I understand how the military can be a positive, life changing experience; but the idea of forcing it on others because we like it so much is exactly why religion gets such a bad rap.

There is no law forcing religion on anyone. One of my best friends is an atheist.

In Poland was once compulsory military service and was abolished in 2010.

When I got the call to appear to the draft board in 2005 when military service was still compulsory, but was rejected for health reason :(

I wanted to serve in the Polish Army, after completing basic training I could sign a contract for professional service, and go to Iraq or Afghanistan because Poland was involved in both of these conflicts within NATO. When I think of myself that I missed such an interesting and cool career path.
