Restraining orders are a frequently sought in divorce cases as a way to secure assets. There are also cases, believe it or not, of deadbeat tenants who have used restraining orders against their landlords to avoid getting evicted.

To get a restraining order, you fill out an affidavit. The trick is to use language in a way that is convincing to a judge that you are in actual danger and fear for you safety. In the case of an alleged stalker who has not yet caused you physical harm and there is no record of threatening communication, an advocate will instruct you of using key words and phrases which put the burden of proof on the person you're filing against to demonstrate their innocence. If your application is approved, the person getting served with the order will not be informed of the affidavit and even if they know that it exists, they do not have a right to see it unless they go before a judge and get approval.

The bottom line is that the decision is entirely in the hands of a judge, NOT a jury of ones peers, and the person petitioning for a restraining order is not required to have any sort of tangible proof that they are being stalked, harassed, or even abused. A person served with a restraining order is regarded by the law as guilty until proven innocent.

as for assange... what a set up. one of the worlds most hated men by governments is suddenly accused of rape. what a surprise. absolute nonsense.

In case you haven't noticed by now, there is SO MUCH MORE to religion than just theology(theistic beliefs). Political and social ideologies more certainly can be very much like a hardcore religion! People believe in them so fervently and passionately that they attack any criticism of it and refuse to examine it rationally. That my friend, is the essence of fanaticism.

That was actually pretty much my point, and is one I make in lots of areas. That any political/cultural idea will have gradations of fervency (yes, it's a word) and fanaticism etc. TheDarkMage, however, posited that all feminism is of that ilk. I noted that that opinion was, in a very real sense, arsebiscuits.

the whole problem with feminists is that i could sit here all day and state the obvious to them but it wont make the slightest bit of difference because they cannot see it for what it is. Feminism by definition is only concerned with women getting more rights than anyone else (therefore more power and money). The same way capitalism is only concerned with making people rich and others poor. the same way religions all think they are the one true religion and non followers are to be damned.

Feminism presents a series of arguments and challenges to the social/economic/cultural/political etc status quo and the place and perception of women therein. It is no threat to those arguments and challenges to cry 'rubbish! You're only after money!'. All you've done there is assert your opinion, and very flimsily so. At best, it's a little bewildering.

Pick a feminist argument - there's plenty out there - and point out why said argument is wrong.
