Illegal Immigration (My Personal Anecdote)
so instead I will say I am sorry your life sucks but I can bet some good money
the people that made it suck where your close kin and not some dudes from mexico.
number two, We should base border policy on your hard luck story?
Oh, Tomboy in Cali does not like Mexicans so ship them out?
Logic does not apply statistics do not apply.
Please get some facts get some figures and leave the trauma for your Momma.
Really? I had some pretty uncomfortable situations with Hispanics (can't say Mexican because I never bothered to ask what their nationality was). Why because I lived in a neighborhood that was primarily Hispanic. Some of them in groups were pretty threatening. Had I been alone, I'm sure they would have not stopped at just saying crude things about me & staring at me like I was naked. I'm sure I would have been gang raped...because that's the attitude THEY projected. None of the people in California who caused me trouble were biological relatives. Not a single one. Bio family lives in the mid-west.
As far as Hispanics/any immigrant, not just Border Bros. go...they're fine as long as they come here LEGALLY. Not crossing borders using stupid excuses like "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us." Lame...ignorant, it's all the same. Not jumping fences, or sneaking in by way of boats, tunnels, etc. I am all for LEGAL immigration. That's where my beef lies. Got a problem with that? I am all about doing things the right way, not the easy way or the ILLEGAL way. Btw, Mexico has quite the opposite view when it comes to people invading its borders ILLEGALLY. It's shoot to kill first, & ask questions later. Few people dare to mess with Mexico's borders.
I got a sucky education. I grew up abused. I also survived. Though I often wish I hadn't because the things that were done to me has left an indelible footprint on my psyche. I wasn't raised in a filthy rich home with lots of bells & whistles. I was raised by abusive adopted parents who let others use me in any way they wished. The state of California doesn't give a rat's ass, what happened to me. Nor did they care what happened with Jaycee Dugard. But they sure were fast to provide her with a settlement that'll provide for her & her kids for a very long time. Lucky girl. But California's trouble are also due to ultra extreme payouts when officials get sued for not doing their jobs the right way. But again, that's not the issue here.
Am I looking for your sympathy? NO. I don't care what you think. That's the honest truth. I know what I've been through & I do not need to justify anything.
If you are not looking for sympathy then why are you telling us this stuff?
Maybe you need to talk to some folks about your troubles.
Ragging on Hispanics and Asians just makes you seem weak.
I you have every right to be angry but leave it out of your political thinking.
Your anger can not convince me.
It just makes me doubt the clarity of your arguments.
best of luck.

Back to calling me names? I have not called you a single name, but here you go again! What's wrong with you? Have you no manners? Apparently you live in an area where you don't have a lot of different nationalities who all speak different languages. Can't even go to the market & find anyone who speaks English anymore. It gives me a headache.
This nation used to be considered a melting pot, now it's just a bunch of people who have divided themselves into little mini countries. Each ethnicity has it's own zip code. Maybe I'm just too old & old school to understand why or how this has happened. People here also used to get along....not go around defacing public property (acting like dogs only leaving ugly visual marks), not shooting each other because they're in rival gangs, etc. I think some things have not changed for the better. People can be purple with green polka dots for all I care....as long as they come here LEGALLY & ABIDE by the LAWS of California.
Why should I obey laws if others' don't? Why should I pay taxes if there are others who refuse? What's the point of having these things when others constantly break them? Why do you feel they need to be defended? Are you or your relatives some of these law breakers too? And why do you consider it ragging on someone if I disagree with them breaking the law?
Maybe you like it just fine....so go ahead. Buy me out, & I'll be more than happy to get out of this state.

I will give the Chicano movement credit in that the majority of Americans are incapable jobs where one has to work outside in extremely hot weather for hours. This is more often as a strawberry picker or a harvester of some type of hand-picked crop. Also, a lot of gardening work and grounds keeping work which is outside.
People who are white, asian, or people with pale swarthy skin will be burnt to a crisp where I live. They lack the natural protection. We had some who tried but employers will refuse to hire a white person, pale person, or asian person because that person is a liability. They are almost guaranteed to get heat stroke with the hours required in the hot sun.
So who do the illegal immigrants compete for these jobs? I saw the illegals compete actively for these outside, harvesting jobs with people who come from a poor background and have very dark skin; people who identify as African American. The competition of even the most difficult jobs for African Americans of low socioeconomic status and Chicanos cements a heavy, toxic relationship.
This relationship is even more toxic since these are native Americans do want these jobs and the Chicanos keep up the illusion that they do jobs no one else wants to do. The "poor black" knows by experience that this is not the case.
Janitorial work for inside conditions which are kept cooler is desired by many native born Americans. I applied for one of those when I was in high school for some extra money, and I never heard back. So there is demand and competition for those types of jobs.
I was being seriously sarcastic.

