The rules would have to be enforced far more stringently than they presently are, and that would be anathema to lively debate. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't continue trying, and it certainly doesn't mean I'll stop pointing it out every single time someone does it.

What is a Utopian dream? A higher percentage of reasoned debate to tactical obfuscation? People seem to have decided what I want from this thread, even though I mostly keep asking if we can agree to this or that. Of course, you can define what I want so that it is impossible. That succeeds in what, exactly?

Name calling is not the only way to fill a thread with BS, and it is hardly the only topic of my concern.

That was a direct response to CockneyRebel, yet you've elected to take it as being about you.

What you mostly do has been quite accurately described in this thread, but certainly not by you. This is yet another example of such.

More brazen gaslighting.

So your chosen method of "fixing PPR" is to accuse everyone of victimising you when they're addressing someone else's post.

Good luck with that.

If it's a safe space you're after, familiarise yourself with the little cross, typically located at the top right of your browser.

That's ironic coming from you.

Is that based on the false assumption that because I have my doubts that ultra high functioning people are actually autistic, that supposedly means I don't think any of them should post to WP?

I don't mind forum trolls either, and I agree, their antics can be pretty hilarious. However, once a troll starts going out of their way to stalk people and make their lives a living hell, then that's going too far. Smartassery is one thing, outright harassment is another.

The moderators here are pretty good at dealing with that sort of thing. That's what they are there for.

I've seen the gaslighting claim tossed out quite a few times by various individuals. I think those who feel this is being done to them should probably avoid PPR and any type of debate thread elsewhere.

I think it usually stems from them taking up a certain position most others consider invalid or incorrect or incomprehensible, and when they start getting feedback they don't like, they call it gaslighting.

Nope. I don't think you think that.

Otherwise, it will be the Trumpeters against the Clintonettes.....liberal vs conservative.

I learned quite a bit about ancient Asia Minor coins when I first got to WP--through PPR.

There was also some actually great Biblical scholarship exhibited here. Where has all this gone?

I only remember tons of threads constantly attacking Christians and their beliefs. Which seems to mostly stopped with banning of some members.

I don't see any subject in this section able to be civil. It's all about stuff people are super passionate about. L&d is similar. This isn't like the music or tv sections.

Well that whole row with Bird-whoever on that subject and Walrus' assertion that I was trying to gatekeep, is the only instance I'm aware of where some thought I was trying to be in charge and setting the tone.

Do you have other instances or examples I'm not aware of to point out?

I had forgotten about that thread. The tone is influenced by the volume of your posts, but that is the case for everyone and the site is ever-evolving because of such.
Sometimes you post stuff off the top of your head (or so it seems) just to be argumentative, which is not helpful for real discussion.

It's funny how the gaslighters feel like I have an obligation to convince them. It's cute when they act all aggrieved at their bizarre characterization of my intentions. It's absurd when they suggest they have my best interests at heart when they suggest I leave.

I think I'll stick around, demonstrate the effectiveness of what I'm doing, improve at frustrating your agenda, gather momentum as more people begin to resist this effort to make the boards uninhabitable, and win.

Maybe someone can succeed at making a thread to build consensus. It has to be possible, if not now then eventually.

So it seems basically what you're going by is your subjective assumption of how and why I post my opinions.

If you can be gaslighted on a message board you've got issues.
I for one didnt suggest you leave. I'd like you to stay just for the lulz.

I'm still trying to decide if the climate here is worse at the moment than it was during the Zimmerman trial or after the Sandyhook shooting, those were my previous high water marks for forum hostility.

I think it's worse now than at both those previous times.
