Best way to be.

So you admit that ignoring it is best, and do so by starting a thread on the topic?

This has turned into a debate and as such is going to PPR.

I just wanted to point out what causes a lot of the arguments on this site.

Shall we just put every thread in the PPR?

Sure, why not?

PPR in every pot (er, post! )

I would love that. PPR is the greatest thing since WP!

Whats the deal with pot? It is bad because society has brainwashed you into thinking its bad. Do you have the same views on alcohol and tobacco?

He thinks that because he couldn't maintain sane levels of smoking, and because he drove around stoned (thereby expressing careless disregard for others and himself), and because whatever f**** he used to hang out with also went down the stupid road, nobody else should be allowed to smoke pot

@benjaminbreeg: I do take issue with people being disrespectful, but when it is being done in response to personal slights, I don't see much wrong with it
You mostly got jumped on because you turned peoples words around in weak attempts at trying to insult them. There are reasonable ways to argue about the legalization/decriminalization issue, and you followed none of them

I think you're just being blind to the fact you're biast towards pot and its smokers. I attacked drugs, people attacked me. Before I "turned people's words around". So I can't see how you and your friends attacking me cause you didn't like my views, is reasonable. I just defended myself, which isn't always easy when its 4/5 against 1.

:? I'm biased against irresponsible pot smokers, like you were, if anything. Believing that legalization is the solution, and offering sound reasons why I believe that, does not imply bias. And from the beginning, pretty much, you were rude to people. Your bias is grounded in your bad experiences and choices, and your disregard for others. I don't expect you're going to acknowledge that, so I'll leave you be, because I really could care less what some drooler who drives around burning joints, disregarding the lives of others, and disrespecting others in discussion, thinks. That, is bias :)

You seem obsessed about what I used to do, why don't you have as your sig "benjimanbreeg used to drive while stonned" Somehow that makes my views unworthy to you, and its the only thing you have to go on. People make mistakes, thats good if you've not made any in your life. Doing mushrooms or heroin is hugely irresponsible, especially mushrooms or acid if you're not gonna have someone sober looking out for you, I didn't see you raise any concern about others doing that in the thread. And with hal and tea saying what you put in your body is up to you, well it is. But when you start stealing off your family and commiting roberry to feed your habit, it isn't.

I don't remember anyone mentioning mushrooms or acid (not denying it probably happened), but both of those are less harmful then opiates or alcohol. Actually psilocybin is proven to be the only real way to treat cluster headaches effectively, and both of those substances have been shown to have benefits in treating mental illness. Unfortunately, Dr Timothy Leary burned himself out and in the process gave research into psychedelic therapy an extremely bad name with his lunacy. I don't really think recreational use of hallucinogens is wise, however

Also I am certainly not obsessed by what you 'used to do'- nor is it the only 'thing I have to go on' I think people who act irresponsibly in that manner and try and blame it on drugs are shirking their own problems. You have to have a certain ingrained level of disregard to think driving around stoned is okay (at the time), or claiming that people should be 'harshly punished' simply for being high on cannabis (that initial comment is what outraged people, btw- you can try and act like you think its alright to sometime smoke a joint here or there, but that initial comment seems to imply otherwise). I really do think you have disregard for others and your opinion on feminism, cannabis, and comments towards different users supports that. Sorry mate

I've made my own mistakes, but never, ever have I put others lives or emotions at risk doing them.

It's a total control thing. People think that illegal drugs are "wrong" and legal ones are "fine" because of brainwashing in societies, governemnts and schools. This earth is owned by all of us, and they have no right to ban a plant. Flat out no right. It exists naturally. I've never smoked pot but I would not feel guilty if I did.

People poison themselves on a daily basis with alcohol, misuse it, and then get raped and sh**. You honestly can't say thats better than pot.

You're absolutely right. Side effects from stopping regular overuse of alcohol can include seizures and death. Side effects from stopping regular overuse of Cannabis can include extreme boredom and sleeplessness... I guess that's about it

I was an "everyday burner". This means I was high off my ass from about 6pm until I went to bed every single weekday and from sunrise to sundown on the weekends. I did this for the entire last two years I was in college. I graduated with a 3.85 GPA.

I slowed down once I had to start working a day job for a living, and dropped the habit entirely about 7 years ago and never once felt the slightest pangs of withdrawal (though I do miss it occasionally).

Pot-smoker does not automatically = irresponsible.

I actually know some people who smoke every day and are doing quite well in education- Montreal has a big Cannabis culture and I think most people in this city probably partake once in a while.

What I deem irresponsible pot smoking is when you drive around under the influence, or are incapable of taking care of the necessities in life, or neglect important things to get high- pretty much applies to any mind-altering substance

I never said it did. But it definitely clouds your judgement. I remember this guy I used to work with, when he was smoking it a lot, he was so intense and a prick, but when he stopped, he was a changed person, so much calmer and nicer. For Vil to claim that the only side effects to pot are tiredness and laziness is an example of very clouded judgement. When I said that people who are stonned should be arrested, I meant the kind that are walking around like corpses, people get arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Yeah, and thats the thing with pot, its not addictive in that way. But its very habit forming, and if someone really relies on it, they can't function without it. But if you really want to stop, its pretty easy.

I'm not suprised daily pot smokers do well with their studies, probably studying art untill the age of 50, and then retiring.

That was a joke, hence why I put
You could also say that smoking regularly isn't good for one's lungs

Maybe you should have stated that you only think people 'walking around like corpses' should be arrested, instead of claiming that there needs to be a harsh punishment simply for being stoned. Either way, I'm not buying your attempts to weasel out of this one

My husband smokes nearly every night and just got a raise at work today.

No, he's not an artist. He's a programmer for a small company that makes cell phone apps.

Yep, people can smoke every day and still succeed at life.
And not only in the arts, as Mr. Breeg snidely insinuates with his last comment

My judgement seemed fine. My degree wasn't in something that didn't require judgement or analysis like mathematics, I was constantly applying several years of study to evaluations and critiques of literature. I graduated with honors, and was stoned the entire time.

What I don't think you realize is that different people react to things in different ways. If someone has a tendency to be a prick, or a zombie, then marijuana is going to make it easier for them to be that way. It can loosen your mindset and make you care less about how you are perceived by others. (Wait, doesn't this sound like something useful for aspies?)
