Just because the northern states vote in favor of equal rights that doesn't mean that racism isn't a big issue up there too. I have met some very racist people from up north.

And I am a minority too. I'm a racially mixed homosexual atheist with a mental illness and autism. But frankly I don't think I would feel comfortable living in a place like New York because I know I would get bullied just for having a southern accent and not understanding the difference in food culture.

Racism is everywhere. I'm not saying it's not. I'm saying it's notably more prominent in the South and voting records and polls on political views consistently show that this is the case.

If you were white and had a deep Southern accent - probably.

Don't see any difference in food culture. If you mean barely any food on a plate, that's only really really high end NYC and LA restaurants.

The progressive image of New York is misleading to a certain degree. Progressives get elected here because of the population dominence of New York City. Most counties in New York voted for Trump and the suburbs of New York are more segregated then most places in the South. You do not see and hear as much open racism as in the 70’s. I used to hear n****r, spic, fag etc come up in casual conversation plenty of times. Archie Bunker was a fictional charactor based on New Yorkers. Boston has had a progressive image for a long time yet when they tried busing to desegregate the schools in the 70’s there were two years of large scale boycotts, violent protests and racial attacks.

Has there been a real change in thinking over the past 40+ years or is is just muzzled by political correctness? Changing demographics argue for the former' Trump’s election and all that has ensued argues for the latter.

I think it's the political correctness. Like I have said from personal experience I know plenty of racist people from up north. There is a lot of racism in the south too but I think it gets greatly exaggerated on TV.

Like take Atlanta for example. People from up north have a misconception about Atlanta being as backwoods and ignorant as the rest of Georgia but I have visited the city many times and it is a very progressive city when it comes to civil rights. They always promote the idea of equality and tolerance everywhere you go and they are very proud of it. They have many museums about the civil rights movement and monuments dedicated to the leaders in the movement.

Actually, never saw Atlanta that way nor really heard of it spoken that way.

Granted, I'm in the film industry and we have a really strong relation to Georgia.

I think it's a pretty general belief that cities are liberal whereas rural areas are less no matter the state.

Someone could state a city that someone hasn't heard of before and due to that they might think it's backwoods - but, generally, if it's a city most know it's a melting pot and a safe zone.

Well I often see Atlanta get depicted that way on TV. Like in that episode of Futurama where the city sunk underwater and all the citizens became mermaids like in a parody of Atlantis. They made it seem like there was nothing special about the city and that it was full of hicks compared to New York City.

So people did know and they did fight the Confederate cause, if this wasn’t the case people like New Knight wouldn’t have existed. They did. These people are the heroes. Actually I’d reckon more heroic than many Unionists because they had more to lose and put a lot more at risk.

Well I guess they did lose a lot considering that our states were all but destroyed after the war.

Then I feel sorry for Southern Unionists, but never Confederates.

And do Confederates the exact same history as Nazis? No. The Nazis faced war trials for their crimes against humanity, their flag was outlawed and their ideology was banned. Today many African Americans are still stuck with the Confederate ideology being alive and well today. Whereas ‘Man In The High Castle’ is a fantasy that never happened - the Nazis did go away, Confederates can’t have the same treatment and call it “fantasy” since the ideology is still ruining many lives in the present era and today that ideology resides in the white house.

Maybe you're right. I know that personally I hate seeing the Confederate flag everywhere because while some Southerners view it only as a symbol of pride and heritage most of the time it does get turned into a symbol of racism. Most of the people I know who wear the flag or wave it around are racist and I can also understand the fact is that we did have slaves and a lot of black people have the right to be very offended by that. But I think most of them are offended by the racism in this country as a whole because you have plenty of racism that goes on up North too.

The us flag is the same then. Racist wave it around and wear it too, and some on the left says it repersents oppression and racism, the football plays refuse to stand for it. So does the Union Jack flag, it represents empire and oppression, slavery. As does Canada’s flag, frances, Germany, any western nations flag. Japan’s flag is one of a world conquering empire that killed thousands of millions, then there’s Russia’s flag. what about China’s flag?
All flags are horrible to someone m so should we just ban flags world wide?
Clearly the USA and western nations shouldn’t have a flag as any flag to others will represent opression and racism.

