You do want men to get suspend for saying hateful

Bill, the thing you're quoting to ask a question about answers your question.

are you sure you're actually functionally literate? i want the moderators to have permission from alex to deal with sexism the way other forms of hate (like racism) are dealt with on this site--I WANT THEM TO TREAT RACIST AND SEXIST COMMENTS IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY.

I was under the impression they already do.

And there are ways around the "-ist" speech if you'll take the time to think about it. Like...say..."economically challenged" or "entitlement recipients." Or "ignorant people." Or "misogynist" or "misandrist." You address racial issues or sexist issues by targetting specific problems that are tangential to race or sex. Once you directly mention sex or skin color, you're sunk. Even if that's what you actually mean, you remain safe within TOS if you stick with the facts and leave out references to specific race or gender.

It also helps avoid making offensive broad generalizations.

no, they don't--they were instructed to "let them [sexist commenters--and yes, just them, not all bigots, just the sexists] look stupid". that was explained already in my thread on the subject.

I would like us to discuss my original topic if anyone doesn't mind. Is logic, rationality, and reason sufficient to understanding ourselves, others and our empirical world?

In my opinion, I say no these things are not enough because all one's logic is a model of our interpretation of the world. Let's say we have a database. Is it a model of the real world or a model of their interpretation of the real world? Do we truthfully have facts and empirical evidence or is it our interpretation of this empirical evidence?

In existence are there times that it is not possible to study, isolate and examine one entity without having to examine others.

I may have an idea that I thought of last night. My opinion is to create a particular sub-forum in which at least some of the wrongplanet rules are not enforced and let it be a mad max, beyond thunder dome, type free for all. Everyone in that sub-forum can say what they want and Alex can put up a warning that this sub-forum is not or less moderated or something to that effect. It would be similar to the fight rooms of the days of yore.

So you're proposing a 'free speech zone'? I can't endorse such an idea for a number of reasons, one being the implied tradeoff of uncensored speech elsewhere in the forum, and another being that drama from the 'thunder forum' will inevitably leach out into the rest of the board, as can be easily observed already with various grudges and vendettas being played out over the site. Also, this already exists, it's called intensitysquared.

Maybe you just have a different interpretation of what sexism
is compare to Alex. Maybe Alex see sexism not as bad
as you do.Again Im not sure what you consider
as sexism(example:the feminist question)remember
Your not speaking on be half of a feminist
group or any group who has agreement
what they consider as sexism.Your speaking
on your be half. So,I don't know what
you consider sexism or not(ex
is saying ''men are smarter'' ''women
are bad math''do you consider that sexism)

Like I say, maybe Alex just see it different than you

i've given you very clear examples of what i consider sexist statements. the fact that you don't understand my examples is not my problem.

I am talking about a very particular practice of labelling certain thinking 'logical' and 'rational'. I am not at all arguing against reason or logic themselves. Indeed, I am in favour of taking back 'rational' and 'logical' from such thinking.

In your strawman example, I would say the other engineer has the perfectly sound motivation (desire, feeling, sentiment) that the materials and methods used should ensure the building is safe to enter and use/inhabit, and that the best methods to determine this are maths and knowledge from previous experience etc. I would be fully in agreement, and would be surprised that anyone with the ideas you assign to me has gotten anywhere near that kind of influence in such a project. Must be nepotism or something.

Hmm, it appears that we are not as far apart as I thought. I apologize for labeling my hypothetical emotionalist engineer "you."

What I see most often is the accusation that those who use logic appropriately are "cold" or "heartless." If the above engineer got his job through nepotism, most likely there was at some point a conversation like this:
Contractor's wife: You need to hire your nephew, he's always wanted to be an engineer.
Contractor: But he'd be of no use to me. I couldn't trust his judgement on anything. I don't know how he even got through school.
Contractor's wife: But he really wants it. Have you no concern for his feelings? Is logic the be-all and end-all?

When in fact a career like that requires a lot of hard work and dedication. If he is successful, the contractor is very likely passionate about his job, and feels great satisfaction and pride from a job well done. That, not just desire for money, is needed in order to continue working through long hours and multiple setbacks.

I would like to see a concrete example of someone who believes that following reason means not caring about anybody else. I find this conclusion entirely irrational.

