As you're pretty articulate, and still have your whole life ahead of you, you've got a better chance than me to get into office and shake things up.

I don't think I could play the politics game...but I suppose there are other ways.

Bad news.

That means Congress can order citizens to buy rubbers before the f*ck.

There is no aspect of the private lives of citizens that is safe from Congress.

Congratulations!

My only concern is that this victory might reduce the hunger for a real public healthcare system. Think of it as a stepping stone. Remember, polls consistently show that the American public wants a real public option, not this compromise involving private insurance companies.

Eventually we will end up with an abortion like the NHS is Britain. We are doomed.

I thought they struck it down. The individual health insurance mandate part, at least.

Nope, they only struck down one of the good parts of the bill, the part requiring states to expand medicaid coverage to all people who cannot possibly afford private insurance beginning in 2014.

Right. They didnt quite strike the Medicaid expansion down from what I'm seeing. They said states can opt out.

So some states will cover the poor, some will not. Interesting to see how that works.

So, the Repugs at least have this to gloat over. People will still be dying in the streets, in some (mostly Red) states.

Yay! We can all pay more for health insurance! Those insurance executives weren't rich enough! Hopefully the SWAT team they send to my house for not being able to pay this 'tax' doesn't kill my dog before sending me to their rape cage.

Sorry, but you're way out of line, once again.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/janetnovack ... ike-a-tax/

Quote:
It does not apply to individuals who do not pay federal income taxes because their household income is less than the filing threshold in the Internal Revenue Code...

Roberts concludes the mandate functions more like a tax than the “penalty” for not buying insurance the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act labels it as, because in most cases “the amount due will be far less than the price of insurance,’’ and the IRS is “not allowed to use those means most suggestive of a punitive sanction, such as criminal prosecution,’’ to enforce it.

Moreover, he writes, “taxes that seek to influence conduct are nothing new”. For example, “federal and state taxes can compose more than half the retail price of cigarettes, not just to raise more money, but to encourage people to quit smoking.’’ He notes the court has also upheld “such obviously regulatory measures as taxes on selling marijuana and sawed-off shotguns.”

You've been listening to Repubnican propaganda without verifying, once again.

Romney's supporters all have health insurance, and absolutely nothing to worry about.

Those of you who are too poor to pay federal income taxes and also don't want health insurance similarly have absolutely nothing to worry about.

The Repubnican Party is simply trying to get you all riled up over nothing, and their ability to succeed at this will determine their chances to place Mitt Romney in the White House.

Do you know how much health insurance is? Do you know how low the filing threshold is for federal income taxes? For a lot of people health insurance alone costs more than the filing threshold and now the price of health insurance will go up and up and up. Basically if you're a homeless person, you don't have to buy health insurance. Thanks Obama.

They said on CNN that this "tax" will likely be treated as an extension of your income taxes so if you don't pay the "tax", you'll be not be paying your income tax. So they'll put you in prison for not paying your income taxes not for failing to buy health insurance. Some choice.

What is your basis for imagining that health insurance will go "up and up and up?" Because insurance companies now have to take everyone, regardless of pre-existing conditions?

We already have the world's most expensive health care system, with health outcomes that are not exactly the envy of the world.

Most of the opposition was because (a) it was seen as an intrusion of personal freedom, and (b) given the fact that we are nearly $20 trillion in debt, it raised fears of an epic financial failure, like we've seen across Europe lately.

I get offended when people make it sound like we "want to see poor people die". Besides, there are already free clinics in many areas, and the Republicans never tried to shut them down.

I think many americans don't like socialism because our government is populated with a bunch of raving morons who have an amazing talent for managing everything they touch into the ditch. Government-run anything here in the US is crap.

It is funny that it's the revenge of George Bush. He put Roberts in there. The last spit in conservative's eyes from curious George.

Of course it's more complicated than that but it's funny to see it that way. The mandate was approved by the majority of judges at every level, including some conservatives. Hard to blame Roberts.
