Further the condemnation of homosexual acts is in the Old Testament as well not just the Gospel.

I didn't say that was the case, I said Rome but I also said other pagan cultures, and given that we were talking about Christianity, that was a fine example, and the fact that Paul was a roman, and he wrote against homosexuality on the NT, that is not to say that the OT didn't condemn homosexuality and that there was no pagan cultures practicing homosexuality in the OT era.

I recall the Bible passage about throwing stones thank you kindly. You left out the part about Jesus telling her to go and sin no more.

I never got into that, so that is irrelevant.

Given that I consider myself to be liberal, does this mean that you are willing to say to my face, and back it up, that I am not tolerant, and have shown no true caring for others?

You can't make that statement unless you are willing to make it personal to every last one of us, so I'm making it personal. Can you really tell me that directly? Do you really believe it?

Here's some science on why the notion of homosexuality being a lifestyle is BS since the obvious fact that no one woke up one morning and decided to be homosexual isn't enough for em:
http://men.webmd.com/features/5-things- ... your-penis

Quote:
You've probably noticed that your penis often does its own thing. You may remember times when it was completely inappropriate to have an erection; and yet you couldn't wish it away.

It's true that you have less command over your penis than body parts like your arms and legs. That's because the penis answers to a part of the nervous system that's not always under your conscious control. This is called the autonomic nervous system, which also regulates heart rate and blood pressure.

Sexual arousal usually isn't voluntary. The conscious mind is complicit in it, but a lot of sexual arousal goes on in the sympathetic nervous system. In addition, impulses from the brain during the REM phase of sleep cause erections, whether you're dreaming about sex or about a test you forgot to study for. Heavy lifting or straining to have a bowel movement can also produce an erection.

Wow... um... hmm.

It's nice to see people like to make s**t up to justify bigotry.

There was no Greek word for 'homosexuality' back in those days. All they knew was pederasty. Those New Testament verses you are referencing are against PEDERASTY, not homosexuality. There is no reference to homosexuality in the Gospels.

You are also talking only about men. There is one lesbian reference in the Bible and it was thought they they were just included with the men as a blanket reference to all Pagans.

And if it is such a sin, why is it mentioned only sparingly then?

What does this have to do with homosexuality, or sexual and romantic attraction in general? Arousal != attraction.
We are all born with a sin nature, but no one is born committing a sin. We're all born such that we are lying and stealing by the age of three. But later, many of us learn to curb those impulses significantly. That covers sin nature.

People can, of course, be born with a neurological impediment – it happens all the time. And they can surely be born with an impediment that, as it happens, can serve to present its possessor with a specific choice later in life: that between the homosexual and heterosexual mindsets and lifestyles. The neurological defect is, of course, not sin. Neither does it cause sin.
Rather, it serves to present such individuals with a decision as to whether they wish to give into their predilection, or to choose to resist it. One of those two options is forbidden by God, according to Romans 1:26.

And that is the hard-to-see way in which homosexuality and sin are connected.

(The easy-to-see way is when a person “turns gay” after a lifetime of genuine heterosexual disposition.)
What about when a person turns religious after a lifetime of of a downward spiral, then when they completely lose the plot, they find god?

Actually, yeah. Some new testament tenants make so little sense, you can't be honest with yourself and see them as valid. You have to approach it from a "faith" standpoint, and that's it. If you try to back it up with logic, it falls apart, so you need a lot of garbage to hold it together.

There was a point in my life where I argued against such garbage. Not anymore. If someone wants to pull s**t out of their ass to make themselves feel superior, then more power to them.

Just don't expect me to have a sudden epiphany and say "You know what? You're so right! I think I'm going to seek a conversion therapist right now. Can you recommend one?"

Just out of curiosity, is making insinuations about the sexuality of anyone who says anything anti-gay the only tool in the cupboard of the online gay rights movement? It seems to happen every time one of these threads comes up, and it sorta takes me back to middle school.

That's because it's proven true over and over and over again. It's practically a law that if a politician or religious leader campaigns against gays, he's going to be caught with a gay prostitute, or soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom, or driving drunk on the way home from a gay bar, or tied up in a wetsuit with a banana up his rectum after having strangled himself to death (off the top of my head). If he campaigns against infidelity, you can bet he's having an affair with his campaign manager's wife or someone else equally inappropriate.

It's happened many times, but more often than not, anti-gay rhetoric comes from bigotry and ignorance.

Story time, kids! There was one guy I knew with whom this actually was the case where he was gay, but before he came out, he couldn't hold a conversation with at least brining up some anti gay comment. He even bullied a student I knew, accusing the poor guy of giving him longing looks. I remember one time he got so nasty, I looked over and the student was misty eyed and hard faced, trying not to cry. When I found him, years later of course, on face book with a profile pic of himself kissing another man, I fantasized about getting a bat and just bludgeoning his face. I'd send him a message, but he's friends with a lot of people I know.

hopefully a man like that will be ashamed of how he behaved in the past, having accepted it as part of his life.
