I agree this shouldn't be tolerated.
BUT, I believe we should have respect for anyone's intelligence, regardless of their belief or lack thereof.
as long as you can accept things like evolution and the big bang theory and not offend anyone's belief or non-belief, it's all good.
You may disrespect the intelligence of stupid people of certain beliefs, but not the actual belief itself.
However, it should be noted that this does not rule out intelligent discussion of either politics or religion.
That is my stance on the subject. I am also a secularist.
I can respect the intelligence of a person, but not respect their beliefs. An illogical or unsubstantiated belief is subject to criticism. Just because a belief is based on religion and not, say, Bigfoot, doesn't mean that it should be exempted from critical examination.