"Silence you"? When have I ever tried to silence you? Is that what you call arguing against you? Not being a mod, I don't have that power, nor have I lobbied for that power to be applied to you. You, on the other hand, have in fact openly attempted to use the mods to silence people who say things you don't like, and are in fact at this very moment attempting a large scale silencing of dissenting voices on WP.
You sure you want to try and bring irony into this discussion? Care to move directly on to projection?

i am trying to get the policy on this site changed so that sexism is dealt with in the same light as racism and other forms of bigotry. this is not equivalent to "silencing dissenting voices"--it is equivalent to silencing sexist hate speech, as racist hate speech has been silenced on this site previously, and homophobic hate speech has been silenced, etc. as they should be silenced--no one has the right to spew hatred and abuse, that is not covered under free speech and we all know this. my intentions are stated very clearly in my OP.

if you can't say "black people are all gang members" on wrongplanet without getting your comment removed and receiving a warning about why such comments are unacceptable, then you can't say "women are all superficial and only want alpha males that abuse them"--the reason being that both such statements are hateful (and inaccurate) generalisations about historically oppressed/disadvantaged populations.

edit* to add: i meant my OP in "the treatment of women on wrongplanet" thread. forgot momentarily which thread i was posting on.

wait so me being upset and saying that women only want guys with "stuff" is sexist? is it the not including the "most" like is saying most women only want ..... ok?

I certainty don't inply hate, as i don't hate very often. I get frustrated at the women in my area, which is all i have to go off of for women being as i live here and not where you live or in another place. most the women in my area do seem to be more about superficial things and it isn't just me that notices. My concern with your compain to ban sexism here is that what is sexism, it can change person to person. like I was explained in school about sexual hassment it changes person to person so what most might take as ok one might feel harassed and get the person fired. Such as a guy looking at a model magazine. not really harrasment towards anyone but might make a lady in the office feel uncomfortable.

I Fear i'd be eventually banned cause while not meaning to be sexist some might take it as such. like i had a misunderstanding with someone on here who thought i was sexist by saying I don't talk to girls who game. I presume she thought I don't think girls should game there fore don't talk to them. I meant that I'm shy around girls there fore I have a hard time actually talking around them. and example being i was talking and play with friends when one of their friends who is a girl joined, i immediately went silent and was afraid.

i've had this lady i was trying to date tell me things i say is sexist while having a bunch of other women tell me it isn't. vrs racism is pretty clearly defined and accepted as by most . most people all agree saying a racial slur is racist, it deosn't seem to be the same for sexism besides things like "she can't do that cause shes a woman" "she should stay in the kitchen"

I am quite for empowering of women. I have never seen them as different or less then equal. I see them as people who due to biological reasons i'm attracted to. I if anything tend to see women as more powerful sex. I geuss it comes from being raised by powerful women, I actually grew up thinking it was like that everywhere.

I guess i could just leave wrong planet though, It has been good for me and sad, but generally more good. I'll miss it and the option to talk with people but I lived in solitude before. I suppose i can survive again.

do you understand why, if you were to say "gay people only want casual sex" or "most gay people only want casual sex" that would be wrong? when you make such statements, you are saying that an entire population (or the large majority of a population) of individuals are all the same. you are dismissing their individuality, their humanity, when you do this. it is hurtful to the group you're speaking of to generalise in such a way. why is it so difficult to comprehend this same principle in regards to women? the 3.5 billion women on this planet are all individual human beings, and to lump them all, or most, together in one one group and pronounce they all possess the same trait other than two X chromosomes is insulting and WRONG. BOTH wrong as in morally wrong, AND wrong as in inaccurate, incorrect, FALSE.

for you're example that is public knowledge not to be true there's polls and such . yet this doesn't stop a few women on this site saying all guys want is sex. generalize off of my experience. the government does this companies do this, marketing does this. It is impossible to get to know every person alive. one must there fore get to know as many as possible then use that data to generalize. Should i just assume all women are nice and like you despite what i've seen over and over. Isn't assuming they are all like you worst?
I only mean the ones in my area as thats all the data i have to go off. I never say all women nore to I intend to lump all women . There are tons of examples of lumping people though on this site that aren't all modded. the majority of women i've meet or read their profiles of both in my state and the few out of my state have been a certain way. This doesn't mean all women are, I feel its more of a society thing rather then a gender issue, I hear males tend to be more the same way. I however don't deal with males. so If there is a better way to express my frustration based of my data gathered then i'm sorry that I lack the skills of wording it properly. Would " the majority of women in my state" be better?

