That's what happens when religion takes over - legal authority becomes a tool of the religious institutions, and those who do not conform to religious doctrine are persecuted, harassed, and arrested, regardless of any disabilities that could explain their behavior.

that is not inevitable. many religions do not treat people like that. it is evident that you have a problem with religion and disagree with all aspects, but points like this just cross over into extreme illogic.

I think the point is not that religions do that, but that theocracies do that. There is a difference - a subtle difference, but an extremely vital one in this particular case.

most religions do not form theocracies, so it's not really a useful point. and the OP's situation has nothing to do with any theocracy.

Actually, most religions do.

Christianity does, judaism does, islam does, hinduism does, buddhism does etc etc.

Perhaps you should study some history before spouting rubbish as fact.

are you aware that there have been many thousands of religions throughout history? apparently not, because then you'd realise your point is rubbish. the vast majority of religions have not had theocracies. i guess you are unaware that there are many religions besides those major ones lol.

also, the OP is not living in a theocracy.

plenty do,

even buddhism has a violent history.
they howewever have been learning something some other religions actively "fight"

Sorry...WHAT! THE! f**k!?????

Your issues with your mother is not unusual, and I am not good at giving advice when it comes to how to deal with religiously nutty parents. Seek assistance with some local humanist association or something, perhaps. Pretend until you're free. I don't know.

But officials dealing with exorcism? In 2012? Where is this? The USA? I'm completely baffled.

OP, your mum sounds very changable. Mine is the same. She grew up as a conservative Evangelical but is now mostly a chilled out non-denominational christian who likes monks and buddhists and catholic mystics, however she has phases of being strict conservative again based on whoever shes liking at the time. I much prefer her when laid back and tolerant tho.

My mom used to support me in my beliefs, even though she is Christian, yesterday she allegedly saw one of her students in her SED class possessed and the school police officer took him to a church to be exorcised, apparently his grandma cursed his family. today my mom got me a crucifix which i immediately said F*** NO to and my mom forbade me from saying ANYTHING about Atheism anymore.......im sorry who i am is not going to change if she can't accept that im gonna tell her to f*** off and she will be dead to me, my favorite Uncle(strident Atheist and moms favorite brother) is already dead, my older brother has already abandoned us just because we hate his new wife, so i wonder how mom will act if i abandoned her also?

Can you leave home?

ruveyn

"plenty" is not "most". in fact, at most it would be "some". it's also not relevant to the OP's issue.