This has not been my experience. The one time I went into Mexico, my brother and I crossed unopposed and unremarked; it was on the way back home that we were pulled aside, and I and had my papers checked (he didn't); I was questioned and basically assumed to be a puta and/or my brother a coyote because he's blonde and I'm brunette.
NO, the people in Mexico were perfectly accomodating. On the other hand, I stay out of New Mexico and Arizona these days because people see my hair and give me the evil eye.
I'm very sorry that you've had a difficult life, Tomboy, but just because misery loves company doesn't mean that misery will be happier with company.

I have been hassled by illegals (taunted, etc), I've been told I HAVE to learn Spanish. Had I not had a companion it's quite likely I would have been attacked. I used to live in America, but alas California is a Mexican state for the most part. I do miss the days when I used to be able to talk to people in English (no matter which country they came from) & they also spoke English. It was the common denominator for everyone. And it worked! Now everyone wants to only use their language here. What happened to the idea of the melting pot? One big American culture? It's all but gone. I personally don't care if someone wants to keep their original language...it's out in public that I find it insulting that no one who speaks a foreign language wants to really be American. It's as though they are afraid or ashamed of it. I also miss the days when people were proud to come here legally, & abide by the rules of this country/state. Sadly, those days are gone. Hopefully, I'll get out of here sooner than later. There is no place here for me.

People have been saying that sort of crap about every immigrant population to ever come to the states.
They said it about the irish, about the "dutch" who were really germans, about the italians. everybody.
I grew up in a neighborhood that was 100% white and mormon. Today it is still 99% white and mormon.
But i work (as a no-collar computer nerd) in what has been referred to as the rainbow-belt of salt lake city.
I work a couple blocks from a mosque, for example. I regularly see middle-eastern and black women wearing hijabs. There are thai, laotian, and vietnamese people everywhere. There are koreans, ethiopians, mexicans, and bosnians -- bosnian muslims, to be specific. Refugees.
I tell you, the food is AWESOME. the atmosphere may be lacking, but the food is great.
I filled my loyalty card at the bosnian deli last week and tomorrow I'm gonna get myself a pljeskavica & fries for FREE. Imagine if someone decided to mix a 50:50 batch of gyro meat and ground beef and throw in a handfull of goat cheese while they're at it, and then form it into a patty bigger than your hand, fry up a burger, and serve it with clotted cream and a vegetable spread made from roasted eggplant, roasted bell peppers, and roasted garlic inside a bun of artisan bread. Praise allah, it is great.
The pho' across the street from that place is great too, but watch out because they are oldschool and if you order tripes you better mean it.
I'm not really in love with sour pancakes but the ethiopian place up the road is pretty good too.
And then there is the korean place that makes fresh tofu soup. that was good.
Every time we have a team lunch scheduled i bring up the fact that we haven't gone for real mexican yet, but i think basically we are too distracted by the other ethnicities offering us tasty vittles, and when faced with a conundrum the more xenophobic of our team vote for the salad bar at the sizzler. Whatcha gonna do?
But the proprietors at every single one of these businesses have exactly the same entrepreneurial spirit as the small businesses i patronize that are run by native 'merkins.
They may not speak very good english but their kids do.
They pray to a different god than you do and they have strange and colorful accessories for same, but with time and passing generations they will likely become just as apathetic about religion as most americans.
We are experiencing a recent influx of immigrants so there is some friction and a lot of misunderstanding leading to a lot of antipathy but THEY are the embodiment of The American Dream.
And we should support them in this, and stop being a**holes about it.

The immigrants last century were documented and their numbers were regulated. There was friction but most of them weren't criminals and was pressure for their children to assimilate. The same cannot be said about our present day illegals. They care nothing about our laws and have no loyalty to our country, but only want the financial opportunities here. There is not room for them in our economy with the way it is likely to remain long term and their criminal element is far larger and lacks the the honor code immigrant criminals or their kids had a century ago.

That's a rosy picture of historical immigration that does not jibe with much of the reality.

I will grant you that mexican nationalism is quite strong right now, but the same isn't true for most immigrant nationalities.
My chinese coworker tells me that he wants to stay in the USA. That he loves the freedoms we have here. He is just here on an H1B but has been here for 11 years and is working on citizenship.
Cultural identity fades from generation to generation. It is unavoidable and frankly the same dynamic that led to the pilgrims to forget about holland and come to the new world.
b***h all you want about the current generation, the next one will identify as American with a capital A. And they'll make you look like a pinko.

Yes but there is no sense pointing out to a neo-luddite how things were different before they were born - it just confuses them.

The illegal immigration problem started around the 1960's. It was ignored because they were in such small numbers, didn't expect any services and were easy to take advantage of and then get rid of if they objected. The rate which they have been coming over has grown over the years. There have been a coupe large generations of descendants, and they are more belligerent than ever since they don't face deportation. You will not find this die hard love for America in predominantly Hispanic schools in large districts. Quite the contrary. Now they talk about La Reconquista. If we let this continue too long we may have to counter with a La Solución Final.
That cliche is just a red herring the liberals have beat to death trying to change the subject from the present situation. Maybe it gives them a piss-your-pants warm feeling but it does nothing to address how we are going to manage all these aliens.
