What I'd like to see is solid proof that god exists, not a glorified story book from the ancient Middle East.

So, we can agree that depending on someone else to fix your mistakes is not a great idea, whether it be humans or gods?

The questions are based on logic.

Although, if god had the capability to remove all evil, I would actually quite like him too. The quality of life world over would greatly improve.

Imagine, no murder, no rape, no child molestation, no theft, a world of honesty and peace.

You would have to be mad not to want that.

The questions are based on human logic, and probably human timetables.

So your reason for ignoring the absence of proof for god, is that he doesn't act on a human time table, or in a way we can comprehend?

And yes he was supposed to communicate with us, and be able to send his son down to earth.

You aren't making much sense here shrox.

Well, if "end time" events are in the future, wouldn't that be something that is not on our timetable, since we want it now? By end time I mean the 'paradise" they lead up to.

...I don't follow your reasoning at all shrox.

I want god to prove he exists, if he does not, I will continue to operate on the assumption that god does not exist.

No excuses about logic and time scales. Either god exists, or god does not.

Oh, I am not going to prove anything, other that George Lucas needs a new job. (Ewoks, Jar-Jar-Binks.)

Why do you want me to prove God exists? So you can then "believe"? What proof would you accept? An object?

If god exists, it would explain a lot and set my mind at rest about some of the random little questions in my mind. Where did we actually come from? Was it actually random? That sort of thing. I accept sciences current answers, but they are not 100% proven (as far as I know).

The proof that I would accept would include:
Direct communication with god
Scientific proof that god exists
The second coming of christ (assuming demonstration of his abilities)

I am guessing you mean you having a personal interaction with God. Isn't that what most Christians say you need?
What would be the "scientific" proof? An object? An unexplained physical phenomenon? Heck, dark matter fits that then.
As for the Jesus returning, well just wait. That's probably not on your time table I know...the waiting part.

Scientific proof of god existing would be very difficult. I'm not even sure if it's actually possible.

The fact that this thread exist, is proof she does exist.
If not - what are you talking about, scientific non-existent proof?

As I understand it, the "goddess" is the bride of Christ.

What about my undeniable proof about George Lucas? What about that?

I am no Queen, but Sir Lucas is inspiring, creative, respected and puts forth effort to prove what he believes in.

Gee, maybe stopping evil is up to...YOU?

There had been times in my life when I wish I had that hand coming down to set me straight.

The man had had his hits, like Darth Vader, and misses, like Jar Jar Binks.

The problem with most of the arguments you typically see both for and against the existence of God is that the reasoning tends to be simplistic, linear and egocentric. For the believers, all-too-often, God has been hijacked by religion and their beliefs are shaped by people who have human motivations. For non-believers, all-too-often, God is defined as the God of the Bible/Koran/mythology etc. and once that God is dismissed, then the idea of any God is easily rejected as well. I think in order to honestly answer the question of the existence of God, you need to eliminate thousands of years of human baggage on the topic and stop looking at God in terms of his impact on humanity or individuals. The universe is way bigger than that.

I read a book a few years ago called The God Theory and found it to be quite an interesting read. It basically approaches the question from a scientific perspective and proposes that consciousness gave rise to matter rather than the commonly held idea that matter gives rise to consciousness. It's a heady book, but one of the easy-to-comprehend principles in it is that there was an original intelligence that gave rise to the universe and in doing so allowed itself to experience the combined forces of every single thing that every living thing experiences. Perhaps not all will agree with the theories that the book proposes, but it is a far more intelligent and scientific examination of the question than I have ever seen before.

What say you to this, Fnord? :D
