Arbeit Macht Frei, ja?
I don't speak German(or whatever it is you are typing here).
I don't speak German either. Arbeit Macht Frei is a famous phrase that was posted at the entrance to Auschwitz and other concentration camps. It translates to "Work will make you free" or "work liberates."

When the government's official policy is that there must be a Reserve Army of Labour, the unemployed, and that this army must be a certain size at a given time, and then the government resolves to make sure that those in its Reserve Army of Labour are living as uncomfortably as possible and as close to subsistence as possible presumably to deter people from being part of this Reserve Army of Labour that they themselves created as a matter of policy, well, that's very, very wrong. Making people live as uncomfortably as possible is punishment... punished for being caught in a trap that the government policy created.
Are you addressing me? Because I have not suggested or implied most of the traits in this post, I'm not going to bother addressing even that as it would imply that you had made a somewhat accurate appraisal of my arguments, which you have not. I'll respond to your posts again when you show you are willing to argue against me and not some imagined figure that you apparently think I emulate.
Most people don't know that it has been government policy throughout the OECD since 1980 thereabouts to have an official Reserve Army of Labour and if the unemployment rate dips below this pre-ordained level they cry "The economy is overheating! The economy is overheating!" and cause unemployment. Even now the European Central Bank says that there needs to be more unemployment, that this is required because of the higher food and fuel costs.
The logic of the workhouse, that people on assistance must be punished, that is something that is even more wrong when there's a deliberate policy to create and maintain unemployment.
What you understand as "welfare" must be torn down and done away with.
It doesn't work.
If in any way we allocate tax dollars to help people in need, the funds should go to PRIVATE CHARITIES, who BY LAW can determine how to best use the money in their communities. They funds must be subjected to fiduciary accounting standards, annual audit, and public inspection at any time. Charities would have to be subject to oversight, and the public must be free to file complaints against charities they feel are not using funds responsibly.
There must also be a bar against litigation for any claim of "discrimination" or it just won't work.
The reason why private charities are more effective than government welfare is because government, by using public funds, are subject to the insane rules dealing with equal opportunity and discrimination. Private charities can discriminate all they want in who gets helped. If people don't approve, they won't keep giving them money.

I'm sorry what? What discrimination laws are hampering the welfare system? Privatized charities are as bureaucratically weighed down as public charity(welfare). Also private charities are not outlawed so do you mean to subsidize them? Or are you suggesting that we leave the poor to the whims of their employed brothers. What benefits are you suggesting private charity has over public, also what do you think I consider welfare, and why won't it work as I have said it should.
Your baring of discrimination laws just opens the door for people to donate based on race perpetuating any existing economic racial disparity, what justification do you have for this? Private charities cannot discriminate any way they wish, your assertion that equal protection is the weakness of the welfare system is unfounded and smells of racism.
Rigghtt...
And I am a dragon...
Charities actually usually do a better job in relief for the poor, they did a pretty good job in cleaning up Nashville apparently and the Government didn't provide much in the way of aid. Guess cause it was white people the Government didn't care about them, and yeah I am implying that the Obama White House is racist.
DAYTON — The city’s Civil Service Board and the U.S. Department of Justice have agreed on a lower passing score for the police recruit exam after it was rejected because not enough blacks passed the exam.

Changing the rules cause not enough people of a certain race passed, wth.
Then there is the New Black Panther's Case.
OK, I really did not want to wade through all the commentary, so I'll just contribute to the debate to the best of my ability.
WARNING: Ensuing centrist rant.
NEITHER AMERICAN PARTY IN POWER RESPECTS THE DAMNED CONSTITUTION!
The Republican party says they care about the constituition, but then they try to oppress dissent by labeling the dissenters Communists, Godless Heathens, Socialists, Welfaremongers, and other things that I will not say here. Then the Democratic party claims to be for the little guy, but then they try to take away the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms. The Republicans only care about your rights if you are a rich christian, and the dems only care about your rights if you agree with them. Neither party cares about the poor and disenfranchised. The Dems claim to care about the poor to buy their votes. Then what do you guys make of the Free speech zones at the DNC and RNC? Both parties just have a craving for money and power.
But in the words of the immortal Dennis Miller, That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

That is true enough, but the Bill of Rights is still intact (or mostly so).

You lack the experience from INSIDE the system to see what works and what doesn't work.
Currently, a private charity is accountable to a higher standard than welfare programs are.
If they squander money, people won't support them. Public welfare gets support regardless of how effective they are or how well they handle finances.
Private charities typically get 80% of the money donated into the hands of those in need. Public welfare is lucky if 25% gets to those in need.
Private charities can give to whomever they deem worthy. They can deny benefits to anyone, for any reason, without having to justify it. Since no public monies are involved, you can't sue a charity for not giving your money or admitting you to a program. Public welfare has tons of rules all designed to ensure benefits are racial, gender, ethnic-neutral. Nice in concept, flawed in execution. Lots of welfare people are just looking for a quick score. The rule say they should not get anything, but no con artist is going to openly admit to scamming the system. It is up to a case manager to "discern" if someone is sincere in wanting/needing help or if they are a scamming the system. This is something best determined on a subjective level because many case managers know who the scammers are, but they don't have the authority or resources to go out and do what is needed to prove it to a standard that would hold up in a court of law. Try and deny most scammers benefits and the first thing they do is make it an issue of race, gender or ethnicity and get a lawyer.
You might not accept this, but that's the way it goes. So much of the public welfare state is eaten up by bureaucratic mismanagement, but those doing the work have to deal with those wanting something for nothing. In my area, so many work to get a disability check as soon as they can be classified as "disabled." Doesn't matter if they can work 40 hours a week and bring in a respectable paycheck in spite of having a disability. It's their gravy train...an excuse to get government cheese and make someone else support them while they sit about watching TV or working on jigsaw puzzles, fishing, hunting, etc. These people ruin it for those who legitimately cannot work and need assistance because of the insane resistance to giving benefits to people who apply...all designed to frustrate the dishonest people...but it ultimately frustrates the honest people instead because scammers keep pushing until they get what they want.
Private charities have a lot more operational latitude in deciding if and how much someone gets assistance for. They can mandate people do something to earn their benefits rather than constantly get a handout. Every time government-run aid tries to reform operations, it's a political poop-storm...all because tax monies are being used.
If we funded private operations with tax money but wanted them to operate freely, there would have to be legal bans against litigation or the lawsuits from every scammer out there looking for a score would put them out of business within a matter of months. I worked for a private organization managing a government program....we had to abide by all the government rules and regulations on how the program was run. The only benefit to it being a contract of the non-profit company was that we (the staff) were paid a whole lot less than a dedicated government employee.
