Well- thats kinda my point. You can name a team after a White ethnic group ( French Canadians) so why not after Indians?
Im being the devil's advocate. I do have to admit that "Redskins" is a pretty dumb ( to say the least) name for a team.

Because it's really not the same. Our culture is white-dominated, and does not have a history of institutional prejudice or genocide against whites. That is why "n****r" is much more offensive than "cracker."

Anyways, I would probably avoid naming a team after any ethnic group. I've heard enough racist jokes directed at the Irish, and we don't need to continue perpetuating racial stereotypes of any kind.

Two wrongs don't make a right, if you think its not okay to try offend black people, then you should demonstrate the same courtesy to whites. Both terms you used are offensive.

You missed those last two sentences there. Why would I try to offend whites? I am white. But the point isn't that one is right, and the other is wrong. Both are wrong, but one is worse.

Why must one be worse? They are both essentially the same action towards different groups, the punishment for each should be in accord. Unless of course you approve of certain racial groups having more protections than others.

It's because liberals are not for equality, they want people to feel like victims and that government will enable them to get revenge on the those that supposedly victimized them. Liberals want to continue the cycle and use people to get more and more power.

An attack against the traditionally oppressed, or anyone in a weak position, is more despicable than an attack against someone in a strong or privileged position who cannot be harmed by it anyways.

Um... right. I'm an upper-middle-class heterosexual white male Protestant who feels "victimized" by systemic racism and want "revenge" on some unnamed entity.

Quit projecting, you loon.

Why does the name Florida State Seminoles offend Indians?

I think that the author is using a bit of a strawman argument.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_Ame ... ontroversy

The Seminoles of Florida actually have close ties with Florida State University. Moreover,

Quote:
The Seminole Tribe of Florida officially sanctions the use of the Seminole as Florida State University’s nickname and of Chief Osceola as FSU's mascot.

Some Seminoles in Oklahoma, however, object. And, I can see why. "They didn't want us in that state, and forced us from our homes, so why should they carry on this stupid minstrel show about us?"

Nonsense you can't hold history as relevant to equality then it all falls on its head.(eg, your race enslaved mine, and my race created the telephone) It's extremely counter productive. and are the strong not deserving of protection? And inuyasha has a point if you allow one race to gain too many rights the formerly oppressed become the new oppressors leading into a cycle which could easily be solved by treating all equally.

I'm just to the point of enough already, and yeah there is such a thing as going too far on things. Has anything changed in inner cities from all these left wing social programs, nope.

What social programs are there for "empowering" people by assisting them to be dependent?

I think black-and-white axiomatized moral thinking is a problem. It's too simplistic to claim that both sides are equal when they are not.

That line of thinking is used to justify racism and any other form of bigotry.

If all men are held equally all men must be treated equally, is this an acceptable statement for you? And when you are saying that something is unequal what are you saying is unequal and why is that unequal?

History is relevant. I'm not talking about bringing up every centuries-old grudge, but there are plenty of cases where the effect is still felt. There is still well-documented racism against blacks and other minorities in this country.

Quote:
and are the strong not deserving of protection?

They generally don't need it. When they do need it, they should have it. But when one ethnic group is already in a dominant position in society, and has been for our entire history, we aren't really in any danger of them suddenly becoming oppressed.

Quote:
And inuyasha has a point if you allow one race to gain too many rights the formerly oppressed become the new oppressors leading into a cycle which could easily be solved by treating all equally.

I have no idea what you think you're talking about, but it has no relation to my argument at all. Everyone should have the same rights. And do you really believe blacks are going to become the new oppressors of whites? Are you that pathetic and frightened and paranoid?
