I got a jug of apple juice from the local food bank awhile back and there was no label on it.Sometimes they are damaged or removed. It was the best tasting apple juice I’ve ever had.Not watery and with a rich apple flavor.I was curious where it came from ,so looked for the country of origin stamp and it was Ukraine.Hands down the best ever.No idea how it wound up at a food bank in rural Arkansas.

Poland has electricity.
Ukraine has apples.

There's nothing wrong with that, Fnord, even as the conflict rages on. Love your enemy, even as you plunge your sword into him.

Many of the Russian conscripts want nothing to do with killing women and children.
You would have to be very hard-hearted not to realise the tragedy on both sides because of one psychopath.

Not all Germans were Nazis in WWII, btw. 8)

It's not so easy to get rid of 150 thousands of foreign soldiers but they're working on it.

:D

Flipped my sarcastic script. Nice.

Definitely not easy. Fortunately they have will on their side.. and almost the entire world supplying arms & some key volunteers.

And also a developed world in need of skilled immigrants should the end result be that a lot of people need to relocate. I Know Canada sure does - our labour market is super screwed. We’d be blessed to import as many skilled hands as we can. Ideally Ukraine is salvageable and people can stay and live peacefully. But if not..

There will be time enough for that after Ukraine wins the war.

We all know that as we speak Putin is in the Kremlin in handcuffs being held hostage by Hillary Clinton...who has a gun to his head forcing him to do all of this. "Go after the women children ESPECIALLY!" she cackles while forcing him against his will to order, and conduct, the invasion!

It is a 1993 cover of Spy magazine.  Offensive?

I don't feel offended... just... confused. It looks extraordinarily stupid.

Spy magazine, the lefty satire rag run by Graydon Carter (now running Vanity Fair magazine) and Kurt Andersen (now hosting the pretentious arts program Studio 60 on NPR stations on the weekends). The magazine debuted in 1986 and died in 1998.

Feminist critic Caryl Rivers blamed the right wing for this cover: “The right wing, which likes its women silent and subservient, hates Hillary Clinton with the passion of junior-high bullies…The right’s loathing of a bright woman rubbed off on the mainstream press. The next phase of Hillary bashing cast her as either bad wife or bad feminist.... Spy magazine put Hillary Clinton on its cover in a black studs-and-leather dominatrix outfit, holding a riding crop, with the headline WHAT HILLARY PROBLEM?”

The cover is either making fun of the Clintons, or making fun of the folks who were hysterically critical of the Clintons back then. Could be either thing- given the political scene in America back then.

My office assistant is now in Spain, teaching Spanish to the Ukrainian children of refugee families in Spain. I am so proud of her.

I learned about a new word in Ukrainian language:
макронити (makroniti, "to Macron") - to make a big show about how you care yet do nothing that could actually help.

I watched a news report, where the reporter commented on how the telephone network was down (in Mariupol, I think) and demonstrated by trying a call.

The recorded voice said, in English, "All the telephone systems are down owing to the invasion, and if you're calling from Russia - go f**k yourself".

Yep. :thumright:
