^^ LOL

I'm going to start selling Rapture™ Insurance. It is entirely pointless, but it has the word Rapture™ in it; so I expect it will be a big hit

Martin Luther once wrote, "I live like tomorrow is the last day, but I'll still plant apple trees."

Ah! A Canadian theologian and college professor had once said something like that to me after I had asked a given question, but I did not know he had apparently borrowed that from good ol' Martin!

I wouldn't be surprise if one of Luther's professor's had said that to him, as well.

And on that last day, as the earth is consumed in fire, I'll probably be trying to sell snow cones...

Most likely Luther would be blaming it all on the Jews.

If you're implying that Antisemitism is acceptable among us modern American Lutherans, then you seriously have issues of of your own bigotry you have to work out.

I am saying the proto-nazi Martin Luther aged in a manner according to his inclination. He was an anti-semite son of a b*tch as a young man and he became more so when he aged.

In Western Europe they're already saying: jews, emigrate to the US or Israel cause the arabs are becoming the majority here, they do not really like you (because of Israel of course).

Actually as a younger man, he wrote of acceptance and toleration of Jews, even working with Jewish scholars to translate Hebrew OT texts into German. So no, there is no evidence that he was Antisemitic when he was young. Though the Jew hating he had been raised with in his post Medieval society doubtlessly came bubbling up from his subconscious in later life, after he survived several physical illnesses, which left his thinking and behavior erratic. And what you have to remember is, Luther was a product of his times - nobody who lived back then lived up to our 21st century standards of morality or civility.

Part of his Agenda to convert the Jews. One way of doing away with Judaism is to convert all the Jews. When few if any responded to Luther's blandishments he showed his true Jew hating self and he revealed it fully on his death bed. There he is about to great his Maker and he wants to burn the Jews. There goes your anti-semite. Different mountain, different god.

Luther had the soul of a Nazi. He and Richard Wagner would have made fine huggy bunny mates.

"Order"? No ... just courtesy. Otherwise, it's like the old "Bait & Switch" tactic that gets people interested, but then switches focus to something else.

If people think that this latest "Judgment Day Prophesy" is of no real concern, then why don't they just say so?

Personally, I think that it's all a vain attempt by the leaders of a dying religion to drum up interest, build up attendance, and increase profits for the churches within that religion.

But that's just me.

The notion that Luther's Antisemitism was motivated by Jews refusal to convert is an old argument that doesn't take into account what was going on personally with Luther. Again, it was the older, sick Luther who made these statements. A very good book to read up on this argument is Baiton's Luther: A Biography.
And what source are you using to base your assertion on that Luther was hating Jews on his deathbed?

Tangent topics and concerns come up. Someone likens misuse of global warming to this and, it goes where it should.

The leaders? This is something they'd do if they wanted to make sure it died faster. The bible clearly states that no one knows the day or time. I was brought up catholic and they say the same thing. A dying sect that he's a leader of? Sure, but this speaks of broader Christianity as much as Westboro Baptists speak for the whole or as much as the Crystal Stairs "Jesus is on a UFO orbiting the earth" speaks to those interested in metaphysics or the abstractly spiritual.

This thing - May 21, 2011, it's entertaining and funny because its a clear and obvious farse. That and, haven't people made it obvious - by their comments about making sights and using this as something similar to say "I'm guillotining my legs off in 30 days online!" and recanting for the sake of banner advertising money or selling t-shirts to make a profit; I think the people posting and treating this as a joke have been at least 4:1.
