing and he rose up AGAINST them. He wasn’t the only one too.

That people in the South were taught all Southerners were Confederates says a lot about why many see them as “heroes.” Confederates were monsters, but there were actual Southern HEROES who rose against them. I suggest researching the actual heroic legacy the South does have -

As said I called CONFEDERATES- Nazis, NOT Southerners BECAUSE contrary to what some Southern schools may want to “teach” - MANY Southerners were NOT Confederates and in fact fought AGAINST Confederates.

NEVER discard the real Southern heroic legacy by saying all were Confederates, that is what does the South and their real heroes a tremendous disservice.

I will never see a bunch of slave owning Confederates who treated people like s**t because they thought they were above them as anything other than America’s Nazis.

Well Confederates WERE the entire South at one point and they were not all evil. You have to understand that times were different back then and what is appalling to us now was completely normal back in those days. Slavery was considered acceptable and I don't agree with it at all but it was.

And you do realize this entire country was founded by people who stole land from the natives that were here first and even committed genocide on them? That had nothing to do with Confederates hell the Union was still oppressing the Native Americans long after the civil war ended. So I guess you can argue that you guys were like Nazis too considering that.

But seriously what you said was very offensive. I don't like the fact that there is a lot of racism in the South or the fact that I see Trump Supporters everywhere I go here but I would NEVER compare the Confederates to the Nazis. I would agree if you were talking about the KKK. But whatever I don't think people like you could possibly understand.

You just did it again “all were Confederates” - no, they were not - look up “Southern Unionist” my friend. That right there is your legacy in the South and you’re undermining it. Back in the day if you still had the ideology that you do today you wouldn’t be a Confederate - you’d be a Southern Unionist. So people did know and they did fight the Confederate cause, if this wasn’t the case people like New Knight wouldn’t have existed. They did. These people are the heroes. Actually I’d reckon more heroic than many Unionists because they had more to lose and put a lot more at risk.

Well I guess they did lose a lot considering that our states were all but destroyed after the war.

Then I feel sorry for Southern Unionists, but never Confederates.

And do Confederates the exact same history as Nazis? No. The Nazis faced war trials for their crimes against humanity, their flag was outlawed and their ideology was banned. Today many African Americans are still stuck with the Confederate ideology being alive and well today. Whereas ‘Man In The High Castle’ is a fantasy that never happened - the Nazis did go away, Confederates can’t have the same treatment and call it “fantasy” since the ideology is still ruining many lives in the present era and today that ideology resides in the white house.

Southern Unionists saw what was going on and fought Confederates. Today many in the South are STILL fighting Confederates and they decry Confederate ideology as a stain upon this country since they see Confederate and Southerner are not exchangeable terms they are very different.

Maybe you're right. I know that personally I hate seeing the Confederate flag everywhere because while some Southerners view it only as a symbol of pride and heritage most of the time it does get turned into a symbol of racism. Most of the people I know who wear the flag or wave it around are racist and I can also understand the fact is that we did have slaves and a lot of black people have the right to be very offended by that. But I think most of them are offended by the racism in this country as a whole because you have plenty of racism that goes on up North too.

There’s this one gaping hole in the “war of Northern agression” spin -

If the Confederate states never did have a poisonous ideology as many would like to claim today - that ideology would have went away and there would be no traces of it today.

But consistently whether they called themselves Democrats or Republicans those same states are still rooted in bigoted ideology.

Look at every battle for Civil Rights since then, the states that were the most against them (and still are) - belonged to the Confederacy. No matter which party they called themselves, that one thing remained constant.

That’s not to say all people in these states are evil, far from it - there are many Southern Unionists still today within these states. However, they are still sadly out numbered by Confederates who seek to reign supremacy over anyone different.

In Civil War time what history can only tell us is how Confederates treated blacks. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the most dangerous states to reside in if you were lgbtq as well - like they are today.

If that ideology isn’t there, many in these states wouldn’t have fought for supremacy during the Civil War and they wouldn’t be continuing to do so today.

As a minority, we learn something very young - there are just some state areas we should never go to because then our lives would be put at stake for the manner in which we were born.

If history and voting records show anything it’s that their ideology is supremacy for the white/straight/Christian and trying to enslave or oppress everyone who isn’t.

I should stress - again - I’m not talking Southerners, I’m talking Confederate ideology. No matter what party name they were under, one thing remained and remains constant - most of opposition to civil rights comes from these states.

Now either bigots just keep flocking to these states generation after generation OR the answer that isn’t a stretch - the ideology continues be passed down; with saying this some people/families have broken off or were always broken off from the herd.

Speaking of LGBTQ, back in those days if you were anything of the sort you would never admit to it and that was everywhere in this country (and most of the world too). Homosexuality was always kept a secret and I don't think the term was even invented back then. If you acted out on homosexual thoughts or practiced cross-dressing you were locked away in an asylum for the rest of your life because it was thought of as a mental illness. People who were gay either never married or got married anyways because it was expected but they still hid the truth about themselves.

We have come a long way since then which I am very thankful for.

And speaking as somebody who lives in Georgia it really depends on where you are.

Small rural towns are still very homophobic but big cities like Atlanta are more accepting of the LGBTQ community. In fact Atlanta is very big on civil rights and has a hugely diverse population of different types of people.