I think the us society is superficial in that we tend to value more of what a person looks like or has then who they are. I see this in one of the first things asked when meetings someone"what do you do for a living" I don't see a job as defining person. I'm sly i'm not a cashier, cashiering is my job, who i am is a kind, caring person who enjoys videogames, shooting, comedy, etc. Both guys and women care firstly about does the person have a good job, car, home, are they fit and attractive, then secondary what is their personality like. I think it should be 1st personality, attraction, then objects. If someone has a great personality and you find them attractive, it shouldn't matter if they have a ok job instead of a great paying one. it should be do they make you happy not can they pay for stuff.

I'll be the first to accept that where I live could be the extreme towards the data, Its far more likely to get the type of superficial people here at a expensive university town. more likey to have the person who values title and wealth over personality. I Really don't hate women or intend to be sexist I only try to express my frustrations with the women in my area. I probably lack the intelligence or understanding to word it properly , no intention to hurt people . I don't like the women here nd else where who keep saying guys only want sex, or guys only like sports etc. I don't feel its worth banning them though, I just either point out its not true or ignore it.

truthfully if what you wants happens i'll be terrified about posting here in fear I'll accidentally say something someone takes as sexist and get banned. Its a similar reason I don't post on fb but here I feel safe, and in general I feel i've accepted criticism and tried to improve.

so I guess what i wonder is then what is the proper way to express frustration a part of a population for doing something you feel is wrong without making it seem you are implying the whole population does it.

I also wonder why then is it ok to do this with political parties, gun owners, welfare people, etc. I see this done worst then me and challenged but not every time deleted and warned.

I don't mean to ok blatant sexism or the ideal that women are lessor I just wonder why some generations are accepted and others are not. I don't view my things as big generations or at least I don't mean them as such though sometimes I may be super depressed, frustrated and mad and make some extreme comments I regret later. just as some times In the past i've said i hate a family member.

I am afraid i won't be able to post in the only safe place i've found.

how about expressing your frustration with the individual people who have hurt you/rejected you, as opposed to spewing it at an entire gender? is it really that difficult to say "i have had bad experiences with the women i have known" instead of "women suck"?

no, you should assume that every single woman in the world (including every woman you ever encounter) is different from the next woman. full stop.

Would " the majority of women in my state" be better?

no, you should assume that every single woman in the world (including every woman you ever encounter) is different from the next woman. full stop.

but that isn't true, everyone is not 100% different then everyone else. or we wouldn't have groups or common interests. we wouldn't have political parties.
also when almost every woman I encounter says they want abc, and list it excatly the same . how is it wrong to group them together.

like when you group everyone who likes the yankes as yanke fans.

do they have different interests, likes, and personalities yes. but they are common in that they all demand a guy have a job, car, house, be fit and attractive.

I like guns so i tend to be grouped with others who like guns. i don't assume everyone likes guns, but when i see the majority of people in a area say they like guns, it is reasonable to say that area likes guns.

my state is grouped and generalized as a democrat state, only cause a slim majority vote democrat yet people say that state is a blue state or democrat state. they don't say that state is mostly democrat.

I only mean to say that it seems that most of the women in mare area are B. these women openly state they are b. I am not saying "all" women are B. IF I said "all" women are b then i could understand why you'd be upset. For this reason I tend to not use words that would imply to include the entirely of women.

like when a person gets mad and says ugh pens suck. you'd probably be like hes upset at that pen hes using and not take it as he hates all pens. I would imagine you have said things that sound bad but weren't meant to be all inclusive . Being you're human and all .

if we were all different we wouldn't have nations. a nation is just a group of people with commonalities on a land mass. we can have differences but share common things too.

no, they don't--they were instructed to "let them [sexist commenters--and yes, just them, not all bigots, just the sexists] look stupid". that was explained already in my thread on the subject.

Maybe you just have a different interpretation of what sexism
is compare to Alex. Maybe Alex see sexism not as bad
as you do.Again Im not sure what you consider
as sexism(example:the feminist question)remember
Your not speaking on be half of a feminist
group or any group who has agreement
what they consider as sexism.Your speaking
on your be half. So,I don't know what
you consider sexism or not(ex
is saying ''men are smarter'' ''women
are bad math''do you consider that sexism)

Like I say, maybe Alex just see it different than you

i've given you very clear examples of what i consider sexist statements. the fact that you don't understand my examples is not my problem.

As have I, over several PMs now, and it needs to stop.

It's not starvingartist's job or anyone else's to keep feeding you more and more examples - you need to take some time out and research it for yourself.
Even typing something like "what is sexism" into Google comes up with masses of explanations and examples so please, do that instead of continually asking people to provide answers for you.
