The sea provides the additional acceleration due to buoyancy. A cube could float, but it would be highly unstable and all cargo would have to be near the bottom making the upper decks wasted space.

Sure....... :P

Yes, on which part are you saying "sure" too? If weight were distributed evenly among the 7 decks of the Sumerian ark, then the center of gravity would also be at the center of the cube. If I remember correctly, a side of that cube would have been 120 cubits or about 180 feet in length, so the center of gravity would be 90 feet from the base of 180 feet. On the ark in Genesis, the dimensions, in cubits, would be 300L x 50W x 30H. If weight were distributed evenly for each of the three decks, then the center of gravity would be about 22.5 feet from the base of 75 feet.

Dude, you're just missing a Borg reference made by the Sumerians.

All interpreters are equally valid, and I interpret the Sumerian boat as a Borg reference, therefore it is.

Firstly, the Epic of Gilgamesh isn't Babylonian, it's Sumerian. Second, the ark in the Sumerian account has the dimensions of a cube versus the Biblical one which is actually seaworthy.

So what. The entire Noah Story is just a tale. It has no basis in scientifically corroberated fact. For starters there is not nor was there ever enough water in the atmosphere of this planet for rain to fall and cover the entire surface. Second of all the dimensions of the Ark are not large enough to hold prototypes of all the plant and animal life currently existing on earth. Third, there is no physical evidence that such a flood (world wide) ever took place. In a word, the story is fiction with a moral.

ad hoc: God is all powerful.

Intellectually refutal:
Quote:
The animals could not have fitted inside.’ Yes, they could. There was not as much variety within species then as there is now, and many of the representatives would have been immature and therefore quite small.

Quote:

ad hoc: Several written text over the world about a flood, proves it happened and proves my theology correct.
And by the way, evolution is crap because it contradicts my faith, the flood works according to my theology, therefore it is the truth, and God is beyond intellectual honesty.

Greenblue: the ad hoc is actually the notion that the geographically ubiquitous flood legends spawn independently. That they cover the globe suggests, not proves, that there was a global flood; it merely lends credence. Why are you going so beyond what is actually said and mimicking and mocking also?

Where is the geological evidence that there was ever a global flood that covered the whole Earth? As ruveyn said, there was never enough water in the atmosphere to rain down a flood that could of covered the whole of the Earth's surface.

If God could create the entire universe with a snap of His fingers, why must there be a logical justification for the amount of water in the flood? God is all powerful and he could make every description by every culture indicate there was a flood even if the people all lived in a dry desert. Why is there all this nonsense about establishing a scientific geological basis for a flood caused by God to kill all sinners when he could have had them all simultaneously killed by lightening or suffocated by a huge crash of a meteor made of potato chips or crushed by volcanic eruptions of ball bearings or any other damned impossible thing religious people want to believe? You simply cannot argue with people who are totally delusive. Why bother?

How can there be any geological evidence? The laws of physics, including the mechanisms of forming any geological evidence, do not apply.

Doesn't it t sound too honest if the faith heads admit they believe in anything outrageous without the need of justification?

I think I'm pushing myself towards stridency lately, however not strident atheism necessarily, and I don't fit in there anyway. Also, perhaps I'm not that good at playing devil's advocate with this, as I don't see how can anyone actually defend this position without resorting to ad hocs and practically religious reasons.

But there is a point on this, my point is that I am illustrating the basic reason for rejecting empirical evidence in favor of a preconceived belief as well as defending a preconceived belief without empirical evidence, and practically the basic reason is your faith, and that is it, because the way I see it, is that accepting evolution implicates violating some principles, I can even say that accepting evolution for you can be like, betraying God, so the reason for that, is not all intellectual and I highly doubt that a creationist can possibly defend a theory that is considered invalid which conforms with their theology with actual intellectual honesty,

But you are right though, I'm going beyond what actually needs to be said and what actually needed to be said was ruveyn's post which seems more credible.

As far as the find of Noah's Ark and the possibility of a hoax, only time will tell, but I do have to wonder what their reason for doing it was. To pull off something like that would have cost a fortune. What would be their gain for doing it? I mean, the alien autopsy guy made a fortune selling video tapes. The Chinese guys just posted it on youtube. Where are they making their money off the hoax if it is one?

As far as the spider web, it could have been left by one of the two spiders that were aboard the ark.

On another note, I wonder if anyone here has brought up the Mid Atlantic Ridge theory. If not, I will briefly describe it here. Basically, it is believed that when the Earth was formed, it was formed with the waters separated from the mantle in layers. Thus, it had a core of iron or whatever at the center, surrounded by a core of ice, and then finally surrounded by a crust. I may have left a few layers out, but you get the idea. As the pressure built up on the ice from the crust, the ice gradually melted leaving the mantle floating on the core of water. Over time, a rift developed at the point that is now called the Mid Atlantic Ridge. The land mass literally split down the middle and the pressure from the escaping water sprayed upwards and then down again producing rain. This split the single continent into what we have now and as the moving crust hit the central hard core as the water depleted, it caused mountain ranges to be formed parallel to the Mid Atlantic Ridge. The theory fits the Biblical story exactly as it says that the waters came from the deep.

So I just thought I would throw that one out there.

If Noah took a DNA sample of a male and a female of each plant and animal, there would have been plenty of room. When the flood was over he simply used the cloning equipment on the ark to restock all of the species again. (Explains the problems of feeding the animals too.)

About the food, they could recycle food, so the waste wouldn't be waste but a resource so they will never be out of food or perhaps just by the use of replicators, however that and the DNA job could only be possible with alien technology and the ark may not be made of wood but either an alien or future artifact as well.

If the borg theory is true then perhaps the rest of humanity were assimilated by the borg and Noah and his family were the only survivors on earth, I can speculate that problably they got help from the Federation.