Is there any country on this planet that hasn't committed atrocities? Neither Americans nor any other country wave their country's flag in people's face as a way of rubbing in oppression but I get the feeling most people who wave around the Confederate flag do so just to rub it in the face of black people who hate the flag.

Spooky_Mulder had a point but I really don't understand your point. :?

The people who view the us flag as a as oppression think the same of people waving it around as you do the confederate flag. You don’t and can’t have any idea of why people wear it or fly it. You don’t read minds, your just making assumptions that they must be racist cause they wear or fly it.
You shouldn’t do that. You would t like others making assumptions about you.
I use to like the confederate flag and it had nothing to do with racism.
Lots people think the us flag is horrible and anyone who flies it is horrible and supports oppressing people. Doesn’t make it true.

I don't assume, I know for a fact that many people who wear the flag are racist.

I grew up in Georgia and have been around many rednecks wearing Confederate flag t-shirts and hats and having the flags hanging on their property. Believe me when I say these people hate black people and anybody else who isn't a white natural born U.S. citizen. I should know because there are several people like this in my own family.

It would be OK if the flag was just a symbol of southern heritage and pride but when you have members of the KKK displaying it that should give you a clue as to what it has really turned into.

Yeah but it's not the only TV show that portrays the people of Atlanta as being a bunch of hicks.

And another funny thing is whenever I see Atlanta on TV they always show a bunch of old plantation houses surrounded by trees like in Designing Women or the episodes of The Golden Girls where Blanche would visit her family in Atlanta. Never the tall skyscrapers with graffiti on the walls and the packed traffic everywhere you look like it looks in real life.

Ah. Must not have noticed then. The second's how I've always viewed it. Then again, I know the industry and how often we rely on Atlanta as a shooting location.

Yeah Atlanta really looks just like any other big city in the U.S. but on TV they always try to make it look like something out of Gone With The Wind.

Well, typically. But a lot of the time Atlanta is shown without necessarily saying that it is Atlanta. Baby Driver being one of the latest films that depicted it as a normal metropolis.

To be fair, it's unsure at this point whether or not Trump colluded with the Russians which would include disseminating fake news through Facebook. However, if he did it was in no way the same. One is grassroots, the other is a foreign agency hellbent on fear-mongering.

The criminality of the Democrat machine knows no limits:

Jackson Cosko: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Jackson Cosko, who calls himself a “Democratic Political Professional” with cybersecurity expertise, is accused of multiple crimes for allegedly doxxing Republican Senators during the Brett Kavanaugh/Christine Blasey Ford hearings.

The United States Capitol Police arrested the suspect, saying he allegedly “posted private, identifying information (doxing) about one or more United States Senators to the internet,” a statement said.

According to Legistorm, he worked for U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and previously worked for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA). A September 2018 letter from Sheila Jackson Lee (D -TX) identified him as a staffer for her office at that time. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is a member of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. (A different person working for Hassan was the intern suspended for shouting F*** you at President Donald Trump recently.)

Jackson Lee’s office identified Cosko as an intern and was fired because of the accusations.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Jackson Cosko Was Accused of Everything From Witness Tampering to Identity Theft

The doxxing suspect was identified as Jackson A. Cosko, age 27, of Washington D.C. He was initially charged with making public restricted personal information; witness tampering; threats in interstate communications; unauthorized access of a government computer; identity theft; second-degree burglary and unlawful entry. You can read the Capitol police press release here.

The statement said the “investigation will continue and additional charges may be forthcoming.” ...

Let's see - most people the United States loathe your orange fuhrer. Meanwhile most of the people in the United States don't hate Obama.

It's not bias - it's simply that the majority of the people in this country don't agree with your love for an orange turd.

The number of conservatives who don't understand capitalism is utterly baffling. It's called supply and demand. Stores feature the books that sell the most. Most people loathe Trump, most people don't loathe Obama; thus - common sense - the highest bought Trump books are anti-Trump while the highest bought Obama books are pro-Obama. Thus, put the featured highest selling books out front. This is really all just capitalism 101. Simply supply and demand economics.

Stores aren't in it to protect snowflake Trump supporter feelings - they're in it to make $$$$$.
