peyronies! now that I got that out of my system, I gotta say that America is now more class-ridden than the old European cultures. it is such a disappointment that we as a society have not by now escaped from the cultural straightjacket which imposes strictures on those who come "from the wrong side of the tracks."

It's funny - people came from Europe because they wanted to live somewhere where the weren't judged by who their father was.

You could have been way worse of than you are today. How many with a college degree in engineering, economics, nursing or anything demanding are actually poor? Reelect someone like Bill Clinton the next time; his government balanced the budget, reduced the unemployment rate to the lowest since before the oil crisis in 1973--and made sure that home ownership reached an all time high. In a nutshell, Bill Clinton deserved that blowjob.

The internet bubble helped him enormously. I don't see any more bubbles coming along in the near future to save the US.

in a "nutshell" alright ;) 'tis a shame that only people outside of the American meme can understand these things.

Glad to say Bill is an Arkansas boy.I got to meet him twice, once I almost spilled a drink on him at a dedication for a park for handicapped kids. I was 16 and almost died from the embarrassment. When he worked a crowd he made sure he talked to everyone there. When a good friend of his,Hillary Jones died he attended the funeral here in Jasper and the whole town was shut down, the secret service guys were everywhere.I'm glad I was at work that day,I'll most likely never get to see a Presidental entourage again.

^^^He was really good about getting out and meeting the public,if you were present where he was he'd come up and strike up a conversation.I think everyone in the county saw him that day.I don't think the tourists were happy, they had all the roads into town closed.
Some of the Secret Service guys ate where I worked , they were so nice and tipped really well!!There were guys in suits with really expensive sunglasses and then some were dressed in military looking uniforms, they were sitting in a van armed to the teeth but they were friendly and very handsome. The suit guys stayed close to Clinton and the others were all over,on the roofs etc.....

a recent public opinion poll taken in seattle, had 8% of the respondents replying that they believed fast food workers didn't even deserve to be paid minimum wage. any guesses as to who those 8% were?

I hope those seattle fast food workers can organize. some factoids I just found-

as of 2010, total health spending per capita-
*America=$8,233
*France=$3,974

gov't health spending per capita-
*America=$3,967
*France=$3,061

total % of medically uninsured-
*America=15.7%
*France=0%

life expectancy at birth [circa 2011]-
*America=78.7 years
*France=81.3 years

infant mortality per 1000 births-
*America=6.1
*France=3.6

[sources: organization for economic cooperation and development and international federation of health plans]

why is France outperforming America in this respect? why can't America see what it is doing wrong, and fix things? this is a national embarrassment.

correct me if i'm wrong, but bankers didn't used to be quite such bloodsucking rent-collectors as so many of them are now.

You know "poverty level" doesn't mean the same worldwide when the impoverished can:

eat McDonald's daily
buy an XBOX
and smoke

Nor can I. I luckily don't smoke, so that's not applicable to me. But I know I certainly can't afford an XBOX. Hell, the TV set my family and I are watching is a gift from our church.
