Yep, the world already ended.

Damn! I slept through it.

It is stupid that the Mayan achievements, are totally overlooked by something that has nothing whatsoever to do with them.

Why give them creative? Well because they weren't totally stupid, their calender was not perfect, but they were considering time on a scale the was massive at the time. That is pretty advanced.

I thought the mayan calendar was more accurate than the gregorian.

It is. And the Mayans also had the 19 year metonic lunar cycle factored into their calendars.

Oh please. It wasn't the Christians who thought the world was going to end today. it was the new agers.

I am disappointed nothing happened.

I mean, every day of the year, there is always a chance that something disruptive of status quo would happen. Throughout this year we have had many of such dates.

So, a big earthquake could have happened today. Just like it could have happened April 14-th or September 2nd.

It is very easy to be a skeptic now, that nothing actually happeend. But I would have really wanted to see you if something actually happened! That would have been a way to select between the real skeptics and the not-so good ones!

Bah they are working together as a conspiracy to recruit more lemmings to join their ranks.

It seems pretty silly to believe the Mayans would predict the end of the world. I thought they were like the Aztec; they believed they could make the world last forever through human sacrifice.

Whenever a world DID end in mesoamerican mythology, the survivors always turned into some kind of animal that did not exist before. In that regard I'm a little disappointed... It would have been pretty cool if we all turned into dragons!

I don't think Christians are allowed to make claims about the date of the world ending. Wouldn't it make them false prophets?

You are correct Madam. "No one knows the day or hour."

I don't know if I learnt that from reading the Bible (I used to do so very often and I would really just read random parts every day. I would have been around 8 ) or from my Grandma but I am glad I spread the correct information. Once I was reading the news paper (It was one from Jamaica, I was rather upset when my siblings destroyed it) in an advice column that I think had a preacher writing it due to the name "Ask The Preacher" and what they said. Well someone wrote that the world was going to end (May or March something 2011) and that Preacher needs to preach about it and do the radio shows all days not just Sunday. Preacher told them that they were being a false prophet and most likely said "No one knows the day or hour" because in that case it would be the proven statement. I do think some Christians ignore that rule and do promote things such as this however. On an unrealated note, the survival plans are pure folly in my opinion. I just saw a show come on about them (well it was on last time I left my room) and also heard about them at a birthday party. The ones from my class are worse. Someone suggest that cutting slitd into ones neck should make oneself have gills  I hope that was a joke because that make no sense what so ever. Also movies are entertainment and to be regarded as such. One person suggested that the movie was what was to come and Sandy was the start hence the flood in New York. I hope they were kidding.

Mainstream Christians are disinclined to that End of Days nonsense. However the more extreme Fundies and Evangelicals are not. I have determined by empirical means that people who take the Rapture seriously also take the Book of Revelations seriously too.

Both are nonsense, hogwash and balderdash but there are those who believe in them.

Back a few years, the New Agers were ready for the Age of Aquarius. Instead they got the Age of Obama.

That is rather odd because I thought the Fundamentalists took everything as fact in the Bible and acted accordingly. They must have missed the part about the false prophets. :?:

Whether you believe it or not, this is the age of Aquarius. As the indigo prophet Dylan said:

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

No. However, I do think there's a significant chance of global societal collapse within the next couple decades.
