Should we believe our lying eyes? I am wearing a pair of progressive lens eyeglasses, and they add geometric distortion when I look at things at a certain angle. But when I move my head, things go back to 'the way they should be.' I find it easier to believe that the shape-shifting of the frying pan from circular to elliptical and back was an illusion than to believe that Salvador Dali was on to something real.

Oh, I've looked for it, alright. I spent time in seminary looking for miracles. I spent time apprenticed to a "psychic" while looking for paranormal events, I spent time at a university looking for evidence of quantum effects on a macro level. I've observed, interviewed, photographed, measured, experimented, reviewed, and experimented again. Not once has anything occurred that was not caused by either a known natural phenomenon of science (or a reasonable extrapolation thereof) or outright human trickery.

Religion is a lie. Witchcraft is a lie. People - especially evangelicals - lie. Only science has consistently revealed to me what is really going on and what to expect.

Here is a challenge just for you, TimT. Answer these two questions as stated, if you can:

1) Do you believe that the Bible is the complete and inerrant Word of God? (answer 'No' or 'Yes')

2) What is the numerical value 'Pi', defined as the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter? (Answer to at least seven significant figures).

Yeah, I'm very familiar with it. I could probably write a book on the subject. I've had contact with real witches three times. <SNIP!> I blew the demon off the boy and bound the demons on the vampires and told them to come back next week. The next week, the boy and the women came back. When I offered them printed prayers for protection and healing their eyes lit up. Printed incantations they were familiar with! I was laughing up my sleeve because when they started using them, they would be opening themselves up to the Holy Spirit!

Second time was a wicca witch who needed a ride to work. I regularly gave him a ride. He had a wicca shrine in his apartment. I had no fear of him, because I could spiritually handle anything he might put out. We had some interesting conversations. I was not able to introduce him to Christ. His contract finally ended and he went back to Maine.

<SNIP!>The story would be too fantastic for most of you. Suffice to say, we got rid of the ghosts, merged the multiple personalities and got rid of the poltergeist. Her daughter came in from work, saw demons coming out of her mother and started throwing up. When I left I took a large box of idols and books on magic to dispose of.

Hi! WOW, what a topic to intro on...

I'd have liked to snipped in some of the comments made by some of the rest of you in this post, but I'm not certain that this can be done, and I certainly don't know how (yet, if it can).

I'll start out with stating where I am on the fence. I am a Christian, married to a non-Christian. I do not believe that there is anything, ANYTHING supernatural outside of God, because if God created all of nature, then only He can be outside of nature. The rest is just manifestations of natural law that we don't yet understand.

For example, in the Middle Ages, if someone became ill, a physick would be called to bleed them of their ill humours and restore the balance in their bodies. They might also have spirits evicted in order to heal them. People did not yet know about viruses and bacteria. We have learned about a natural phenomenon.

As far as science goes, I am quite comfortable with such things as evolution. Science tells us HOW. Religion tells us WHO. Two completely different questions, one of which cannot be measured scientifically.

Responding to the post I snipped above, I noted one EXTREMELY serious problem with what you said. You said that you did all those things. As a Christian, you really should be giving the credit and the praise to the One who actually did them. We are truly incapable of doing good of ourselves. The one true thing about religion is that it makes us better than we would be otherwise -- if we are really practicing what we preach.

Something interesting I found in wikipedia's autism page:
Quote:
The Table Talk of Martin Luther contains a story of a 12-year-old boy who may have been severely autistic. According to Luther's notetaker Mathesius, Luther thought the boy was a soulless mass of flesh possessed by the devil, and suggested that he be suffocated.

Welcome to WP Judith by the way :P

yeah, suffocated, or drowned. That is what the hillbillies that were my cousins decided should happen to me, because it was obvious I was possessed by devils. They rowed me out to the center of the lake and dropped me over the side to see how I could swim. they wore me out and then rowed away, leaving me to dogpaddle my tired and crying way to the far shore where some campers drove me to the bait shop/gas station where I could call my grandmother. I was eight.

so sure, they were biblically correct.

If you show an electric light to a man a thousand years ago he will call it "magic". There may very well be things discovered a thousand years from now that modern humans can only describe as magic yet to a human in the 31st century these things are firmly grounded in scientific principles.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is majic to those who don't understand it.

I dont give a s**t what any BOOK says[INCLUDING THE BIBLE] or what anyone's religious believes! I knew a Wiccan woman who claimed she could draw down a circle and I tried to arrange for us to meet in a park and have her give me a demonstration-to show that this s**t is actually REAL and she kept deferring my request and effectively backed out of it. If you fools who fall for this expect me to take any of these "strange spritual powers" seriously you must SHOW me IRL what these powers can actually do!! !!

Yes, the mentally ill were considered to be demon-possessed in the time of Luther. Many still consider gays to be demon-possessed today. So much for The Enlightenment.

What happened to your name? :P

That seems to apply to NTs mostly, rather than few misunderstood aspies in real life, although I lack of knowledge of what Karma actually is, in the full and most accurate meaning (Buddism right?) only what it has been popular said.

I am trying out new ways to be, GreenBlue. I was thinking for about the 3 minutes since I didn't sign my name that nothing blew up, nothing spontaneously combusted. . .and then my friend GreenBlue notices and I have to.. . I have toooo. . .

Actually Karma is what you put out is what you get back. Karma is an equal opportunity system, NT, Aspie, Autie, you name it, it still applies.

As an ambassador for Christ I have been given limited power of attorney. Jesus gave us precious & powerful promises that if we fulfill our part, He will fulfill His. The inverse is also true. James said, "ye have not because ye ask not." This is true of all who know His promises. If I were not there and appealed to His promises, nothing good would happen. God honors my prayers for cancer about 50% of the time. But if I am unaware of a need, I can't pray to God for the need. The person has that less chance of survival.

Actually, I gave God the credit earlier and some schmuck attacked me for not being able to do anything myself! :D

Try God's promises. You might be surprised!
